Volume 6 Chapter 125
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 125: The Fortress
“Ugh… so tired… I don’t want to fly anymore.”
After leaving the destroyed Molent City, Xia Yi had been flying continuously while in her true dragon form.
She followed the direction indicated by the communication device. For the first three days, the red dot stayed at the edge of the area, hardly moving at all. It only started shifting on the fourth day.
By the sixth day, she was already very close to the red dot’s region.
But the consumption from flying all this way was immense. The food she had brought with her was already gone.
The little silver dragon slowly descended from the sky and lay down on the ground, not wanting to move at all.
“Heart Demon…”
“What is it?”
The sound of her heart demon’s response echoed in Xia Yi’s mind.
“I’m hungry.”
“So what if you’re hungry? Don’t you know how to go find food yourself?”
“I’m tired. You take over the body and go find food for me.”
“What? You want me to do such a boring thing?”
Heart Demon Xia Yi grew angry.
“Do you know who I am?!”
“I know, I know, you’re my opposite, the one destined to obliterate me, take my body, an extremely terrifying demon.”
“And yet you still want me to do these boring things!”
“But I’m hungry.”
“What does that have to do with me?”
“If I’m hungry, that means you’re hungry too.”
“Well…”
Heart Demon Xia Yi couldn’t really refute that logic. After all, they shared the same body.
“Even so, don’t think you can boss me around!”
Xia Yi put on a sulky kitten face. “Heart Demon, all this time you’ve been staying in the spirit world, not having to do anything…”
“Don’t lump me together with you. I’m not some lazy, good-for-nothing slacker who lies around all day! I have serious work to do, I’m studying swordsmanship!” Heart Demon Xia Yi retorted.
“But all this time, I’ve been the one doing the flying, right?”
“Ugh…” Heart Demon Xia Yi was left speechless.
“So, is it too much to ask that I rest a little while you go find some food?” Xia Yi launched a verbal offensive. “Heart Demon, please~ help me out~”
“Fine, fine. You’re impossible.”
Heart Demon Xia Yi sighed. She reluctantly agreed.
“Hehe, then I’m going to sleep!” Xia Yi handed control of the body to her heart demon and drifted off.
Heart Demon Xia Yi took over the body and felt an overwhelming wave of fatigue and hunger.
She shifted into human form and began searching the surrounding area for something to eat.
“Alright, let’s find some food first.”
…
At Night.
Heart Demon Xia Yi sat before a campfire, holding a branch skewered with chunks of meat over the flames.
Unlike Xia Yi, she had no cooking skills. She had simply hunted a beast, killed it, cut off what she thought was edible meat, and put it over the fire to roast, planning to eat it just like that to regain her strength.
Her silver eyes reflected the quiet, flickering firelight.
At that moment, Heart Demon Xia Yi fell into deep thought, her mind wandering.
“A wish…”
Actually, some time ago, Xia Yi had asked her about her wish. She already had an answer in her heart, but she hadn’t said it directly.
Yet she also felt that such a wish would contradict the meaning of her existence.
She was a heart demon, after all, born with the purpose of replacing the original personality, erasing her, and making herself the sole true owner.
If her wish went against that, wouldn’t it be a denial of her very self?
How annoying.
Heart Demon Xia Yi felt she had hit a dead end. She lowered her head.
After a while, she smelled something burning. Realizing trouble, she quickly pulled the branch back.
The meat was completely charred.
“Sigh, whatever. I’ll just eat it as is. It’s still better than eating it raw…”
Heart Demon Xia Yi bit into the meat with resignation.
It was truly awful.
…
“Mmm~ ah~”
Xia Yi stretched lazily, felt the warm sunlight, and opened her eyes.
She sat up and saw the burned-out campfire in front of her, along with food scraps on the ground. She could roughly infer what had happened.
Due to mental exhaustion, she had slept for a long time. During that time, her heart demon had indeed gone to find food, eaten, and rested well. Both hunger and fatigue had been effectively alleviated.
“Heart Demon, thank you~”
Xia Yi said this to her heart demon.
But Heart Demon Xia Yi didn’t reply, perhaps she was resting.
“Alright, time to keep moving!”
Xia Yi stood up again, took out the communication device, and checked her position. Realizing she wasn’t far from the target city, she decided to go on foot.
If she flew too close, she would surely be spotted. No matter what, she didn’t want anyone else to see her true dragon form, that was her bottom line!
The silver dragon loli walked forward step by step. After traveling for a while, her field of vision changed.
Before her appeared an unbroken stretch of massive walls.
These were not like the walls of an ordinary city. They were extremely tall, several times larger than Molent City. Without flying high in the sky, it was impossible to see inside. The defenses were extremely tight.
There were no signs of human activity ahead, and the walls, unlike Molent City, had no obvious entrances or exits.
“What… kind of city is this? It seems the other Envoys said the meeting place is here.”
Just as Xia Yi was feeling puzzled, she heard movement behind her.
Turning around, she saw a vehicle pulled by a magical beast moving quickly toward the wall.
The people on the vehicle spotted Xia Yi. Very surprised, they stopped beside her.
“Whose kid is this?”
“Little sister, what’s going on? A yellow-level alert has been issued, and you’re still wandering outside the fortress?”
“Huh, a dragon? You didn’t sneak out to play, did you?”
There were several people in the vehicle, all of different races, humans, elves, catfolks… they looked like members of a team.
“No time to worry about that, get on!”
A cat girl immediately pulled the bewildered Xia Yi into the vehicle and ordered the magical beast to start running again.
“ROOOAR!”
The moment the vehicle moved, Xia Yi heard a wild, bestial roar. She leaned half her body out to look behind her and was stunned.
Calamity Beasts!
Many Calamity Beasts were running behind them, their fierce eyes fixed on the vehicle in pursuit.
No wonder the people on the vehicle had been so anxious earlier, this was a dangerous situation.
The vehicle sped at high speed, approached the enormous wall, and an entrance opened, allowing the vehicle to rush inside.
The next moment, the entrance closed. The Calamity Beasts outside slammed into the wall, producing a series of dull thuds, followed by furious howls.
Everyone in the vehicle breathed a sigh of relief.
“Phew, we’re finally back. That was close, we almost got caught.” The cat girl was visibly relieved.
“Back… where?” Xia Yi asked tentatively.
“Where else?” the cat girl laughed. “The defense line against the Calamity Beasts, the Maginot Fortress, of course!”

I like the relationship between Xia Yi and her Heart Demon lately. Its sweet.
