Volume 3 Chapter 192
by Need_More_SleepVolume 3 + Chapter 192: The Witch Trial
From Biden’s mouth slowly came four words, making Xia Yi feel puzzled.
The Witch Trial?
To be honest, she had never seen such a thing as a witch trial.
Even during the era of the Human Sword Saint, she had never seen it.
Generally speaking, in the human world, anyone who has contact with calamity would bear the crime of betraying humanity, be regarded as a heretic by the Templar Knights, and thus be put on trial.
If this taboo is violated, no one can protect you.
The cleansing of heretics related to calamity is basically handled by the Templar Knights, even the Human Sword Saint had never witnessed it before.
Therefore, hearing Biden say these words now still felt somewhat unexpected.
“Has the Templar Order already arrived at Laurel City?” Hill asked.
Biden shook his head. “No, the Templar Order won’t be able to arrive here any time soon.”
“Then what is this witch trial?”
“It’s something that the humans within Laurel Tree Academy wish to carry out,” Biden explained. “Because of the witch, many people lost their lives in this disaster. Now the culprit has already been defeated by the Sword Saint, the witch has lost her fighting power and has been captured. Therefore, many people hope to conduct the witch trial immediately to appease everyone’s fury.”
“Does it have to be done now?”
“This outburst of emotion cannot be suppressed. We are living beings with feelings!”
Biden clearly showed immense anger toward the witch.
“Our students—many of them died in this catastrophe! Even teachers of Laurel Tree Academy, who were just talking with us half a day ago, have now left this world! Blood debts must be paid with blood!!”
“Understood. Let’s go now.”
Hill nodded, fully expressing her understanding.
Then Biden led Hill over.
Xia Yi followed behind them.
Given the current situation, this is likely the witch’s inevitable fate.
After all, she heard that controlling mutated beasts and calamities, triggering disaster, and killing so many people—those who survived could never not seek revenge on the witch.
Perhaps the witch is doomed to die.
—
Time had already entered the night.
Xia Yi arrived at the southern side, the area where the calamity legion had first breached Laurel Tree Academy.
On the ground lay many relics of the deceased.
Those who died—almost no corpses remained now, all had been devoured by the calamity legion, leaving only the belongings on their bodies.
Many people were weeping bitterly before these relics.
Here, a huge wooden stake had been temporarily erected. On it, nailed with silver magic tools, was a young girl with long dark-purple hair—especially at the heart, where a silver cross was pierced.
She was the mastermind behind this disaster—the witch Saphia.
Saphia was tied to the wooden stake, her head drooping, completely silent, looking as though she had already stopped breathing, extremely weak.
But according to the people nearby, the trial of the witch had not yet begun.
And beneath her, firewood was piled up, already burning.
The crackling of the wood resounded, sparks flying, the orange firelight illuminating people’s faces.
The belongings of the dead were placed not far away.
Perhaps they wanted those who died in this calamity to witness the witch’s death, so their souls could rest in peace.
“Damn witch, give me back my friend, give them back to me!!!”
An emotionally unhinged student roared, picking up a stone and hurling it at the witch.
The stone struck the witch’s head, making it jerk slightly.
However, the witch was no longer human, so she wouldn’t be hurt or bleed because of this.
Xia Yi observed briefly.
Earlier, she had wounded the witch with the holy sword Gram, damaging her core.
Inside a calamity beast’s body is a core filled with calamity energy, serving as the source of its power.
As long as the core is intact, combat ability will remain. Conversely, if the calamity core is damaged, most of its power will be lost.
The witch is essentially a calamity beast. Now, the situation was that the witch Saphia had lost her fighting ability.
“Damn monster, I’ll kill you, kill you!!” That student roared hysterically, almost charging forward, weapon raised, wanting to pierce the witch’s body.
But those around stopped the student.
Yet others could hardly hold back, a riot was nearly breaking out here.
At this moment, Biden stepped forward, approaching the stake and raising his staff.
“Keep quiet! I declare—the witch trial begins now!”
Everyone fell silent, handing the role of presiding over the witch trial to Biden.
Biden questioned the witch: “Witch, I represent humanity and ask you—why did you stir up calamity on this peaceful land?! Causing countless innocent lives to perish and leaving the living in grief!”
“You really have some nerve.”
Suddenly, the witch’s cold voice sounded. She slowly lifted her head, looking at Biden, full of mockery.
“Once groveling before the great Will like rats, you inferior beings dare to so righteously proclaim yourselves victors now?”
“Watch your attitude, witch!”
Biden unleashed a magic missile, exploding on Saphia’s body.
“We humans have defeated calamity!!”
But such attacks couldn’t change the witch’s attitude.
“What does all this have to do with you? You merely survived by luck, stumbled upon someone else’s spoils, and now you start boasting, claiming victory over calamity? Ridiculous to the extreme!” the witch said coldly.
“On the brink of death and still so arrogant?”
“Won’t shed tears until you see the coffin!”
“Enough talk, Professor Biden—do it!!”
People’s attitude toward the witch grew sharper.
“Then I’ll speak plainly, all of you here are nothing but worthless trash,” the witch sneered. “The deaths of your inferior lives aren’t even enough to enter the Lord’s gaze—because you are too insignificant, utterly without value, incapable even of pleasing the Lord. Truly a pile of garbage beyond recycling.”
“You…!”
Biden was so enraged his blood pressure was about to explode.
“Trash shouldn’t exist in this world!”
The witch glanced at the relics laid on the ground.
The next second, a surge of ominous energy flew from her body, like black flames, like a beast, pouncing toward the relics of the dead—and in an instant, burned them all to ashes.
The witch’s action completely infuriated the humans present, everyone had lost control of their emotions.
“Kill her!!”
“She must die here today!!”
“Never let her go—make sure she dies without burial!!”
Even Biden couldn’t control himself anymore, anger surged in his eyes as he shouted loudly: “Execute her immediately!!”
Magic fell onto the firewood, igniting a raging blaze that engulfed the witch’s body.
The enraged humans hurled sharp weapons at her, piercing her through.
“Something… doesn’t feel right.” Xia Yi frowned.
Why would this witch provoke everyone like this?
If she truly wanted to live, she wouldn’t act this way.
A witch who believed herself far above ordinary life, now utterly reckless, lashing out so disgracefully at the humans she despised—
Wait.
Xia Yi realized something.
Anger?
She glanced around, her expression changing.
The fury being violently vented at this moment filled the entire space.
“Not good! Teacher Hill, stop everyone! This is deliberate by the witch!” Xia Yi quickly warned.
But in the flames, the witch’s lips curved into a cold smile as she sneered:
“It’s too late, inferior beings.”
