Volume 6 Chapter 81
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 81: Explosive Popularity
Xia Yi found herself utterly unable to accept what was happening.
Something was wrong. Stories about transmigration were never supposed to work like this. In the manga she usually read, crossing into another world always required some kind of special trigger.
For example, someone would be walking down the street when a speeding truck suddenly slammed into them. After being flattened, they would awaken in an entirely new world and begin a grand new adventure.
Or perhaps they would stumble upon some bizarre and mysterious artifact that activated the conditions for transmigration.
But Xia Yi had merely passed through a dense fog, following the elven bard Balan into the Elven Kingdom. Nothing strange had happened along the way, and yet she had somehow traveled back to the Mythic Age?
Spatial magic alone was already notoriously difficult to master, let alone time magic that surpassed it. Could something like that truly exist…?
No matter how she thought about it, none of this made sense!
Clutching her head, Xia Yi felt as though her brain was about to explode.
“Xia Yi, what’s wrong with you exactly? You’ve been acting strange ever since earlier,” Qiu asked in confusion. “If you’re having trouble with something, you can talk to me about it.”
“It’s… it’s nothing. I was just thinking about how I got separated from my companions, so I’ve been feeling a little down…”
Xia Yi casually came up with an excuse to brush it off.
After all, she had only just met Qiu. There was no need to reveal too much about herself yet. The other girl might not even believe her, and if word spread, it could easily bring unnecessary trouble.
Besides, whether she had truly traveled through time was still uncertain.
“Well, I can understand how you feel, Xia Yi. Don’t worry, your companions will definitely find you eventually. For now, just stay here at the pastry shop as my cousin from the countryside and work here peacefully. That way, it’ll also be easier for your companions to locate you.”
Qiu patted Xia Yi on the shoulder encouragingly.
“Don’t be so depressed. Cheer up!”
“Mm…”
Xia Yi nodded softly.
For the moment, this was the only thing she could do, stay temporarily at Qiu’s pastry shop, gather information, observe the situation, and decide what to do afterward.
Qiu had even given her the identity of a relative, which would make things far more convenient moving forward.
…
On the second floor of the pastry shop, Qiu cleaned out a small single room for Xia Yi to stay in temporarily.
And so, carrying a heart full of complicated emotions, Xia Yi fell asleep.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the windowsill into the room. Through her lingering drowsiness, accompanied by the sound of a door opening, Xia Yi vaguely heard someone enter.
She sat up and rubbed her eyes, spotting a blurry silhouette.
“Sister Qiu?”
“Mm, it’s me,” Qiu replied. “I was originally planning to wake you up, but you actually woke up beforehand. What a pity.”
“What kind of method was Sister Qiu planning to use to wake me up?” Xia Yi asked curiously.
“Maybe squeezing Xia Yi’s big fluffy tail a little…”
The moment Xia Yi heard that, she jolted upright in fright, instantly wide awake. Hugging her silver tail protectively, she exclaimed,
“No way! You’re not allowed to touch my tail!”
“Mhm, as long as Xia Yi doesn’t oversleep and goes to work on time every day, I won’t touch your tail.”
“Every day… I have to wake up on time!?”
Only then did Xia Yi truly realize the gravity of the situation.
This was bad. If she was going to become a working person now, didn’t that mean she could no longer sleep in every day?
Wuuuuu, she didn’t want that kind of life!!
“Work. Work. Work!”
Like a death sentence being repeatedly chanted beside her ear, Qiu mercilessly repeated those two words.
“I regret this already!” Xia Yi cried out.
“Too late for regrets! Go to work!!”
…
“Welcome to the pastry shop, dear customer. May I help you with anything?”
Xia Yi opened the pastry shop’s glass door and displayed a perfectly professional smile toward the fox tribe customer entering the store.
“Hm? A maid? Did I come to the wrong place?”
The fox customer stepped back and glanced up at the sign outside.
“You’re in the right place, dear customer. I’m the new maid working at the pastry shop. Please take care of me~” Xia Yi explained.
“Oh, I see.”
The fox customer walked inside and greeted Qiu.
“Boss lady, are you planning to turn this into a maid pastry shop?”
“We are considering it. Recently I’ve been thinking about following the latest trends. Maid-themed places are pretty popular nowadays, aren’t they? Maid cafés, maid restaurants, and so on…” Qiu explained.
“Then why aren’t you wearing a maid outfit, boss lady?”
“This is still the trial operation phase for the maid pastry shop. If it proves successful, we’ll officially start maid service later. I’ll wear one then.”
“Hm… We’ve got to find a way to make the boss lady wear a maid outfit too, otherwise it’d be such a waste,” the fox customer muttered thoughtfully.
“Dear customer, what would you like to order?” Xia Yi walked over and asked politely.
“One hot milk and a small cake. I’ll take them to go for breakfast.”
“Certainly! Sister Qiu, one hot milk and one small cake, packed to go~”
Xia Yi wrote down the order and handed the ticket to Qiu.
Qiu quickly prepared everything and passed it to the fox customer.
After paying, the fox customer left.
“Please come again next time~” Xia Yi waved goodbye cheerfully.
Throughout the morning, several more customers gradually came in. According to Qiu, this was the normal amount of business for a working day.
But after noon, something began to feel very wrong. More and more customers started arriving.
“I heard there’s an adorable silver dragon maid here?”
“It’s true! It’s really a silver dragon, so rare!”
“Can I take a picture with you, Miss New Maid?”
The pastry shop quickly became packed to the brim. Xia Yi alone was scrambling in every direction, completely overwhelmed by the sudden flood of customers.
“What’s going on? Why are so many people coming here?”
Qiu was equally puzzled, so she asked a few customers and finally learned the reason.
It turned out that the fox customer from the morning had spread the news after leaving, telling everyone around him that a cute silver dragon maid had appeared at the pastry shop. Driven by curiosity, his friends came to check for themselves and discovered it was true.
And so the rumors spread from one person to ten, then from ten to a hundred…
By the afternoon, crowds of people from all kinds of races, both men and women, had flocked to the pastry shop after hearing about it, causing the shop’s popularity to explode.
“Oh ho ho, Xia Yi is about to become my little money tree~” Qiu laughed happily as she looked at the packed shop.
“Miss Maid, please give me a smile!”
“Miss Maid, could you scold me a little?”
“Miss Maid, can I be your dog?”
The customers’ requests became increasingly outrageous. Xia Yi had never seen anything like this before, and she was almost stunned senseless.
She suddenly felt that being a maid was far from a simple job. Perhaps she had underestimated it in the beginning. This was practically harder than charging onto a battlefield!
“Everyone, please calm down a little…”
Just as Xia Yi was preparing to properly communicate with the customers, she happened to glance toward the entrance.
The moment she saw someone she recognized walk into the pastry shop, the silver dragon girl’s expression changed drastically.
