Chapter 111: All for One, One for All
by WuWangChapter 111: All for One, One for All
After looking over the options, Louis snapped back to reality.
The duel was going to take place at the ‘Stogg Dragon Colosseum’. To prevent any accidents from the Muggles’ little steel toys, and also to stop the Witch Queen from stirring up trouble, the Agents from the Ministry of Magic were going to do some things.
Inspector Jerry and his team’s task was one of them.
“The Ministry of Magic people need to sit in the most suitable spots in the stands. They want to secretly use Magic Spells during the match. But Ministry officials found they couldn’t act easily from where the nobles and ministers sit. Besides the ministers and nobles, the people with the most qualifications and status to sit in those good spots are the Muggles’ Mages… Our visit this time is to pave the way for the follow-up personnel. Many Agents will temporarily join the Mage Association soon. After the birthday banquet, everyone will leave.”
Louis’s expression suddenly turned a bit odd.
The Witch Queen definitely allowed this to happen. She wanted the Wizards to cause trouble.
But the funny thing was, Wizards looked down on Muggle magic enthusiasts like Ron and Bach. Yet, in the end, they had to borrow their noble status to qualify for seats in the stands.
“The Ministry’s bigwigs find this very ironic, sir,” Jerry suddenly said with a sharp laugh. “According to Muggle law, anyone certified by the Mage Association is a Mage. So even if the Witch Queen and the King know the newcomers are Wizards, they can only watch. So those Ministry bigwigs think it’s very ironic that the Mage Association, which the Muggles worked so hard to build, is being used by Wizards. That’s why the Ministry’s bigwigs are laughing heartily.”
“Very ironic,” Louis said, taking a sip of tea and shaking his head. Many of the other Agents also couldn’t help shaking their heads.
“Let’s talk about something serious, boss,” Inspector Jerry suddenly put down his teacup, looking serious. “Which side are you on?”
【Jerry and the others came to pave the way for Ministry officials, but they ask you which side you’re on…】
【Just as you heard, the Reformists have always hoped Magic could return to the prosperity of the previous Witch Queen’s era.】
【But this time, the Reformists probably can’t do much—after all, there are too few of them. Even if they try their hardest, they can’t help the Muggles much, and they dare not openly oppose the Great Family Nobles. Doing things in secret would probably be meaningless.】
【Therefore, they won’t go easy on the Muggles this time. And in the eyes of many Reformists, losing might not be bad. After all, turning the Parliament Building into Ministry of Magic territory is a great thing—after that, the Reformists would definitely be able to operate more in the Muggle World.】
【Of course, if that happens, in the future when everyone operates in Englen City, they will be completely under the Ministry’s supervision. And within the Ministry branch in Englen City, there probably won’t be many positions for Reformists, since this would be a big victory for the conservatives.】
【So it’s not perfect at all.】
“Jerry, I think which side one stands on is not important,” Louis said calmly, taking another sip of tea.
Jerry and the others exchanged glances. “Sir, what do you mean?”
“Jerry, it doesn’t matter who wins, whether it’s the Wizards or the King. It’s meaningless,” Louis put down his teacup and stood up. “If the King wins, sure, some people might get into the Royal Court, and some nobles will enter the academies. But it’s the Muggles’ royal family and nobles who will learn. This just creates another group of Wizard Great Noble Families. It doesn’t promote real Magic reform—Wizards at the bottom still can’t learn real Magic knowledge.”
“And if the Kings lose, the Ministry of Magic will move into the Parliament Building, allowing them to officially operate in the Kingdom of Sorrento. But their job will be to fully supervise the Kingdom of Sorrento, closing the last entrance for folk Wizards into the Muggle World. They will completely cut off the connection between Wizards and the outside world—the Ministry will have more control over the Muggle World, the interests and power of the old Magic nobles will grow—the class divide will become even more unbreakable.”
Jerry and the others’ eyes suddenly looked a bit downcast. Indeed, no matter who lost or won, the Reformists would suffer a heavy blow. Things would get worse. Future obstacles to reform would become greater.
“Jerry, don’t you want to stay in the Mage Association?” Louis said. “Like decades ago. Wizards used the Mage Association as a window to go out into the real world and see the sights.”
“Of course I do!” Jerry said, getting a bit excited. Most Reformists came from the era when the Mage Association was thriving. Many used to be part of the Mage Association. If the Reformists could reclaim the Mage Association as their base, the future would hold great promise.
“But the obstacles are too big,” Jerry suddenly became dejected again. “It’s not easy to get the old bill reinstated. We’ve been pushing for this law, but it has never passed.”
Louis sipped his tea quietly without saying much. He already had a plan in mind.
But after a moment of silence, Jerry’s eyes gleamed as he looked at Louis—this person before him was absolutely the best pilot for the Son of Lant!
“However, sir, it might be possible to get the Council’s bill passed—first, the Muggles have to win. The Ministry of Magic would never agree to let Muggles study at the various academies. So this bet will eventually come back to the negotiation table. Therefore, if there are some big fixers mediating between the Ministry of Magic and the Kingdom of Sorrento, making both sides compromise, and then the Reformists push the Mage Association-related bill a bit, it could succeed!”
【Perhaps you can truly accomplish A+B…】
【Things are starting to develop in a strange direction…】
Louis put down his teacup and thought to himself: ‘Jerry, neither of them will win. But you are right, this matter will eventually be settled at a negotiation table, where everyone will have to step back and reach a result that the King can only accept and the Ministry can only accept.’
‘And the Mage Association will become a new branch office.’
‘That’s the “all for one, one for all” way.’ Louis smiled.
‘I’ll find some big lobbyists to act as intermediaries between the Wizards and Muggles.’
The most suitable lobbyists were undoubtedly those capitalists who had business in both the Wizard and Muggle worlds.
Louis suddenly glanced out the window. Outside, there were some car cleaners polishing his Vintage Car—among them were two Wizards. As for those Yordle car-watcher throat-cutters, who knows where they were tied up.
Those nasty guys probably got the message that I handled the Manor affair.
And certain people have been wanting to meet me for a while.
Louis glanced down at the street outside the window and saw several taxis parked there—these taxis usually stayed in wealthy neighborhoods. They didn’t pick up ordinary people.
The old guys from the Mage Association certainly had the money to ride these taxis, but those traditionalist types didn’t really like taking cars.
Also, the street was much ‘cleaner’ now than before. The throat-cutters and mercenaries were mostly gone. There were many men in long black coats on the street now, their coats bulging as if they carried Chicago typewriters.
【The Italian ‘Stogg Group’: the world’s most notorious group, dealing in loans, employment, competitions, mercenary training, smuggling, and other businesses. They’re famous not only in mercenary circles, but several affiliated forces are also this world’s mafia. They operate in both Wizard and Muggle worlds, serving as the top brass’s professional ‘black gloves’. Many people tremble at the mention of their name.】
Seeing that Louis hadn’t spoken for a while, Jerry couldn’t help but cough.
“Ahem, sir, was something wrong with what I just said?”
According to Jerry’s knowledge, the recently vacated Three of Hearts card was taken by some big fixer. And as for who could fight that thing in the arena, aside from that somewhat scary kid in the Magic Prison, it would be this ‘War God Louis VI’ right here.
Louis didn’t answer Jerry. Instead, he glanced at his pocket watch—it was already past three in the afternoon.
“Jerry, I bet my car is broken.”
Jerry and the others were a bit confused, not sure what Louis meant.
“Looks like someone plans to buy me a car,” Louis cursed inwardly. Those Goblins definitely needed a lesson—such a good car, and you just broke it?
Hearing about buying a car, Jerry and the others blinked.
“Let’s go, we’ll check out the auto show. We’ll have dinner together tonight,” Louis smiled, put away his pocket watch, and walked towards Kate.
Jerry and the others were speechless. They looked at each other, feeling a bit disappointed. It seemed their boss wasn’t planning to get involved in this trouble—and it was true, trying to change that Magic Council bill was just too difficult.
‘Take it one step at a time…’ Jerry shook his head and followed Louis.
When Kate saw Louis and the others approaching, she smiled and stood up. Holding Helen, she said to Louis, “Louis, I just called Ocris. She’ll arrive tomorrow morning. I’ve booked rooms and a restaurant spot at the Sorrento Royal Hotel. The food there is very good, and it’s close to the Train Station and the exhibition. After the exhibition, we can go straight there.”
Saying this, Kate’s face turned slightly red—Ocris was arriving tomorrow, so she probably wouldn’t have time to be intimate with Louis.
They would definitely have to stay out tonight. That big hotel’s stuff was indeed good, at least that’s what the butler said.
Hearing about food, Helen’s eyes couldn’t help but light up.
But the little Yordles all opened their mouths slightly and looked at their boss—dinner, going to an auto show.
[Boss, I know you’re good at relying on others…]
[But you don’t have to show off so much…]
【Clearly, Jerry and the others have misunderstood somewhat.】
Louis rubbed his face.
‘That’s not what I meant!’
