Volume 6 Chapter 110
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 110: The Golden Meteor
“Lord Governor, this is bad! The helicopters are starting to crash!!”
“Crash?”
Kennedy simply couldn’t believe it.
As long as there was no pilot error, the Calamity Beasts on the ground should never have been able to attack helicopters flying in midair.
“There’s no reason for them to crash!”
“Switch the live feed to my screen immediately! Let me see what’s happening!” Kennedy shouted into the communicator.
“Yes, sir!!”
His subordinate redirected the footage onto Kennedy’s monitor.
Outside the armory, a burning helicopter lay wrecked amidst the Calamity Beasts.
Within the flames, wounded members of the Public Security Patrol crawled out screaming in agony.
But in front of that mass of monsters, the helicopter crew were nothing more than meat on a platter.
The beasts swarmed forward and tore them apart into bloody fragments.
“It really crashed?! Was it pilot error?” Kennedy muttered in disbelief.
“No, Lord Governor! There was no pilot error, they were attacked!” his subordinate reported frantically through the communicator.
“Attacked? Attacked by what?! From where?! Who attacked them?! Speak!!”
“It came from the sky… AAAAAAAHHH!!”
Before the person on the other end could finish speaking, a scream erupted through the communicator.
Mixed within it were howling winds and the coarse, filthy breathing of Calamity Beasts.
“What happened?! What the hell is happening out there?! Answer me!!”
“……”
The transmission cut out.
Only static remained.
Kennedy immediately turned his gaze back toward the live footage, trying to determine what exactly was happening outside.
The camera suddenly shifted, and a dark shadow came screaming toward it.
The feed instantly cuts to black.
“Lord Governor, this is bad! Many of the forces resisting the monsters outside are gradually losing contact!!”
Charlie urgently rushed over to report the latest situation.
“Our casualties are catastrophic!”
“We have helicopter Vulcan cannon support! The Public Security Patrol is equipped with elite weapons! There’s no way we should be losing to monsters!!”
Kennedy’s emotions began spiraling out of control.
He strode forward and grabbed Charlie by the collar.
“You’d better not be joking with me right now!!”
“It’s true, Lord Governor! Everything I’m saying is true! The casualty numbers are skyrocketing!!”
“DAMN IT!!”
Kennedy cursed furiously and threw Charlie onto the desk.
Only now did he realize the situation was truly slipping beyond his control.
Everything was diverging from his expectations.
“I’m going outside personally.”
“Lord Governor, you should remain inside the armory’s central district! It’s too dangerous out there! You’re the ruler of the city, our supreme commander! If something happens to you, everything will be over!”
Charlie tried to grab Kennedy’s arm and stop him from acting recklessly.
“Shut up!”
Kennedy kicked Charlie aside, grabbed his weapon, and stormed out of the command room.
He refused to believe it.
What kind of thing could possibly reduce all his carefully prepared disaster plans to nothing?
The elven city lord had only just stepped outside the armory’s central sector, when he froze in shock.
Right before his eyes, a helicopter lost control in midair, spiraled violently, and crashed into the ground in a fiery explosion.
The blaze illuminated the monsters filling the night sky.
Countless winged Calamity Beasts circled through the air, hunting for targets.
“Why can those things FLY?!”
Kennedy could hardly believe what he was seeing.
In the past, Calamity Beasts had indeed appeared many times throughout Molent City.
But never, not once, had any possessed the ability to fly.
Every previous beast had been ground-based.
And because of that, none of his disaster preparations had ever taken aerial threats into account.
The beasts possessed overwhelming physical strength and terrifying speed.
Their inability to fly had been their sole weakness.
And using that weakness, helicopters equipped with Vulcan cannons had always been able to suppress them from the sky.
But this mutation… had produced flying Calamity Beasts.
Only now did he finally understand why the Public Security Patrol had become incapable of resisting them.
These horrifying monsters no longer possessed any weakness at all.
“It’s over…”
Kennedy’s face turned pale as paper, his lips trembling.
“It’s all over.”
……
……
The winged Calamity Beasts hunted in coordinated packs, surrounding helicopters at terrifying speeds.
“You monsters, JUST DIE!!”
After witnessing his comrades die, one helicopter gunner completely lost his sanity and sprayed bullets wildly at the flying beasts.
But the monsters dodged every shot with agile movements.
They attacked in organized formations from every direction, using their powerful hind legs to slam themselves against the helicopter.
Again and again they rammed it,
until the aircraft lost balance and crashed to the ground.
The final helicopter had fallen.
And with that, the ground forces completely lost all aerial support.
The Calamity Beasts surged forward like an endless tide, overwhelming the Public Security Patrol with sheer numbers.
They no longer possessed the strength to resist the monsters’ assault.
The defensive line around the armory completely collapsed.
The crazed beasts stormed into the armory itself, slaughtering reserve personnel while smashing weapons apart and extinguishing the last sparks of hope.
Boundless despair descended upon everyone.
They had completely lost hope.
Without aerial support, there was no possibility of survival against the Calamity Beasts.
“Ah… ahh… AAAAHHH!!”
One patrol member threw away his weapon, collapsed to his knees, clutched his head, and abandoned all resistance.
The people around him were dying one after another.
He could hear the monsters tearing bodies apart.
Biting heads clean off.
“Somebody save us… please save us!!”
He lowered his head and waited for death.
Yet strangely, death never came.
Instead, the ground became covered in a layer of golden light.
“This is…?”
The patrol member slowly raised his head and looked toward the sky in stunned disbelief.
Perhaps heaven had truly heard his cries.
From the distant horizon, a golden meteor streaked across the heavens above Molent City.
Its dazzling radiance resembled a golden sun burning within the darkness of night, illuminating the disaster-stricken city below.
The golden meteor descended before the armory.
Its impact shook the earth violently.
Then, from within the golden light emerged a swordsman clad entirely in golden armor.
His arrival resembled a divine savior descending from myth itself.
“GRAAAAAAHHHH!!”
The Calamity Beasts shrieked at the golden armored swordsman with overwhelming hostility.
“Could it be…?! Did the gods hear our voices and send down a savior?!”
A patrol member revealed a heartfelt smile for the first time.
Inside the armory, the surviving people burst into tears of joy upon witnessing the scene.
“We’re saved!!”
“A hero, it’s a hero who came to save us!!”
“We’re not going to die here!!”
The crowd erupted into cheers.
“……”
Under the gaze of countless eyes, the golden armored swordsman slowly raised his hand.
Once it reached its highest point, he swung it downward.
A golden storm erupted forward.
The raging torrent of sword energy devoured everything mercilessly.
The Calamity Beasts on the ground.
The beasts in the sky.
The living.
The wounded.
The dead.
All were annihilated indiscriminately within the dazzling golden radiance.
“Target area reached. Commencing cleansing operation.”
