Volume 6 Chapter 113
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 113: Eternal Slumber
“Fireball!”
“Fireball!”
“Fireball!”
Xia Yi raised the Rose Staff and continuously cast Fireball.
Although Fireball was considered an entry-level spell for mages, as an offensive spell, it was extraordinarily practical.
It converted the caster’s mana into pure destructive force with maximum efficiency.
Especially because Xia Yi possessed the talent Chant Restraint, what she unleashed was no longer merely fireballs, it was practically a fire-element magical machine gun.
The silver dragon loli stood atop a high vantage point, bombarding the Calamity Beasts below with relentless explosions. Scorching flames erupted amidst the horde, surging infernos swallowing the monsters whole.
“Icicle Rain!”
Quite a few Calamity Beasts had already been blasted immobile by Xia Yi’s Fireballs. Seizing the opportunity, she summoned countless ice crystals, condensing them into sharp spikes that rained down from the sky.
The beasts’ outer shells had already been weakened by the relentless scorching flames and were close to collapsing. Under the assault of ice-element magic, the sudden and violent temperature shift made them even more brittle, allowing the icy spikes to pierce straight through their internal cores.
And just like that, facing the swarming Calamity Beasts, Xia Yi relied on her own skill and control to annihilate the raging monsters.
“What a pain… Their defense is way tougher than magical beasts. I have to bombard them with multiple waves of spells.”
Xia Yi sighed, then looked up toward the sky.
“Earlier, a golden star fell from the heavens. The landing point seemed to be the armory… Nothing bad happened there, right?”
A bad feeling rose within her heart.
Not long ago, she had seen a golden star descend into Molent City, its brilliant radiance sweeping across every corner of the city.
She had seen something like this once before.
When the witch Saphia, who had led the Calamity Legion against Laurel Tree Academy, was captured and about to be judged, she transformed into a monstrous mountain of flesh and went berserk, intending to slaughter everyone.
At the critical moment, a golden meteor descended, and Tia appeared wielding the Holy Lance, stopping the flesh monstrosity’s rampage.
The situation back then was far too similar to what had just happened.
“I need to get to the armory quickly.”
Holding the Rose Staff tightly, Xia Yi hurried toward the armory.
“I wonder if Lian Lian and her father managed to reach the armory. The Public Security Patrol should help them, right?”
Deep down, she still hoped she could meet that father and daughter pair again.
After all, she had already promised Lian Lian.
“Grrraaahhh!!”
Another Calamity Beast suddenly rushed out from a dark corner and lunged at Xia Yi.
Fortunately, her reactions were incredibly fast. While dodging the ambush, she swung the Rose Staff and smashed the beast flying away.
After crashing to the ground, the Calamity Beast let out a series of strange howls, seemingly calling for reinforcements.
Within the darkness of the street, several more pairs of hostile eyes lit up.
“I’m seriously getting fed up with this. These things just never end!”
Xia Yi felt deeply troubled.
There were simply too many Calamity Beasts.
They were practically like cockroaches, killing one group, and another group would hear the commotion and swarm over. The sheer annoyance alone was enough to drive someone mad.
Was there any way to…
Oh, right!
Suddenly, Xia Yi remembered that she had done something similar once back at Laurel Tree Academy.
“Answer my summons…”
Xia Yi placed her hand on the ground, releasing a summoning magic circle. She rapidly chanted the summoning incantation and activated summoning magic.
“Come forth, Black Knight!”
A black-armored knight stepped out from the summoning circle and appeared before her.
“Black Knight!” Xia Yi called out to him. “Can you help me? I’ve run into some trouble.”
“……”
Hearing her words, the Black Knight glanced around at the surroundings. Upon seeing the Calamity Beasts, he seemed to instantly understand what Xia Yi wanted him to do.
“GRAAAAAHHHH!!”
The Black Knight unleashed a beast-like war cry, leapt into the air, and clenched the void with one hand, grasping a pitch-black greatsword before slamming it into the ground.
The mountain-shattering black sword aura tore apart streets and buildings alike. Aside from Xia Yi herself, the erupting crimson lightning ripped apart every living creature still capable of movement.
This savage style of combat… these utterly reckless methods of attack…
He looked even more monstrous than the Calamity Beasts themselves.
“Black Knight, you… mm, never mind. As long as you’re happy.”
Xia Yi was already beginning to get used to the Black Knight’s personality.
Still, this worked out well enough. The chaos caused by the Black Knight was obviously far greater than anything she could create herself, meaning he could attract even more Calamity Beasts.
“Black Knight, in a moment, head over in that direction and lure the Calamity Beasts away there, alright?”
Xia Yi pointed toward the exact opposite direction of the armory.
The Black Knight turned back and glanced at Xia Yi. One moment earlier he had looked utterly deranged, yet the next moment he was able to communicate with her normally.
The Black Knight nodded, indicating he understood the assignment.
“Thank you so much, Black Knight!”
Xia Yi was delighted.
Even if the Black Knight was undeniably strange, he was still an exceptionally reliable companion.
Although he always looked like he was on the verge of losing control, in reality he had helped her countless times.
“WOOOOOOOAAARRRGHHH!!”
The Black Knight grabbed a Calamity Beast that had not yet fully died, leapt onto the rooftop of a tall building, and moved off into the distance.
The unfortunate beast being tortured in his grasp let out agonized screams, like a living loudspeaker, attracting all nearby Calamity Beasts toward him and successfully drawing away a massive portion of the horde.
……
……
“How… did this place end up like this?”
Xia Yi frowned at the scene before her.
She was close to the armory marked on the map.
This place should have been the Public Security Patrol’s final defensive line, guarded by heavily armed personnel resisting the Calamity Beasts…
Yet she saw none of that.
What she saw instead were crashed helicopter wrecks scattered across the ground, dead patrol members, and corpses piled everywhere.
At first, Xia Yi assumed the patrol’s defensive line had collapsed under the Calamity Beasts’ assault.
But as she ventured deeper, she realized the number of Calamity Beast corpses was increasing as well.
This no longer resembled a battle.
It looked like a one-sided massacre.
Who did this?
What kind of existence possessed such terrifying power?
Did Molent City truly have someone like this?
Countless questions swirled within Xia Yi’s mind.
“I’m finally here.”
Xia Yi crossed through the collapsed walls and reached the armory.
But the instant she saw the scene inside, her eyes widened in shock.
There stood a golden-armored swordsman holding a bloodstained weapon.
Before him lay two corpses, Lian Lian and her father.
The father and daughter rested within a pool of crimson blood, fallen into eternal slumber, never able to wait for Xia Yi’s arrival.
