Volume 6 Chapter 10
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 10: Official Member of The Royal Maid Corps
“Elly, you just said… that you want to become an official member of the Royal Maid Corps… right?”
Xia Yi questioned Elly.
“Your Highness, you heard what I just said?!”
Elly clutched her head, filled with regret. She never should have been talking to herself, now the princess had overheard her strange mutterings.
“Mm, I did hear some of it. It seems you’re rather dissatisfied with your current situation, Elly.”
“N-no, Your Highness, I was just…”
Elly didn’t even know how to explain herself.
Why did it have to be at the exact moment she was complaining that Xia Yi overheard her?
Was her luck really this bad?
“Oh my, Elly, it seems you’re not only dissatisfied with the Dragon Palace, but you even thought of knocking down my portrait with a broom,” Xia Yi said, raising the broom in her hand. “Do you realize what kind of offense that is?”
“Your Highness, I was wrong, I was wrong!!”
Elly hurriedly begged for forgiveness.
She had followed Xia Yi to Fox Hill and, after much effort, finally made up for her past mistakes and offset her punishment.
Now, because of a moment of impulsiveness, she was about to end up in prison again.
“It’s fine, Elly. Between heaven and earth, only you and I know of this. If I pretend I didn’t see it, then it never happened.”
Xia Yi stuffed the broom back into Elly’s hands.
“This time, hold it properly. Don’t go flinging it again.”
“I…”
Elly stared at the broom in her hands. Instead of feeling relieved, she grew even more tense.
Would the princess really be this kind?
Impossible, absolutely impossible!
The little green dragon maid began to tremble. She felt that an even greater crisis was about to descend.
This kind of situation felt eerily familiar…
She had a strong premonition that what came next would not be as simple as imprisonment.
At best, she might lose her head. At worst, her entire clan could be wiped out.
“Hmm, Elly, why are you sweating now?”
Xia Yi leaned closer, asking curiously.
“Do you find me frightening?”
“Not at all, Your Highness, you’re not frightening at all!!”
“Then why are you so nervous?”
“I… I just…”
Elly stammered.
Xia Yi changed the topic, circling around Elly and examining the clumsy little maid as if assessing something.
Elly didn’t dare breathe loudly, like a rabbit being stared down by a venomous snake, afraid that even the slightest movement would provoke a deadly predator.
“Elly, I’ve heard from others about your recent leave,” Xia Yi said. “You only returned to work today, right?”
“Waaah!! That’s not it, Your Highness, it’s really not what you think!”
Elly desperately wanted to explain, but when the words reached her lips, she couldn’t find a concise way to express herself without causing further misunderstanding.
“My leave… it wasn’t because I was slacking off! I was forced into it, I truly wanted to keep working, please believe me!”
“Is that so?” Xia Yi narrowed her eyes.
“I-it’s true…”
Elly felt as if her tongue had tied itself in knots.
Why was she so bad with words? Why couldn’t she even explain something like this clearly?
Instead, it made her look like she was lying out of guilt.
Now, in the princess’s eyes, her credibility must have plummeted.
The Royal Maid Corps existed to serve the dragon royal family.
If one couldn’t earn their recognition, becoming an official member would naturally be impossible.
Elly felt her career turning bleak and hopeless.
“Elly, you want to become an official member of the Royal Maid Corps, right?” Xia Yi asked again.
“Yes, Your Highness, I do!”
Elly, flushed with emotion, admitted it directly in front of Xia Yi.
Yet the more she spoke, the less confident she felt.
“But… let alone becoming an official member, I know I don’t even qualify to apply for the assessment yet… I’m either making mistakes or on my way to making one.”
She found it incredibly baffling.
From the moment she entered the Dragon Palace and became a trainee maid, everything had gone smoothly, she encountered almost no major problems, let alone disasters.
But at some point, her luck turned, and misfortune clung to her. Every assessment ended in failure, often accompanied by severe punishment…
If Xia Yi hadn’t helped her every time, she might have already been finished.
“I understand your thoughts now.”
Xia Yi revealed a smile reminiscent of a villain.
It sent a chill down Elly’s spine.
“Elly, you must listen carefully…”
“Your Highness, I’m willing to do anything, just say it!”
Gritting her teeth, Elly shut her eyes, ready to stake everything.
“Very good. Elly, you truly are qualified to become an official member of the Royal Maid Corps. Now, raise your hand.”
“Y-yes…”
Following Xia Yi’s instructions, Elly raised her hand, mentally preparing for suffering.
Then, a small object dropped into her palm.
“Alright, Elly. Open your eyes and put it on,” Xia Yi said.
“Okay.”
Elly opened her eyes and saw that it was a badge. She began to pin it onto herself,
“Wait, Your Highness, what is this?!”
The little green dragon maid froze and cried out in shock.
“You’re asking what it is? Isn’t it obvious?” Xia Yi tilted her head. “It’s the exclusive badge of an official member of the Royal Maid Corps.”
Of course Elly knew, it was the badge representing an official member. Not only did it bear the emblem, but it also had the maid’s name engraved in dragon script, something that couldn’t be erased by ordinary means. It symbolized identity itself.
It was something she had dreamed of, but why was Xia Yi giving it to her?
“Your Highness, there must be some mistake, right?”
“No mistake. This is your badge. You are already an official member of the Royal Maid Corps.”
“…Huh?”
Elly froze.
“I’ve already discussed your promotion with Lucia,” Xia Yi explained. “Since I obtained Xia Lulu’s approval, Lucia agreed as well. The moment you receive that badge, it’s equivalent to passing the assessment. You’re no longer a trainee, you’re now an official member.”
“…What’s the reason?”
“The reason? My recognition, of course.”
“…And the cost?” Elly seemed unable to accept reality. “There must be some cost, right? Like signing a contract with you and selling my soul…”
“Do you take me for some kind of demon? There’s no cost at all. You’re overthinking it, I came here just to tell you this.”
“…”
Elly stared wide-eyed at the badge in her hands, unable to believe it.
Her dream had finally come true.
“Elly, your efforts haven’t been in vain. You’ve achieved your wish and become an official member of the Royal Maid Corps,” Xia Yi clapped in congratulations. “Congratulations~”
