    Volume 6 + Chapter 65: Bear One’s Mercenary Group

Balan agreed to Xia Yi’s request.

For a bard, there were two things of paramount importance.

    Namely, music and stories.

In terms of music, Balan had already achieved a certain level of mastery. But when it came to stories… the more novel and interesting, the better.

Take the dragon stories circulating on this land, for example. As far as he knew, most of them were fabricated, with very little authenticity.

They were largely processed from the outside world’s stereotypical impressions of the dragon race in that mysterious kingdom, entirely speculative.

Therefore, the opportunity to hear dragons themselves recount the stories that took place within the Dragon Kingdom was far too tempting.

    He could not refuse it.

“Then it’s settled, Balan. You will lead the way for us into the Elven Kingdom,” Xia Yi said. “Later, I will tell you some stories about the history of the dragons.”

    “No problem.” Balan nodded.

    “…And what about me?”

Bear One, standing nearby, voiced his confusion.

“I’m sorry, mercenary sir, but I have already agreed to guide this young lady of the dragon race. If you wish to enter the Elven Kingdom with us, you will need to seek her consent first,” Balan said to Bear One.

Thus, the tables had turned. If Bear One wanted to complete his mercenary group’s mission, he would have to rely on Xia Yi’s goodwill.

    “This…!”

Bear One’s face looked as awful as if he had swallowed a fly.

“Bear One, I heard that you also want to go to the Elven Kingdom, is that right?” Atiya looked at Bear One.

“My name is not Bear One!” Bear One corrected with a red face. “My name is…”

“You are Bear One, not anyone else!”

    “I…!”

Bear One looked as if he wanted to explode, but could only hold it in and reluctantly accept the nickname.

“You two esteemed dragons, would you be willing to take our mercenary group along to the Elven Kingdom? This mission is extremely critical for us. If we succeed, our adventurer group’s rank will be promoted!”

“Oh, so it’s a promotion match. No wonder.” Atiya chuckled.

    “May I ask if it’s possible, ”

“Bear One, aren’t you going to apologize to Milady for your rudeness yesterday?” Atiya asked.

    “I… was rude?”

“What do you think? You were about to bite someone.”

Bear One clenched his fists, lowered his head, and squeezed out his voice as if through clenched teeth. “I’m sorry, young lady…”

“Why so quiet? Are you even a mercenary? I can’t hear you! Not at all!”

    “I am sorry!”

“And your attitude? Who apologizes while standing??”

    “I am truly, deeply sorry!”

Bear One brought his hands together at his sides, stood at attention, and bowed deeply to Xia Yi, reaching a perfect right angle of ninety degrees.

This was the ultimate apology method he had learned from a certain country while carrying out missions.

“Milady, what do you think?” Atiya looked at Xia Yi.

“Let Bear One’s mercenary group accompany us to the Elven Kingdom,” Xia Yi replied.

“Hmm?” Atiya was somewhat surprised. “Are you sure?”

    “There’s no problem.”

Truth be told, Xia Yi did not really mind either way.

It was not that she was overflowing with kindness. If the mercenary group entered the Elven Kingdom with her, their larger numbers meant that if any unexpected situation arose, the mercenaries could report it promptly, allowing her to prepare a response.

“Very well, since Milady has said so. Bear One, you are truly lucky!” Atiya patted Bear One on the shoulder.

“Yes, yes. Thank you very much.”

Bear One breathed a sigh of relief, finally at ease. His mercenary group’s promotion was now within reach.

    … …

Bear One left the tavern first. He went to assemble his mercenary companions and prepare outside Sanger Town.

Xia Yi and Atiya tried visiting several more shops, hoping to buy some consumables they might need on the road.

Unfortunately, the other races were still too afraid of dragons. No one dared to do business with Xia Yi.

With no other choice, she and Atiya went outside Sanger Town to meet up with the mercenary group.

Balan had arrived one step ahead of them and was already waiting.

Bear One’s mercenary group numbered about thirty people, mostly bear-men, strong, sturdy fellows.

“Captain, have you found a good guide?”

A dwarf dressed as a merchant asked Bear One.

“Yes. This is Mr. Balan, a bard from the Elven Kingdom. He is willing to guide our mercenary group,” Bear One introduced Balan to the dwarf merchant.

“Wonderful, wonderful! We’ve finally found an elven guide. I need to deliver these goods to the Elven Kingdom quickly and meet my trading partner. If they rot in my hands, my capital chain will be broken!!”

The dwarf merchant turned his head, spotted Xia Yi, and jumped in fright.

“Good heavens!! Why are there dragons?! Mercenary group, qu-quickly protect me!!”

“Don’t be nervous. These two dragons are our companions on the journey. They will not attack us,” Bear One explained.

“Are you mad? Taking evil dragons as companions!”

    “No, it’s like this…”

Bear One spent a great deal of effort explaining things to the dwarf merchant, who accepted the situation with half-belief.

“Damn it. If I weren’t in such a hurry, I would never agree to travel with evil dragons!”

Bear One found it quite headache-inducing, but at least it was settled. He walked over to Xia Yi and Atiya.

“You two, preparations are complete. We can set off anytime.”

“Bear One, is this your mercenary group?” Atiya asked.

“Yes. That is the vice-captain, my younger brother. He and I founded the mercenary group together.” Bear One pointed at a bear-man who was loading cargo.

“Oh, so that’s Bear Two,” Atiya understood.

    “Bear Two?!”

“Bear One, is your mercenary group named…”

“Since our mercenary group is all bear-men, we are called ‘Bear Dominates the World’! Our goal is to become the strongest mercenary group on this land!”

Bear One quickly interrupted Atiya’s remark and immediately introduced his mercenary group’s name, lest they be saddled with another ridiculous nickname.

“You two, due to our employer’s strong objection, he cannot accept sharing a carriage with you, we will arrange a separate horse-drawn carriage for you.”

“Arrange for Milady Xia Yi and me to be together,” Balan requested.

    “Alright.” Bear One acknowledged.

Just as he was about to instruct his subordinates, the vice-captain of the Bear Dominates the World mercenary group suddenly ran up to him with a terrified expression.

“Big brother, this is bad. Terribly bad!”

Bear One frowned. “What is it? Why all the panic?”

“Just now, someone reported to me that something absolutely horrifying is happening!!”

Next, Bear Two uttered a statement that sent chills down everyone’s spines.

“Daleks, the Storm King, is leading his undead legion toward Sanger Town!!”
