Volume 6 Chapter 105
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 105: Mutation
Facing the guards charging at him, Lao Huo did not dodge. Instead, he let out a furious roar and lunged forward.
The electric batons in the guards’ hands slammed into Lao Huo’s body, releasing powerful currents.
Under such electrical shock, an ordinary person would have been paralyzed instantly and lost all ability to move.
Yet Lao Huo endured the attack head-on. Not only did he not collapse, he actually raised both of his arms.
Slash!
Right before everyone’s eyes, Lao Huo’s hands pierced straight through the guard’s body.
The sight left the entire courtroom dumbstruck.
But what came next was even more horrifying. Lao Huo’s expression twisted into something savage and monstrous as he snarled, “Die!”
His hands suddenly exerted force, and he tore the guard’s body apart from the middle alive, ripping him into two halves as though he were tearing dried meat apart.
“AAAAAHHHHHHH!!”
Terrified screams erupted everywhere. The civilians who had come to watch were scared out of their wits, they had never witnessed such a horrifying scene before.
The courtroom instantly descended into chaos as everyone began fleeing toward the exits.
“What happened to Lao Huo…?”
Xia Yi frowned.
Not long ago, this man had still been confined to a wheelchair, only capable of fighting with firearms. His physical combat ability had been pitifully weak. Once his wheelchair was destroyed, he could only lie helplessly on the ground and beg for mercy.
But now, Lao Huo not only moved freely, he could even tear apart a living human with his bare hands.
This could no longer be described as a medical miracle.
Even the presiding judge was stunned, yet he still forced himself to suppress his fear and continued shouting orders to the remaining guards.
“What are you standing there for?! Use your weapons immediately and suppress this violent criminal…”
“Anyone who dares touch what belongs to me… I won’t spare a single one of you!!”
Like a mad beast, Lao Huo charged toward the judge’s bench at terrifying speed. The nearby guards had no time to react before he slammed the judge to the ground.
“Y-you… what are you trying to do?! Stop! Stop! I’m only following orders! It was the City Lord who instructed me to do this! Mr. Lao Huo, I hold no grudge against you!”
The judge struggled in terror, but Lao Huo’s grip locked down both of his arms so tightly that he could not move at all.
Lao Huo ignored the pleas entirely. He opened his mouth and bit down viciously, tearing straight through the judge’s throat.
After letting out one agonized scream, the judge’s head tilted limply to the side, and no more sound came from him.
“A-ah…!!”
One of the guards had already been frightened out of his mind. Forgetting everything else, he raised the gun in his hand and fired wildly at Lao Huo.
Bang bang bang bang!
The guard’s terror made his aim atrocious, but several bullets still struck Lao Huo’s body.
Yet bullets capable of shattering magical barriers failed to penetrate his flesh.
After killing the judge, the maddened scholar remained crouched low before slowly turning around to face the shooter.
Only then did Xia Yi notice it.
Lao Huo’s skin had turned black, as though ink had spilled into clear water. The abnormal darkness spread rapidly across his body, gradually swallowing his original skin tone.
His body continued swelling. His limbs thickened, his nails elongated into sharp claws, and his facial features became increasingly grotesque.
Almost every part of his body was mutating. Even without doing anything, the sheer toughness of his flesh had already reached the point where it could deflect bullets.
“ROOOOAAARRR!!”
Lao Huo let out a beast-like howl and sprinted forward on all fours toward the gunman, casually smashing the firearm apart with a swipe of his claws.
Then came another strike, cleaving the guard’s body open.
“Retreat! Call the Security Patrol immediately! This is beyond what we can handle! That monster is going to kill all of us!”
After shouting that, the prosecutor turned and fled toward the rear exit.
But as he passed by the judge’s bench, the judge, whose throat had supposedly been torn out, suddenly raised a hand like a corpse coming back to life and grabbed onto the prosecutor’s leg with frightening force.
“J-Judge? You’re still alive?!”
The prosecutor stared in shock.
“…”
The judge said nothing. Slowly, he lifted his head and stared at the prosecutor.
His eyes had changed as well.
Just like Lao Huo, the whites of his eyes had vanished, dyed completely black, while his pupils glowed with eerie crimson light.
The prosecutor froze.
The next moment, a chilling sensation spread through his abdomen as his vision spun violently.
The judge’s newly grown claw had pierced straight through his body.
Threads of sinister energy spread from the wound, rapidly infecting and transforming him.
At death’s door, the prosecutor felt himself overwhelmed by a violent, uncontrollable urge.
Just like the judge, he rose back to his feet, mutated.
“That aura… the aura of Calamity?”
Xia Yi noticed the details immediately.
There was no way she could mistake it. It was unmistakably the aura of Calamity. No wonder it had felt so familiar.
Just like those people at Laurel Tree Academy before, Lao Huo had been infected by the aura of Calamity and transformed into a Calamity Beast. Through attacking others, he was spreading the infection further.
But Xia Yi could not understand why Calamity Beasts had appeared here.
The source of the Calamity aura was the Legendary Beast… could it be…
“Xia Yi, hurry! We need to get out of here!”
Qiu grabbed Xia Yi’s hand and began running toward the exit.
But after only a few steps, Xia Yi sensed danger rushing toward them. She suddenly shoved Qiu away with force, sending her several meters aside.
Boom!
The fully transformed Calamity Beast Lao Huo descended from above. His murderous strike missed its target.
Had Xia Yi not reacted instantly, Qiu’s body might have been pierced straight through.
“It’s you… it’s all because of you…!”
The Calamity Beast Lao Huo stared at Xia Yi with undisguised hatred.
“You reduced me to this state, damn Silver Dragon!!”
“Xia Yi!!”
Qiu looked at Xia Yi with overwhelming worry.
Xia Yi’s eyes rapidly swept across the surrounding chaos.
Those infected by the aura of Calamity had already mutated and were charging into the crowds, slaughtering indiscriminately.
“No! I don’t want to die here!!”
“Please spare me!”
“Where is the Security Patrol?! Why aren’t they here to save us?!”
The entire courthouse had completely lost control.
“Big Sis Qiu, run!”
Separated from Qiu by the Calamity Beast, Xia Yi shouted to her loudly.
“Get out of here! Don’t hesitate!”
“But, ”
“No ‘but’! If you don’t want to die, then run! Don’t get in the way of my fight!”
Meeting Xia Yi’s gaze, Qiu vaguely sensed that this little Silver Dragon was far from ordinary.
This was not empty bravado.
It was the confidence of the truly strong.
“Alright, Xia Yi. Then… be careful!”
Qiu made her decision, nodded firmly, and turned to flee toward the exit.
“I’ll kill you… kill you… kill you…!” the Calamity Beast Lao Huo hissed endlessly at Xia Yi with overwhelming malice. “I’ll… take everything from you…!”
