Volume 4 Chapter 268
by Need_More_SleepVolume 4 + Chapter 268: Farewell
“Give Miu Miu back to me!!”
This was Xia Yi’s answer to Elizabeth.
Now, she could still wield the Authority of Gluttony, exerting its devouring power upon all things in the world, and that included devouring souls.
If she devoured Elizabeth’s soul and preserved the part that was Miu Miu, then Miu Miu would return, revived within this body.
“This… is actually your… goal?”
Elizabeth’s eyes were filled with disbelief.
Countless years of effort, plans forged with immense dedication, opportunities bought by sacrificing so much…
And in the end, all of it was destroyed because of the life of a single vampire girl.
Did that seem… equivalent?
Yet Elizabeth herself understood well that in this world, there was no such thing as equivalence.
Just as in the eyes of some, saving one person mattered more than saving the entire world.
However, from her perspective, she simply could not comprehend Xia Yi’s actions.
“Why must you save Miu Miu? Is she that important to you? I’ve seen her memories, and I truly cannot find a reason for you to fight this desperately.”
“Miu Miu called out to me for help, and I answered her plea. Isn’t that enough?” Xia Yi replied.
Upon hearing this answer, Elizabeth was left speechless.
She had expected Xia Yi to give some earth-shattering response, a reason she could not refute, but in the end, it was just…
Such a simple reason?
It sounded like an answer from a kindergarten child!
“Hahaha, ahahahaha!”
Elizabeth burst into uncontrollable laughter.
The Vampire Ancestor Goddess, unrivaled in this era, had actually lost to a mere child!
Was there anything in this world more ironic than that?
Xia Yi had no desire to engage with Elizabeth further. She activated the Authority of Gluttony, invading Elizabeth’s soul and beginning the process of devouring.
To describe the sensation, it was like… eating jelly?
She just needed to avoid Miu Miu’s portion and strip away Elizabeth’s part, leaving it behind.
“Xia Yi, let me tell you something, you will never be able to save Miu Miu!”
Elizabeth’s gaze shifted, now filled with malice.
“I told you, she is dead and will never return to this world!”
“What are you trying to do?!” Xia Yi sensed something was wrong.
“Using the Authority of Gluttony to distinguish between my soul and Miu Miu’s is a clever idea. But have you considered this. What if I choose self-annihilation, destroying my own soul along with Miu Miu’s? What could you do then?”
Elizabeth narrowed her eyes.
She proposed an utterly insane scenario.
“I admit it, I lost to you! But don’t think you’ll achieve a complete victory. Even in this situation, taking Miu Miu’s soul with me is no difficult task! You only wield a remnant of Gluttony’s authority, you cannot devour me instantly, can you?!”
“Stop!”
Xia Yi pushed the Authority of Gluttony to its limits.
But just as Elizabeth had said, the Authority of Gluttony was incomplete, a leftover from the Shadow of Gluttony, incomparable to the true authority.
She was devouring the wretched woman’s soul, but it would take time.
“Naive child.”
A mocking curve lifted the corner of Elizabeth’s lips as she delivered her final words.
“Say goodbye to Miu Miu, though, she’ll probably never hear it~”
…
…
“Moo!!”
The Beastmen Chieftain swung his totem, smashing it into the Dwarf army’s ranks.
“Stop, Beastmen Chieftain! We are your allies!”
The Dwarf King roared in fury, raising his Thunder Hammer to summon lightning from the clouds and hurl it at the Beastmen Chieftain.
“Hammer of Thunder!!”
At that moment, a figure leaped from the side, charging toward the Dwarf King to cover the Beastmen Chieftain’s assault.
“Eighth-Level Great Gale!!”
The Troll King whirled his battle-axe fiercely, creating afterimages that stirred air currents like a raging gale, crashing against the Dwarf King’s Hammer of Thunder.
“What?!”
The Dwarf King was stunned.
Boom!!
With no further obstruction, the Beastmen Chieftain charged straight through, slamming his totem into the ground. The earth shattered, and a large swath of the Dwarf army was sent flying by the shockwave.
The Troll King landed beside the Beastmen Chieftain. Standing shoulder to shoulder, their eyes were blood-red and eerily vacant. No matter how others tried to reason with them, it was useless.
“The vampire forces have already collapsed, yet you turn around and block the Anti-Vampire Alliance! Have you been controlled?!”
The Dwarf King was so furious his beard seemed about to fly off.
The enemies before him were troublesome, but in the Dwarven dictionary, there was no such word as “retreat”!
Just as he prepared to lead the Dwarf army in a desperate fight against the Beastmen tribe and the Trolls, the madness faded from the eyes of the Beastmen Chieftain and Troll King, replaced by confusion.
“Huh? What’s… happening to me?”
The Beastmen Chieftain scratched his head in bewilderment.
“Why are we fighting our allies? This isn’t right!!” The Troll King was utterly puzzled.
The other Beastmen and Trolls lowered their weapons, returning to normal, no longer as frenzied as before.
“Hmm? Could it be that, for some reason, the control over these guys has been lifted?” The Dwarf King thought to himself. “Has something happened to the controller?”
…
“General!”
An Elven soldier brought the latest battlefield report to the Elven Grand General, Kennedy.
“The controlled Beastmen tribe and Trolls have regained their senses and stopped the infighting!”
“Oh? That’s excellent news!” Kennedy replied. “Something must have happened at the front lines. But the advantage is still on our side!”
“General, there is also shocking news, the vampire forces that had retreated are now returning. They request a halt to the battle with our Anti-Vampire Alliance, claiming a catastrophe has arisen ahead!”
“Hmm?”
Kennedy frowned.
“Such a thing?”
“General, do you think we should accept the vampires’ proposal and temporarily halt our advance?”
Kennedy’s subordinate, an Elven officer, stepped forward to inquire.
“Ha, halt? Don’t halt anything! Keep fighting, keep advancing!!”
Kennedy sneered coldly.
“This war was started by the vampires. Do they think they can stop it just because they want to? Don’t believe any talk of catastrophe, it’s just a stalling tactic by the vampires. We cannot trust them! Fight, keep fighting! Today, we must slay the Vampire Ancestor Goddess! Everyone, follow my charge!!”
