Volume 6 Chapter 129
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 129 Internal Strife Among The Envoys?
“It is by the Queen’s grace that we were made the three great Envoys. I am the Dragon Envoy, and you are the Human Envoy.”
The Dragon Envoy pointed first at Xia Yi in the Human King Armor, then at the old man in the black robe.
“And you are the Death Envoy.”
“We belong to different races, born from different histories. The Queen created us using the power of the World Tree. How interesting, powerful figures from different eras gathered together.”
The three great Envoys were each born from different histories within the World Tree?
This statement struck Xia Yi as incredible, yet reasonable.
She had once witnessed the truth of how humanity fell from a superior race to an ordinary one within the Lesser World Tree at the Laurel Academy.
The Human Envoy’s abilities and memories all originated from the Human King of that era.
So then, were the Dragon Envoy and the Death Envoy also derived from the kings of superior races from different periods of the mythical age?
It seemed the Queen was truly terrifying, able to summon such overwhelmingly powerful beings through the World Tree.
“Only at the moment of our creation did the Queen meet and speak with us. She told us to go and cleanse the erroneous regions of this world and to reclaim the data of souls. After that, she never saw us again,” the Dragon Envoy mused. “It’s really not easy to have an audience with the Queen.”
So the three great Envoys had only met the Queen once?
Xia Yi understood.
No wonder the Death Envoy had behaved that way earlier, the Envoys rarely, if ever, met with the Queen.
Most of the rules had likely been negotiated among the three Envoys themselves.
For instance, the division of territories, the power over life and death, and the regular meetings… None of these involved the Queen.
The Queen’s command seemed to be only one: cleanse the erroneous regions and reclaim the data of souls.
“Dragon Envoy, I am extremely dissatisfied with your performance.”
The Death Envoy suddenly turned his criticism against the Dragon Envoy.
“I have seen that there are countless Calamity Beasts outside the Maginot Fortress. This is the root of chaos.”
“Indeed, there are many Calamity Beasts in this region. However, the people here are struggling valiantly. They spare no effort and resist with all their might just to survive.”
“Why not eliminate the people here?”
“The order of chaos has not yet descended upon this place.”
“These people will eventually be infected. They are destined to become Calamity Beasts. Rather than act when that happens, it would be better to deal with them now,” the Death Envoy retorted. “We could kill them all right now.”
Xia Yi was stunned upon hearing this.
This Death Envoy was even more radical than the Human Envoy.
The Human Envoy would descend only when signs of Calamity Beast infection appeared and carry out the cleansing mission.
The Death Envoy wanted to eliminate everyone before any infection even occurred.
If you kill everyone, then no one will get infected.
Truly a twisted logician.
“Death Envoy, you seem a bit too extreme,” the Dragon Envoy remarked.
“Dragon Envoy, is it that you don’t want to kill… or that you cannot kill?”
The Death Envoy stood up, using his height to look down on the silver-haired dragon-eared girl.
“What do you mean?” The Dragon Envoy looked confused.
“Among the three Envoys, you have performed the fewest cleansings. You have no outstanding battle record, nor any impressive achievements.”
“So what?”
“I simply think you lack ability. Even if you went all out against the people inside the Maginot Fortress, you might not necessarily win,” the Death Envoy said ruthlessly. “Perhaps the Queen made a mistake and chose an incompetent fool to be an Envoy.”
“Hahaha.”
The Dragon Envoy did not get angry at being so belittled. Instead, she laughed.
“I’m really not that impressive.”
“Since you’re so incompetent, hand over your territory at once. Let me take over the region you govern.” The Death Envoy pressed aggressively.
“And what if I say no?” the Dragon Envoy replied unhurriedly.
“Dragon Envoy, feel free to demonstrate your strength and defeat me, making me submit willingly. If you can do that, I will naturally have no objection to your attitude toward the Maginot Fortress.”
“I have no interest in fighting.”
“No interest? I think you don’t dare! What a laughable coward. Dragon Envoy, in your era, the dragon race must have been at its weakest, correct?”
The Death Envoy sneered.
“I once plunged the entire world into hell. Even the kings of superior races from other eras became undead under my control. If you had been born in my age, you would have been one of them as well.”
This… could be considered infighting, right?
Xia Yi felt the atmosphere in the room grow tense, as if a fight might break out at any second.
“Human Envoy, why have you remained silent?” The Death Envoy turned to Xia Yi. “What is your opinion?”
Xia Yi thought it over.
Given the Human Envoy’s diligent attitude, he would probably want to take over the Dragon Envoy’s territory as well.
All three Envoys were troublesome. Perhaps…
Letting the Dragon Envoy and the Death Envoy tear each other apart might be a good option!
“I agree with the Death Envoy. If you lack the ability, you should give up this job, Dragon Envoy,” Xia Yi said, putting on a show. “For the sake of our past as colleagues, I won’t harm you.”
“Before the Queen, we all swore not to fight one another. Do you intend to go back on your word?” the Dragon Envoy asked.
“…”
The Death Envoy fell silent.
This was true.
Though his verbal attack had been fierce, he was not yet ready to completely burn bridges.
“How boring. Let’s end this pointless meeting quickly. There’s no need to continue talking.”
The Death Envoy extended his palm, on which floated a dense cluster of glowing orbs.
“These are the soul data I have recently reclaimed.”
“And here is mine.”
The Dragon Envoy also showed her results, only a single glowing orb.
“Hmph, truly useless,” the Death Envoy scoffed. “Human Envoy, show us your recent results. With your work ethic, this time should be more than last time.”
“I…”
Xia Yi was dumbfounded.
Oh no. Where was she supposed to get any soul data?
She couldn’t just produce them out of thin air.
Given the Human Envoy’s diligent work style, he would definitely have collected a substantial amount.
There was no way to explain not showing any results here.
“Meow meow~”
The cat jumped from the table onto the armored swordswoman.
“Oh my, it seems the cat likes you too.” The Dragon Envoy smiled slightly and made an ambiguous remark.
“Human Envoy, what are you doing?” The Death Envoy was growing impatient.
“Don’t rush, Death Envoy. Look here…”
Suddenly, Xia Yi had a stroke of genius and thought of a solution.
She stood up, slowly extended her hand toward the two in front, and then made a surprising move.
