Volume 5 Chapter 11
by Need_More_SleepVolume 5 + Chapter 11: Midnight Operation
“It’s already deep into the night.”
Serra, who was still working inside the Dragon Clan’s imperial palace, glanced at the clock.
The night had grown late, and the entire Dragon Clan palace was gradually quieting down.
She walked over to the window and looked toward Xia Yi’s room.
Sure enough, just as expected, the lights inside were still on.
“Her Highness the Princess’s daily routine lately really has been problematic,” Serra sighed softly.
Because of her outstanding performance in the Anti-Vampire War, Xia Yi had been granted special leave by Xia Lulu. During this vacation, she neither needed to study nor work, nor was she subject to too many restrictions.
As a result, the little princess, who had always been closely supervised, chose to indulge herself in retaliatory pleasure, staying up late every night to play and never getting out of bed before noon the next day.
“I should probably go remind her.”
With that thought, the red dragon maid, an elegant older-sister type, decided that before getting off work and returning to rest, she would stop by the Silver Dragon Princess’s room to offer some gentle advice.
After spending a bit of time wrapping up the tasks at hand, Serra made her way to Xia Yi’s door.
Knock knock knock.
She knocked.
“Hm? Who is it?”
A slightly childish yet adorable voice came from inside the room.
“Your Highness, it’s me, your personal attendant maid, Serra.”
“Oh, it’s Serra? Then come in!”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Serra opened the door and stepped inside.
The white-haired loli, dressed in pink-and-white pajamas, was lying prone on the bed, happily reading a manga. Her pale little feet swung back and forth in the air. Beside her sat a bottle of ‘otaku happiness water,’ and from time to time she pulled a potato chip from the bag and popped it into her mouth.
“No way, how did he just die like that? The strongest character in the entire series actually got cut in half?! Is this author serious?!”
Completely immersed in the manga, Xia Yi couldn’t help but complain.
“Um…”
Serra truly didn’t know how to comment on this scene.
For a princess like this to establish dignity, perhaps that was still far too difficult.
“Serra, you came to see me so late, did something happen?” Xia Yi turned her head and asked.
“It’s nothing important, Your Highness. I just came to remind you that it’s already very late. Perhaps you should go to sleep now. You can leave the manga for tomorrow.”
In truth, Serra didn’t hold much hope.
After hearing this, Xia Yi would most likely respond with something like, “Got it, I’ll sleep soon!” just to brush her off.
Without any restraints, getting this mischievous princess to obediently go to bed was simply too difficult.
“Mhm, okay. I understand.”
Xia Yi closed the manga.
“What?”
Serra’s pupils practically shook.
What was going on?
She wondered if she had misheard.
“Your Highness… how about putting away the snacks too?” Serra asked tentatively. “I can help you brush your teeth and get ready for bed.”
“Sure! Then I’ll leave it to you, Serra. I’ll go to bed early tonight.”
Xia Yi put away the snacks as well and walked over to Serra, looking just like a well-behaved child.
“?”
Question marks practically popped up over Serra’s head.
Why was Xia Yi, usually so mischievous, being this obedient today?
Just because of a few words from her, she stopped eating snacks, stopped reading manga, and willingly went to sleep?
“What’s wrong, Serra? Why are you staring at me like that?”
“…It’s nothing, Your Highness. Please follow me.”
Serra replied, forcibly suppressing her astonishment, and led Xia Yi to wash up.
……
“Good night, Serra~”
“Yes. Good night, Your Highness.”
After saluting, Serra turned off the lights and withdrew from Xia Yi’s room.
Although she didn’t know exactly what had happened, based on her experience as a personal maid,
The more obedient the princess was, the more disobedient she actually was.
The more normal the princess seemed, the more abnormal she truly was.
The more compliant the princess appeared, the more she was…
……
……
“Hehe, I totally fooled Serra!”
Xia Yi opened her eyes and quietly lifted the blanket.
On a moonless, windy night like this, it was the perfect time to carry out her plan!
From beneath the bed, she took out a humanoid doll she had prepared in advance. She put a silver wig on it, dressed it in her sleepwear, then stuffed it under the covers and tucked the blanket back in.
The human-shaped doll completely replaced her, remaining in the room as if it were sleeping.
“Hehe!”
Xia Yi almost laughed out loud and quickly covered her mouth.
No, she couldn’t laugh yet. Popping the champagne this early would be a mistake. She couldn’t afford to repeat past failures.
The little princess changed into a dark-toned outfit to better blend into the night, and also put on a hat, tucking her white hair inside to keep it from standing out too much in the darkness.
After finishing all preparations, she opened the window and stepped onto the windowsill.
A leap of faith!
Xia Yi jumped down from the height, landing in the grass below and using her footwork to achieve a flawless landing.
The grass rustled only slightly. Other than that, there was no major disturbance, nor did it attract the attention of the patrolling guards.
This was footwork honed through countless life-and-death battles during her Sword Saint days. Even though her body had completely changed, it was still ingrained in her instincts.
Xia Yi poked her head out and scanned her surroundings, confirming the positions of the palace guards. She had long since memorized their patrol routes, she could avoid them even with her eyes closed.
She dashed out of the bushes and began moving.
Along the way, she even spotted the captain of the palace guards. Facing his back, she made a face at him.
“Bleeeh~”
“Hm?”
The guard captain felt as though someone was watching him and turned around, but saw nothing.
“Am I just imagining things?”
“Hehe~”
Hiding behind a pillar, Xia Yi laughed quietly. This feeling of teasing others was really quite nice~
However, she hadn’t come out just to mess with the palace guards, she was here to meet someone.
She continued forward and, at a fountain in one part of the palace, spotted a nervous, uneasy figure.
“Your Highness! Y-you’re finally here!!”
Upon seeing Xia Yi, Elly hurried over.
“Elly, you weren’t discovered, were you?” Xia Yi asked.
“No, Your Highness! I kept avoiding the patrolling guards!” Elly said nervously. “If they’d found me, I… I wouldn’t have been able to explain myself. It would’ve been far too suspicious!”
“That’s good.”
“Your Highness, I followed your instructions and came here late at night, avoiding everyone’s sight, to prove my loyalty. You can trust me now, right?”
“Hehe~”
Xia Yi revealed a conspiratorial smile and spoke lines no different from a villainous antagonist.
“Elly, if you want to earn my trust, this is still far from enough. You’ll need to be even more obedient than this~”
