    Volume 5 + Chapter 32: A Preposterous Demand

Xia Yi had not even reached the gates of Greenfield City when she saw a pink-haired fox already waiting there for her.

“O my destined rival, the appointed day is finally upon us. Sacred white and crimson shall drown pure silver, prepare yourself!”

Yue Liu struck a pose and uttered a string of words whose meaning was completely unclear.

“Your Highness, that’s the princess of the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan, right?” Elly asked curiously. “What is she saying?”

    “Well… about that…”

Even Xia Yi did not know how to answer.

In truth, she had long since grown accustomed to Yue Liu’s habit of making cryptic, nonsensical declarations.

Still, at a moment like this, she could say,

“Fox Radish, long time no see!” she greeted her cheerfully.

The instant the nickname “Fox Radish” was used, the little fox completely lost her composure. The cool, imposing aura she had built up collapsed on the spot, even her tone slipping.

“W-Who are you calling Fox Radish?! You damn silver dragon! Don’t just casually shout my nickname! This is a formal diplomatic occasion!”

“Weren’t you the one being unserious first, Fox Radish?”

“If you keep acting this childish,” the little fox said in a low voice, “I’ll expose you, tell everyone about how you slacked off at school!”

“Alright, alright, I get it, Yue Liu,” Xia Yi quickly corrected herself.

    “Hmph, that’s more like it!”

The little fox nodded in satisfaction.

“This land is the paradise of the other shore, a noble homeland, the supreme pure realm never trodden upon by evil dragons. Tremble, marvel, this shall be a brand-new chapter of history!”

“Her Highness is welcoming you to Greenfield City.”

Yue Liu’s subordinate translated for her princess.

“Silver Dragon Princess, before your arrival, no dragon has ever entered Fox Hill proper. You are the first.”

“I see. That truly is an honor,” Xia Yi said with a sigh of emotion.

She looked at the foxfolk before her and felt a faint sense of familiarity.

    She remembered now.

When she had previously left the human world, the little fox had lent her a hand.

It had been the foxfolk who provided a ship and escorted her through the waterways, allowing her to leave the Rhine Kingdom.

The one who had received her back then was this very mature fox girl standing before her now, Yue Liu’s subordinate, whose name seemed to be Hongshan.

“Hongshan, don’t casually translate for me! You’re ruining the atmosphere!!” the little fox complained unhappily.

“But if you speak like that, conversation becomes impossible,” Hongshan explained. “Not everyone can hear Your Highness’s sacred words.”

    “Sacred words, huh… I suppose that’s true.”

The little fox was unexpectedly placated by Hongshan’s flattery and did not pursue the matter further.

“Very well. Come with me, my destined rival,” the little fox said to Xia Yi. “Though I greatly wish to determine victory or defeat with you, we still have important matters to attend to. I shall represent the foxfolk and receive you, the representative of the dragon clan.”

    “Mm.”

    Xia Yi nodded.

The dragon delegation followed the foxfolk and entered Greenfield City.

“Wow, Your Highness, look, so much fluffiness everywhere!”

After passing through the city gates, Elly found the scene on the streets fascinating.

Xia Yi saw countless foxfolk here. Like the little fox, most were in humanoid form, each with a pair of fox ears atop their heads and a fluffy tail behind them.

Only after observing the other foxfolk did she truly notice how unique Yue Liu was.

Whether it was her pink fur or her nine tails, Yue Liu stood completely apart from the rest.

The city’s style was also entirely different from that of the Dragon Kingdom. Buildings were arranged in a complex, interwoven manner. Entering Greenfield City felt like falling into an enormous web, uneven towers filled the view, dazzling and layered like clustered peaks. Within such a city, it was easy to lose one’s sense of direction. Without a guide, one would certainly become lost in its maze-like streets.

“Why do the people following Her Highness have no fur on their tails?”

“And their eyes look strange too, vertical pupils, like a snake’s…”

“No, that’s not a snake! They look like dragons!!”

    “Huh?! Dragons?!”

When the foxfolk of Greenfield City realized that dragons had arrived, the city erupted into an uproar.

For a moment, discussion spread everywhere, with all kinds of voices rising at once.

However, most foxfolk gazes were filled with wariness.

After all, the dragon clan’s reputation across the continent was far from good.

Still, because the princess of the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan was present, no one dared to step forward and cause trouble.

“Seems like we’re not exactly welcome wherever we go,” Xia Yi muttered.

“I remember that other races generally hold hostility toward us dragons, right?” Elly asked. “Some of the foxfolk seem especially afraid of us.”

“Yeah. In most stories, we dragons are basically cast as the ultimate villains.”

Xia Yi sounded a bit helpless, she knew that feeling all too well.

Elly found it strange. If that was the case, why did her own princess and the foxfolk princess seem to get along so well, chatting and joking the moment they met? What exactly was the relationship between those two?

“Alright, my destined rival, we’ve arrived.”

The little fox led Xia Yi to a luxurious courtyard and, as the host, invited the dragon delegation inside and entertained them.

Xia Yi experienced the foxfolk’s hospitality and found it rather novel overall.

As the princess of the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan, Yue Liu personally demonstrated the tea ceremony for Xia Yi, boiling water and brewing tea with her own hands.

Every movement of the little fox carried a quiet, restrained elegance, resembling a reclusive beauty untouched by worldly affairs.

Though she usually appeared scatterbrained, as a princess of a nation, Yue Liu’s training in etiquette was impeccable, and she had mastered skills in music, board games, calligraphy, and painting…

As long as she didn’t speak, Yue Liu was truly flawless!

Unfortunately, such a beautiful little fox still had a mouth.

“Come, my destined rival. Taste my tea ceremony.”

With pride, the little fox slid a fragrant teacup toward Xia Yi.

Xia Yi accepted it politely and took a light sip. The aroma filled her senses, refreshing her mind, earning high praise in her heart.

“It’s truly excellent. But Yue Liu, you didn’t invite us here just to drink tea, did you?” Xia Yi asked.

“Of course not. In that case, I’ll speak frankly!”

The little fox paused, then delivered a statement that stunned everyone present.

“The foxfolk are willing to consider establishing diplomatic relations with the dragon clan, but the Blackstone Kingdom must be handed over to us!”

    “What?!”

The dragons nearby instantly lost their composure upon hearing this.

Such a demand was simply too outrageous.

The little fox wore a faint smile, clearly making such a statement on purpose, wanting to see whether Xia Yi would fly into a rage, lose her composure, and embarrass herself in a diplomatic setting.

However, what no one expected was that Xia Yi actually responded.

    “Alright.”

“You’re… agreeing to it?” The little fox blinked, utterly incredulous.

“Of course. But we also have one condition, something extremely easy for your foxfolk to fulfill.”

“What condition?” the little fox asked eagerly.

Xia Yi pointed directly at her.

“You, marry into our Dragon Kingdom.”
