Volume 3 + Chapter 135: The Red Woman And The Dragon

From the very beginning, Xia Yi had assumed that a library open to everyone wouldn’t contain any particularly useful information. She hadn’t held much hope and was mainly there to pass the time.

Yet, she ran into the student council president, Alistair Thomas.

A casual question led to a shocking revelation.

    “Wait… what?”

Xia Yi’s eyes widened as she stared at the council president, wondering if she had misheard.

    “Dragons invaded Laurel Tree Academy?”

    Impossible.

That was the first thought that crossed Xia Yi’s mind.

If dragons had truly invaded Laurel Tree Academy, it would have caused an uproar throughout the human world—everyone would know about it.

Just look at the baseless rumors about the Silver Dragon Princess of the Dragon Realm, whom no one had even seen. People spun all sorts of absurd lies about her—

Like how the bloodthirsty Silver Dragon Princess took pleasure in slaughtering humans, leaving rivers of blood wherever she went…

And that was just about one dragon.

If dragons had invaded Laurel Tree Academy, the story would undoubtedly be twisted into something like, “The ambitious dragons sought to destroy world peace, so they invaded Laurel Tree Academy and began a massacre!”

Yet, since enrolling, she had never heard anything like that.

“Council President, lying isn’t nice,” Xia Yi said.

“Well… how should I put it?” The council president thought for a moment. “Xia Yi, have you ever heard of urban legends?”

“Urban legends? You mean, like… a transparent woman in white wandering the streets at night?”

    “Exactly!”

    The council president nodded.

“It’s that kind of thing. The dragon invasion of Laurel Tree Academy is similar in nature.”

Wait, now it’s an urban legend?!

Xia Yi felt the credibility of the story had just plummeted by half.

Still, out of curiosity, she decided to hear him out.

    “So… what happened?”

“Supposedly, it was a story from late one night three years ago—back when I hadn’t even enrolled yet…”

The council president cleared his throat, setting the mood.

“At the time, a night watchman on duty at Laurel Tree Academy spotted a red woman moving around in the forbidden central area. So he shouted, ‘Hey, woman over there—who are you?!’”

Xia Yi tried to picture the scene and shuddered.

A red woman in the dead of night…

“The red woman didn’t answer. She didn’t speak at all—just stood there, motionless, with her back to the watchman. The more he stared, the more uneasy he felt, so he started walking toward her.”

    “Then, something strange happened.”

“He saw a tail peeking out from beneath the red woman’s skirt—covered in scales!”

“At that point, the watchman panicked. He rushed forward, raised his lantern, and shone the light directly on the red woman—finally getting a clear look at her. What he saw stunned him so badly that he almost thought he was hallucinating—!!”

The council president suddenly paused, leaving the story hanging at a critical moment.

It was just like those bards who loved cutting off stories at the climax.

Xia Yi half-expected him to say, “If you want to know what happens next, tune in next time!”

    But he quickly continued.

“One moment, the watchman saw a human figure. The next, he was staring into the slitted pupils of a crimson dragon—glaring right at him. The overwhelming pressure made it hard to breathe, and he blacked out.”

“Was it really a dragon?!” Xia Yi found it hard to believe.

“The next day, people found the unconscious watchman. When he woke up, he could only recall fragments of what happened—most of his memories were gone. After an examination, doctors concluded it was due to extreme stress. Some even suggested he might have hallucinated the whole thing, since no one else had seen a dragon.”

“Later, the watchman kept insisting he saw a red dragon, but everyone assumed he was just having nightmares and mistaking them for reality. Eventually, the academy sent him to a hospital for treatment out of humanitarian concern.”

    The council president shrugged.

“Since there was no concrete evidence, the incident was never officially recorded. Very few people know about it—I only learned of it from the previous student council president.”

Xia Yi felt something was off.

This didn’t sound like an invasion. If dragons had truly come to Laurel Tree Academy, they would have caused massive destruction. This seemed more like… a sneak-in.

    Hmm?

    Wait.

    A red dragon?

Xia Yi suddenly remembered—there was a red dragon from the Dragon Realm who had visited the human world before.

    Lucia!

Lucia was from the Red Dragon Clan and had been carrying out missions in the human world under Xia Lulu’s orders.

If Xia Lulu had commanded Lucia to infiltrate the academy’s central area, then this incident made perfect sense.

    Which also meant…

Xia Lulu could have had Lucia leave the gift here too.

The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.

To outsiders, it might have just looked like a watchman losing his mind—but to Xia Yi, who knew the truth about dragons, it was clear he had seen the real thing.

    Poor guy.

“Aside from the dragon invasion, there are other interesting urban legends about Laurel Tree Academy. Want to hear them, Xia Yi?” the council president asked.

“Sure, go ahead,” Xia Yi nodded.

The next few stories the council president told were far more outlandish—

Like a piano that played itself at midnight, a little girl crying in the bathroom, and an art mannequin sprinting through the hallways…

By the fourth tale, Xia Yi decided these had zero credibility and cut him off.

“That’s… kind of scary. I don’t want to hear anymore…”

“Ahaha, don’t take it too seriously! I was just trying to lighten the mood,” the council president chuckled. “You seemed a bit down earlier, so I thought these might help.”

“By the way, Council President, I have a question.”

    “Go ahead.”

“Has there ever been a student who, after excelling in exams, requested to see the Laurel Tree?”

Xia Yi was genuinely curious—if she made such a request, would the academy find it strange and refuse her?

From the council president’s answer, it turned out she wasn’t the only one who had thought of this.

“Of course! Most students who earn rewards after exams ask for resources to improve themselves. But historically, a few have requested access to the forbidden central area to see the Laurel Tree. After all, a plant that is ancient must seem magical to ordinary people. Some probably hoped to get lucky—maybe stumble upon some earth-shattering secret or treasure that would change their lives.”

“And what happened to them?” Xia Yi pressed.

The council president fell silent for a moment before replying—

“The results… will definitely disappoint you.”
