Volume 6 + Chapter 124: The World Tree of The Mythic Age

The Crimson Empire.

“Did the World Tree appear here overnight?”

“Yes, Your Majesty the Queen.”

The vampire princess Flora bowed her head to the queen ruling the Crimson Empire, Miu Miu Borgia, as a sign of respect.

“Your Majesty, we can confirm that as of yesterday, there was no World Tree here.”

Not long ago, the dragon race had dispatched troops to the Crimson Empire, where they had stationed themselves and brought a large amount of financial aid to assist the empire.

Miu Miu, the current vampire queen, had been working tirelessly on post-war national reconstruction with the help of the dragons.

She should have been in the vampire royal palace, handling daily administrative affairs, but instead she received shocking news. A World Tree had appeared within the Crimson Empire’s territory.

When she first heard the report, she found it utterly absurd. How could such an incredible plant as the World Tree appear in a single night?

Anyone who heard it would think it was nothing more than a fanciful delusion.

But when the vampire princess Flora came personally to report, Miu Miu could no longer sit still.

Determined to verify the truth, she set aside her work and traveled to the area mentioned in the report, where she saw the legendary divine tree.

A colossal timber stood on the earth, nearly a hundred meters tall ,  like a mountain range, casting a vast shadow that covered the hills below.

This could absolutely not be a tree that had grown normally.

“Your Majesty, is that the World Tree?” Flora asked.

“…There’s no mistake. That is the World Tree.”

Miu Miu’s soul had once been stored inside a World Tree seed, so she could sense in a mysterious way that this was indeed the World Tree.

“Why would a World Tree suddenly sprout? Could it be that the heavens are favoring us vampires?”

“Your Majesty, regarding that point…” Flora hesitated.

“Speak freely, Flora.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. It’s like this… Although there has been no official announcement, according to our vampires’ intelligence channels, it is said that World Trees have also appeared within the borders of other countries ,  both common species and higher species alike, just like in our Crimson Empire.”

“What?”

Miu Miu was stunned. She wondered if she had misheard.

Was the World Tree some kind of common cabbage?

The most plausible rumor currently circulating across the land was that there was a World Tree inside the Elf Kingdom.

That alone had already made many nations envious.

And now, every country has… one each?

“Your Majesty, what should we do next?” Flora asked.

“Seal off the area. Until we have thoroughly investigated, do not let anyone approach the World Tree casually,” Miu Miu commanded. “Carry this out immediately.”

“Understood, Your Majesty.”

Flora acknowledged and left to execute the order.

Miu Miu stood still, gazing at the World Tree in the distance, lost in thought.

After a long while, she spoke, calling out a name.

“Grandmother Elizabeth, what is going on?”

“…How many times have I told you? Don’t call me grandmother!” Elizabeth complained.

“Alright, Grandmother Elizabeth, I understand.”

“I’m really fed up with you…”

Elizabeth was very displeased.

She was currently in a soul-fragment state, able to reside within Miu Miu’s body only because Miu Miu allowed it.

“Grandmother Elizabeth, aren’t you the vampire progenitor from the Mythic Age? You must be well-versed in the world and know about the World Tree, right?”

“Of course I know. The World Tree existed in the Mythic Age.”

“Have you seen it, Grandmother Elizabeth?”

“…Strictly speaking, I haven’t, but the vampire kings several generations before me did. It was an immensely grand World Tree, enormous in scale, with underground roots that could spread to every corner of this land.”

“So it’s not just a legend, it’s real?”

“Yes. However, the World Tree was destroyed in a war of great impact. That war probably has no records now, but all the higher species participated.”

“Was it initiated by… the dragons?” Miu Miu guessed.

“You guessed right. But that war wasn’t against the dragons, it was against the demon race.”

“The demon race, of all things?” Miu Miu was somewhat surprised.

The demon race was a peculiar and mysterious race on this land.

Unlike the dragons, who always stayed in their own country, the demons, as higher species, came and went without a trace, their movements erratic.

They were passionate about signing various contracts with other races, receiving compensation through these contracts, perhaps money, perhaps physical bodies, or even souls.

“It started as a conflict between the dragons and the demon race. But the demons had provoked too many higher species. Other higher species joined the war one after another, wanting to annihilate the demons. Faced with a siege by many higher species, the demon race was nearly wiped out. At that point, they did something unprecedented and utterly insane.”

“Could it be…?” Miu Miu thought of a possibility.

“Exactly. The demon race burned down the World Tree. This brought a tremendous disaster to the land, impacting every higher species and even the common species. Amidst the catastrophe, the demon race managed to escape. They abandoned their original homeland, scattered across the world, and continued their bloodline.”

Elizabeth narrated this past event calmly.

“After the land lost the World Tree, it took nearly ten thousand years to recover its vitality. In my active era, there was no World Tree as magnificent as that anymore.”

“Grandmother Elizabeth, has there ever been a phenomenon where a World Tree grows overnight?” Miu Miu was very puzzled.

“Never in the past. Because the World Tree’s growth is extremely time-consuming. You’ve experienced the World Tree’s seed yourself and know how staggering the numbers are. For a tree of this scale, from seed to full growth would take over a hundred thousand years.”

“Yet… such a World Tree has indeed appeared, and not just in our vampires’ country.”

“This is definitely not a good thing… If I have to explain it, I can only think of one possibility.”

“What possibility?”

“Divine power.”
