Chapter 92: The Strange Illness
by WuWangChapter 92: The Strange Illness
“Cough, Sir John! Don’t misunderstand!” Kate quickly stood up and explained: “Mr. Louis and Miss Helen are my good friends. They are about to film a new movie recently. Upon hearing that you esteemed gentlemen were coming to exorcise demons, they came here specially to observe and learn. But to catch the train, they didn’t have time to change out of their costumes!”
The several Divine Officials glanced at each other. Archbishop Bishop John suddenly drank several gulps of water, swallowing that breath down.
Then, after wiping his beard, he craned his neck and cautiously asked Kate a question: “So… this ‘Saint Anthony’ and ‘The First Generation Pope, Your Majesty Alya’ are… from the Trif Movie Dream Factory?”
“That’s right, Sir John. Indeed they are, heh, heh heh heh.” As she spoke, Kate nudged Louis twice.
The corner of Louis’s eye twitched. He finally understood what these clothes were—they were the attire of ancient great sages, the kind of ‘white robes’ that Saint Anthony and the First Pope wore during ceremonies!
With his and Helen’s outfits, they were only missing a hat and a scepter to complete the look!
It seemed Trif planned to film this movie recently—and the costume preparation was quite professional…
That good-for-nothing leech! A leech of the Ministry of Magic! A disgrace to wizards!
Nothing in this office was used for official work!
They were all movie props!
Fortunately, Miss Kate was quick-witted, otherwise those old men might have taken turns charging at me with their great staves, looking for trouble.
What if I accidentally knocked them over? What then?
Louis secretly wiped off a cold sweat and let out a sigh. Then, under the squinting surveillance of the ‘Archmage’ Divine Officials, he and Helen quickly took out a notebook and pen from their sleeves, forced out smiles, and pretended to take notes.
The many Archmage Divine Officials glanced at the ‘Magic Notes’ full of incantation text in the two’s hands, looked at each other, and nodded one after another.
To be fair, the props from Trif Movie Dream Factory were really professional! That’s the kind of stuff we usually use.
Over here, Louis and the ‘Archmages’ almost got into a fight, while over there, the grandly talking Archmages also almost started fighting among themselves.
Several of the stocking-wearing Mages believed there was no magic in this world, and the Divine Officials nodded in agreement. There was also one ‘Priest’ wearing splendid archmage robes who couldn’t help but agree that there was no magic in this world.
This caused an uproar among the Mages.
It was as if, they could say there was no magic in this world.
But others couldn’t.
“Gentlemen, I think you might have misunderstood. What we mean is that magic is disappearing from this world—but it still exists.” The young man in red stockings, with a grave expression, stepped forward. He bowed to everyone, then rolled up his sleeves and began searching through a spellbook on the table. He seemed intent on showing off his skills.
Louis couldn’t help but feel a slight stir. He strongly agreed with this man’s viewpoint!
If things continued like this, the magic in this world might have to rely on those Divine Officials to pass it down!
Thinking this, Louis couldn’t help but glance again at the Divine Officials over there.
What exactly did Mr. Anthony leave for these Divine Officials?
Louis couldn’t help but recall the few special magics he saw in the Moon Goddess holy scripture in the office—Holy Magic and Light Magic.
Presumably, these were things Anthony specially left for his descendants by referencing the Moon Goddess’s divine arts—not putting all eggs in one basket.
“Louis, he seems like he’s going to use magic. Won’t he be punished by the Ministry of Magic…” Helen worried for the red-stockinged man.
“What this young lady says is true. According to the rules of the ‘Magic Enthusiasts Association,’ using magic in public is punishable.” The red-stockinged gentleman said with a smile, but then changed his tone, giving a slight bow to Kate and Helen, and laughed: “However, for the sake of you two ladies, I am willing to make an exception this time.”
This gentleman seemed quite chivalrous.
Having said that, he tore a piece of paper and began a lengthy incantation. After a long time, the Archmage gentleman was sweating profusely, and the piece of paper finally slowly floated up two centimeters.
“It’s over.” The red-stockinged gentleman wiped his sweat and said.
Seeing this scene, the other two Mages were dumbfounded. After carefully examining it, they solemnly said to everyone: “Gentlemen, let us applaud Mr. ‘Ron’! He has proven that magic exists in this world!”
Miss Kate’s face turned red with excitement, her expression full of—Sir Ron is indeed the most powerful Archmage.
It seemed her own applause wasn’t enough. She stood up and led the servants in the hall to applaud as well.
At this moment, everyone’s eyes looking at the red-stockinged gentleman were full of admiration. Only Louis and Helen stood there frozen. This made Miss Kate frown slightly, feeling a bit displeased—these small-time Priests with high standards but low ability, who don’t know how to show respect at all.
Helen stared blankly at Louis, like a dumb goose, not knowing what to say.
“Helen, didn’t you notice? That was the floating spell of the Holy Icon Tree, but it was altered… probably a spell text deliberately released by the Ministry of Magic. Originally, this magic spell couldn’t be used, but he corrected some of it, and didn’t even use a wand…”
Louis shook his head.
“Louis… they, they aren’t planning to rely on this little trick to deal with that thing, are they? That door over there seems to have a very scary big thing inside.” Helen looked fearfully towards the large door at the other end of the hall.
Louis fell into thought. He also didn’t know why these three people came here.
[But there must be a reason behind it…]
Louis shook his head again. He had a guess in his heart, but didn’t know how to tell Helen—because it might be too mind-blowing for her worldview.
He quietly used a spell to make Stuart lose his presence. Then he said: “Stuart, keep an eye on Helen later.”
[As you command]
After these words were spoken, an old man wearing a tall hat appeared beside Helen. Besides the master and Helen, no one else seemed able to see it. But at this moment, Stuart’s attention was not on his master. As soon as he appeared, he looked with a grave expression towards the large door Helen had just looked at.
‘Stuart, you just watch over Helen. As for those ‘Archmages’…’
Louis took a sip of tea, glanced at the several ‘Divine Officials’ over there, then couldn’t help but rub his face hard.
Those ‘Archmage Divine Officials’ were now acting like country folks who had just entered the city, gathering around the floating piece of paper, marveling and looking shocked. They seemed never to have imagined that magic really existed in this world.
‘Archmages! You’re the only ones in this whole room who know a bit of magic! You all use magic yourselves! No matter how low your skill level, it’s still magic! At Holy Icon Tree, you’d all definitely be professor-level wizards!’
‘Wake up already! Stop deceiving yourselves, okay!’
The Archmage Divine Officials were there marveling, praising the wonder of magic. They flattered the skill level of the three Archmages.
And at that moment, a light but very firm round of applause also sounded from the doorway.
The applause wasn’t loud, but when it echoed through the entire hall, it caught everyone’s attention.
“Thank you for the wonderful demonstration by Archmages Bach, Ron, and Fermi. And thank you to Bishop John and all the Divine Officials and Knights for coming from afar to visit my humble home. My daughter’s hospitality has been lacking; please forgive us.”
Now at the entrance to the hall stood a majestic-looking middle-aged man. Under his arm was a captain’s hat adorned with wheat ears, and he wore a double-breasted navy admiral’s uniform—the chest of the uniform was covered with medals, speaking of this man’s illustrious achievements.
Additionally, he leaned on a walking stick; his leg seemed a bit lame—this was probably the reason Kate mentioned for her father’s recuperation leave.
Of course, a troubled heart was also a major cause.
[Earl Crowley was deeply worried—Mr. Harold was right after all, his wife would eventually ‘wake up’!]
[‘It’s all my fault… all my fault… I shouldn’t have been like this…’]
[The Countess fell ill early on, like a plant, bedridden. The Earl, who deeply loved his wife, searched everywhere for scholars, invited priests from all over, but failed to cure his wife’s illness.]
[Until a Mysterious Man paid a visit.]
[The wife gradually regained her vitality, and her eyes could move. But she couldn’t speak, and couldn’t let her husband know that she had forgiven him.]
[Regardless, the Earl could finally see his wife’s smile. The Earl began claiming illness and pleaded with His Majesty to relieve him of his position as Governor. He returned home to take care of his beloved.]
[The Earl returned home and cared for his wife. The wife’s health gradually improved.]
[But no one could have imagined that this story would not have a fortunate ending… One day, the wife had her first episode.]
[Fortunately, a certain Magician who called himself a magician temporarily ‘cured’ (suppressed) the ‘illness.’ After that cure, he told the Earl that his wife had actually been dead for many years and had become a demon. He advised the Earl to have his wife cremated and laid to rest as soon as possible.]
[Dead… demon… rest… This enraged the Earl. His wife was clearly a living person. How could she be called a demon? And how could she be cremated?]
[Damn Dark Wizard! He is a liar!]
[The kind-hearted Magician was wanted by the Kingdom of Sorrento and fled far away.]
[And Lady Crowley also began to become stranger and stranger…]
[Or rather, Lady Crowley now could no longer be described as just strange…]
[Now, Crowley knew his mistake and was filled with regret.]
[Perhaps his wife could no longer be saved, and in recent years, no one had the ability to let Lady Crowley ‘rest in peace’…]
[The deadline mentioned by the Magician had arrived. The Bishop came specially from the Lunar Court from afar. The three Mages, hearing of this matter, also came specially to assist.]
[Earl Crowley knew that the only chance to completely free his wife was now before him.]
[Everything should come to an end today!]
