Volume 6 + Chapter 1: Enduring Hardship And Biding One’s Time

    Dragon Kingdom, Loran State.

“Mr. Raymond, my apologies for disturbing you.”

A Dragon Clan officer in uniform entered the room, stopping behind a man and saluting respectfully.

    “…”

The man sat on a sofa, silently staring at a portrait hanging on the wall.

The portrait depicted a young dragon of extraordinary bearing, a black dragon.

“Mr. Raymond?” the officer called again.

    “I heard you.”

The man rose slowly and turned, revealing his face.

A vicious scar ran across it, one eye covered by an eyepatch. His expression was fierce, radiating the aura of someone who had crawled out from piles of corpses, a hardened warrior.

He was Raymond, the governor of Loran State.

    “Is everything prepared?”

    Raymond asked his subordinate.

“Yes, Mr. Raymond. All forces have assembled outside. They await your command.”

“…At last, the day has come.”

Raymond glanced once more at the portrait, his gaze profound.

The figure in the painting was someone absolutely forbidden to mention within the Dragon Kingdom…

    The Dragon Hero, Frey.

According to the laws of the Dragon Realm, anyone found privately possessing Frey’s portrait would be executed, regardless of status or reason.

Under normal circumstances, Raymond, appointed by the Silver Dragon Queen to govern Loran State, should never commit such an act.

It was a direct affront to the queen.

Yet in truth, from the day he assumed office, he had secretly kept Frey’s portrait in his room.

To Raymond, Frey held a significance beyond compare.

“Mr. Raymond… are you certain you wish to act today?” his subordinate asked cautiously. “Once the arrow is released, there is no turning back.”

“I know that well. Back then, I chose to endure humiliation, kneeling before the Silver Dragon Queen, biding my time and gathering strength for years, all for this day,” Raymond declared firmly. “Now that I possess the means to oppose Xia Lulu, how could I retreat?!”

“Very well. I understand your resolve. I will stand by your side and fight to the very last drop of my blood!”

His subordinate nodded solemnly, then knelt and presented a sword.

    “Come with me.”

Raymond took the blade and left the room, escorted by soldiers, heading toward the staging grounds.

Countless troops had already assembled, awaiting orders.

These were his private forces, built over years under the guise of a security corps, loyal not to the royal army, but to Raymond alone.

They were death-bound warriors, ready to carry out any command, no matter how extreme.

“The time has come, today we rise!”

Raymond drew his sword and raised it high, its blade gleaming coldly in the winter sun.

“Soldiers, heed my command! March on Fero State, strike swiftly and annihilate the lackeys of the usurper Xia Lulu!”

    “Yes, sir!!”

    His army roared in response.

    “Roar!!!”

Releasing years of suppressed emotion in a thunderous cry, Raymond transformed into his dragon form and soared into the sky.

His forces followed, rising in a vast formation toward neighboring Fero State.

“First seize Fero State, then take the nearby Lopez State. Eliminate the usurper’s loyalists. Once we control these two states, the others will waver and become open to persuasion.”

    Raymond had already planned everything.

“Then we can carve the eastern territories away from Xia Lulu’s control, forming a deep defensive line and using geography to hold her forces at bay.”

However, one crucial condition had to be met.

Before his forces fully formed, the Dragon General Heinrich must not intervene.

If that iron-blooded general acted swiftly and crushed his army before it could take hold, everything would collapse.

Fortunately, Raymond had received intelligence, so Heinrich would not act immediately.

    His plan had a chance.

Even if failure meant death, Raymond was willing to risk everything.

The reason was simple, he had once served under Frey.

The Dragon Hero had given him recognition and purpose.

He had witnessed Frey’s greatness, saving the Dragon Clan from crisis, restoring their honor, repelling enemies, and defending the borders.

A leader who valued talent, pacified the realm, and inspired awe…

Every one of those deeds was etched into Raymond’s memory.

Everyone had believed Frey, the rightful heir, would become Dragon King and lead their people to glory.

But it had all been destroyed by a despicable usurper.

Driven by ambition, Xia Lulu had used deceit, murdered Frey, imprisoned the former emperor Gekar, and seized power.

A true warrior dies for those who understand him.

Many like Raymond had risen in rebellion, but most were slain by the tyrant.

Raymond, too, had once intended to die in battle for revenge.

But if an elder had awakened him, such a death would be meaningless. To avenge Frey, he must endure and wait.

Thus, Raymond cast aside his pride and surrendered.

To win hearts, Xia Lulu spared him and even granted him rank.

From then on, Raymond endured in silence, rising step by step to become governor.

    Until today.

“Xia Lulu, you will pay for your crimes!!”
