Volume 6 Chapter 91
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 91: The Righteous Man
BOOM!
With a thunderous explosion, the Old Times Wine Cafe collapsed, while the incriminating evidence of its unspeakable dealings scattered through the sky like a storm of paper for everyone on the street to see.
The entire scene descended into chaos. Even the Public Security Patrol was on the verge of losing control of the situation.
More and more people gathered to watch, until the entire street became packed beyond movement.
“Heh heh.”
The true culprit behind blowing up the Old Times Wine Cafe was currently blending into the confusion of the crowd.
Xia Yi looked at the collapsing building and revealed a smug smile.
“Alright then. Tonight was fun enough.”
Satisfied, she turned around, melted into the crowd, and disappeared without a trace.
…
…
“Looks like it’s gotten pretty late.”
Xia Yi returned to Qiu’s dessert shop. She glanced at the clock hanging on the wall and realized it was already midnight.
Qiu had already gone to sleep.
Lowering her footsteps, Xia Yi quietly returned to her room. She took off her shoes, changed into slippers, then pulled something from her pocket and slapped it onto the table.
It was one of the spoils she had brought back, a handgun.
When Xia Yi withdrew from the Old Times Wine Cafe, she had deliberately taken one pistol with her, intending to study it carefully and satisfy her curiosity.
“Let me see just how the weapons of this era differ from those of my own age in terms of structure and design.”
Unable to contain her excitement, Xia Yi immediately sat down and began disassembling the firearm.
“So that’s how the inside is structured!”
“So this is how they inject magic power into the gun itself to enhance the bullets’ destructive force… Ingenious. Truly ingenious.”
“This bullet could probably be improved even further. What would happen if magical runes were engraved directly onto the ammunition?”
She immersed herself enthusiastically in researching the gun she had brought back, to the point that she completely lost track of time.
…
…
“Ahh~ haaah~”
The next morning, now dressed in a maid outfit, Xia Yi leaned on a broom with an exhausted expression and let out a huge yawn.
She regretted it.
After coming back last night, she really should have gone straight to bed instead of studying the gun.
She had become so absorbed in it that she ended up staying awake the entire night.
By the time she snapped out of it, dawn had already arrived and with it, working hours.
“Ugh… I’m so sleepy…”
“Xia Yi, no sleeping during work hours,” Qiu reminded her. “There’ll be lots of customers today. What’s coming next is a battlefield without smoke, so you can’t slack off!”
“Yeees~”
Xia Yi forced herself to perk up and answered weakly.
“Xia Yi, where exactly did you go fooling around last night?” Qiu asked curiously. “Before I went to sleep, you still hadn’t come back.”
“I… didn’t really go anywhere. I just wandered around Molent City for a while. Hahaha… I even got lost and spent quite a bit of time finding my way back.”
“Honestly, you really do love playing around,” Qiu sighed. “You didn’t run into any bad people, did you?”
“…No.” Xia Yi shifted her gaze away.
“Looks like you got lucky. Do you know what happened in Molent last night? It was an absolutely huge incident!”
“What happened?”
“The Old Times Wine Cafe got blown up,” Qiu explained to Xia Yi. “Just last night, the tavern was attacked by an unidentified individual. Right in front of countless witnesses, the entire Old Times Wine Cafe was blasted flat. That ridiculously luxurious building was completely destroyed.”
“The Old Times Wine Cafe?” Xia Yi continued pretending ignorance. “Was it some kind of bar?”
“Yeah. It was the most famous tavern in Molent City. Everyone’s talking about it now, it’s already the number one trending topic in the city. But the explosion itself isn’t even the craziest part. The craziest part is that during the blast, transaction records from the tavern were scattered all over the streets. Every single record involved filthy crimes like human trafficking, organ trading… Every transaction was horrifying to read. It sent chills down people’s spines.”
“So all of that was done by the tavern’s owner?”
“Mm. Most likely. The owner was named Lao Huo, and he had a business partner named Bi Yangde. Apparently, there were even powerful figures backing them behind the scenes. They used the Old Times Wine Cafe as cover for these disgusting operations for a very long time…”
Qiu paused briefly.
“Once the scandal broke out, public outrage exploded beyond control. The Public Security Patrol pulled both Bi Yangde and Lao Huo out of the collapsed ruins, but they were severely injured in the explosion. It looks like they won’t be waking up anytime soon. And now that the evidence is overwhelming, they can’t deny anything. Even if they’re unconscious in hospital beds, they still won’t escape judgment. To calm public anger, they might even be executed before they ever wake up.”
“Oh…”
On the surface, Xia Yi acted like she was just listening to gossip, but inside she was desperately suppressing laughter.
However, Qiu’s next sentence instantly froze the smile on her face.
“Someone apparently witnessed who destroyed the Old Times Wine Cafe. It’s already in the newspapers.”
“Huh?!”
Xia Yi jumped in shock, dropping the broom from her hands.
Wait, that shouldn’t be possible. She had deliberately avoided being seen when she left. Nobody should have noticed her at all.
“Mm? Xia Yi, why are you so nervous?”
“I-I’m not nervous, I’m… excited!” Xia Yi hurriedly explained. “I want to know what kind of person would dare fight against scum like that!”
“Here, see for yourself.”
Qiu placed several newspapers in front of Xia Yi.
These were all different newspapers published that morning, and every one of them covered the Old Times Wine Cafe incident. Yet strangely, each paper described the hero who destroyed the tavern completely differently.
One newspaper claimed the hero wore a black skintight suit and cape, possessed a massive muscular build, and could punch through steel plates with a single blow.
Another described the hero as wielding twin swords of ice and fire capable of severing all evil.
Yet another claimed the hero came and went without a trace, moving freely throughout the city like the nemesis of all crime…
Virtually every newspaper painted an entirely different image.
“…Phew.”
Xia Yi let out a long sigh of relief. It was probably just the media inventing heroic personas for attention and circulation.
Still, the newspapers had collectively given this fictional figure a vivid title…
The Righteous Man!
In other words, the Man of Justice, the hero everyone imagined in their hearts.
“Xia Yi, what do you think?” Qiu asked.
“Maybe… it was all just an accident…”
…
…
Inside the Lord’s Tower of Molent City.
The Lord of Molent sat in his seat, flipping through the newspapers before him while reading the reports about the Righteous Man.
Standing before him was the Commander of the Public Security Patrol, bowing deeply as he apologized.
“My sincerest apologies, Lord City Lord. Such an incident occurring within the Molent City under your governance…”
