Volume 5 Chapter 149
by Need_More_SleepVolume 5 + Chapter 149: A Heavy Burden And A Long Road Ahead
Xia Yi leapt lightly onto Elly’s back.
Members of the Dragon Clan delegation released their true forms, transforming into colossal dragons as they departed from the capital of Fox Hill.
They soared into the sky, heading toward the borders of Fox Hill.
By now, it was common knowledge that the Dragon Clan had become allies of the fox clan. Coupled with Xia Yi earning the recognition of the Red Fox Deity and aiding Yue Liu in restoring her nation, her influence within Fox Hill had grown significantly. Ordinary foxfolk no longer feared or rejected dragons as they once had.
Thus, the Dragon Clan no longer needed to exercise the same caution as when they first arrived. Even flying openly in their true forms no longer caused panic, if anything, it stirred excitement.
“My destined rival…”
Yue Liu gazed wistfully at the dragons receding into the distance, lost in thought.
Memories of everything that had happened during this time flashed through her mind, leaving her filled with emotion.
“The Silver Dragon Princess has already left.”
A familiar voice sounded beside her.
She turned and saw her father.
“Father?”
“Yes.”
The retired former Nine-Tailed Fox Emperor, Yue Yin, nodded in response.
“That Silver Dragon Princess is truly remarkable. I can clearly feel that she is different from other dragons.”
“Father, are you praising my destined rival?”
“Yes. I believe she is exceptional, both in her current abilities and her future potential, she is beyond reproach,” Yue Yin said, before changing the subject. “Yue Liu, I think the two of you are very well suited.”
“Suited? Father, what are you talking about?!” Yue Liu panicked, her gaze darting away.
“The Silver Dragon Princess is still single, isn’t she? This is an excellent opportunity. If you wait until others make their move, it will be too late… In fact, she’s probably already being targeted, by the Vampire Queen, for example,” Yue Yin advised. “Yue Liu, it’s time to take the initiative. Don’t let her be taken by a rival.”
“Father, I don’t understand what you’re saying…!”
Yue Liu grew flustered. Though she denied it verbally, her ears had already softened in embarrassment.
“There must be some misunderstanding, but I still have work to do, so I’ll take my leave. Later… when I have time, I’ll explain!”
With that, she fled as if escaping.
Watching his daughter’s reaction, Yue Yin sighed helplessly.
Only recently had he realized that he had misunderstood Yue Liu all along, he had thought she viewed the Silver Dragon Princess as a rival, when in fact, it might have been the opposite.
“A Nine-Tailed Fox, master of illusions and unrivaled beauty, yet she is the one who has been captivated… Yue Liu, the path of love will be a long and arduous one for you.”
…
…
Standing atop the back of a green dragon, Xia Yi looked down upon the beautiful landscapes of Fox Hill.
She did not know when she would next return after leaving this place.
“Your Highness, are we heading home?” Elly asked.
“Yes, Elly. We’ve exceeded our original mission objectives. Our goal has been achieved, it’s time to return to the Dragon Kingdom,” Xia Yi replied.
“Yay!!”
Elly was overjoyed.
“We’ve been away from the Dragon Palace for quite a long time, and recently we’ve been constantly at war.”
“Elly, in that case, I’ll have Lucia grant you some leave when we return. You should take a proper rest.”
“Really? That would be…”
Elly brightened instantly, but suddenly realized something and changed her words.
“No, Your Highness! Please don’t give me leave, I want to keep working! To become an official member of the Royal Maid Corps, I must work hard and cannot slack off!”
“What does taking leave have to do with that?”
“It does, very much so! For the sake of becoming official, I’m willing to give up all my vacation time!” Elly insisted firmly.
“So determined?”
Xia Yi was genuinely astonished by Elly’s level of dedication.
So she cared this much about becoming an official member of the Royal Maid Corps…
The little princess stroked her chin thoughtfully, an idea forming in her mind.
“Your Highness, congratulations! When Her Majesty learns of your achievements, she will surely praise you endlessly!”
Karami’s voice interrupted Xia Yi’s thoughts.
“Without paying a heavy price, you’ve secured the fox clan’s willing alliance with us. This is entirely your merit! Not only Her Majesty, but the entire Dragon Palace will be proud of you, you’ve broken the long-standing stalemate of our Dragon Clan!”
“Is that so…?”
Xia Yi considered it carefully.
This was something even Xia Lulu had not accomplished, yet she had succeeded. Wouldn’t that mean her prestige would rise dramatically?
That truly was wonderful news.
She could finally shed her image as a mere mascot of the Dragon Palace and become a dignified, authoritative Dragon Princess!
“Does this mean everything that happened today was within Your Highness’s expectations?” Elly exclaimed. “You calculated all of this?”
“Of course. Who but Her Highness could persuade foreign races to ally with us, and not just one? In the future, even more powerful nations will be drawn into the Central Alliance by her,” Karami said, his tone filled with admiration.
Hehe~~
Hearing such praise, Xia Yi felt as though she might float away.
But no, she had to maintain her composure.
Say less. Act like a master.
“Elly, watch carefully and learn well.”
The silver-haired girl spoke in an unfathomable tone, as though she held the workings of the world in her grasp, completely dazzling Elly.
“Your Highness, you are the person I admire most!” Elly said excitedly.
“After all, Your Highness achieved every goal perfectly through precise control and meticulous planning,” Karami added in agreement.
Achieved every goal…?
At that mention, Xia Yi suddenly realized something important she had forgotten.
…Ah!!
It hit her at once, and she felt immediate regret.
She had forgotten to have the little fox implement the Osmanthus Cake Policy in Fox Hill.
She had indeed considered it before.
She lacked the authority to enforce it in the Dragon Kingdom, but Fox Hill was different. Xia Lulu had no jurisdiction there.
She should have asked the little fox to test the policy in Fox Hill for future promotion…
What a pity.
The little princess sighed inwardly.
But it was fine, once she returned, she could write a letter and have the little fox implement it in Fox Hill.
