Chapter 89: Who Says I’m Not a Priest?

The vehicle finally came to a stop early on the country road.

As soon as the car stopped, the driver, Jim, kicked open the car door, covered his mouth, and ran into the field to vomit.

Miss Kate was also drenched in sweat, her face flushed. She stared blankly at the cotton fields outside the window, as if she hadn’t recovered yet.

Seeing this scene, Louis and Helen exchanged a glance, chuckled quietly to themselves, got out of the car, and stretched their legs.

It was called a country road, but it was flat and wide. From the look of the standardized mileposts, they were likely all built by the kingdom’s government. It seemed His Majesty the King Ignatius had been doing a lot of proper work these years.

This was already considered the territory of Earl Crowley. Fields stretched as far as the eye could see. On the distant horizon, one could vaguely make out some farmhouses and windmills.

The fields nearby were mainly cotton fields. In the fields, many people dressed in rough clothes were picking cotton, but most of them seemed to be outsiders, and predominantly women. After all, most of the able-bodied men from their families were hired workers in Earl Crowley’s various factories. They had no time for farm work.

Compared to the outsiders at the academy, these women looked more withered, darker, and older.

It was unclear whether they were freemen, slaves, or serfs, and which of these fields, if any, belonged to them. But smiles were on all their faces. Some were curiously looking towards the vehicle, and many children were playing among the paths.

A few strong human men wearing short tunics and equipped with short swords and flintlock pistols came walking around a corner, cracking melon seeds. They looked like they were patrolling the fields. A small Yordle jumped onto the head of one of the human men, snatched some seeds from the guard’s hand, then curiously pointed towards the car.

The guards looked over, recognized the vehicle, knew it was guests picked up by the young lady, and smiled, performing a noble salute towards Louis. From the standard etiquette, they were probably household knights of Lord Crowley. In the territory, they likely served as sheriffs.

Louis couldn’t help but look again at those outsiders.

He had often heard that outsiders were continuously joining the Wizarding World, taken in by various wizarding factions.

But it seemed more outsiders were entering the ordinary world.

The Age of Discovery had reached its peak, and in recent years, various kingdoms had been exploring and expanding outward.

The Kingdom of Sorrento was one of the most powerful among them.

As these kingdoms expanded their overseas colonies, more and more laborers flooded into the cities from all over the world. Some would enter factories, others would find other livelihoods in the cities. Most of the rest would be settled by the lords.

Everyone could find a job, because labor was short everywhere—in cities, factories, and the constant construction of new buildings. The lands of the noble lords were also continuously growing.

The world seemed to be completely ruled by humans. Outsiders had become vassals and integrated into society.

It was a peaceful and wonderful era. Or rather, blood no longer flowed on the mainland—it flowed at sea and on those new continents and mysterious regions.

A soft sound of footsteps came from behind. Louis turned and found that Miss Kate had gotten out of the car at some point. In the gentle breeze, she brushed her hair aside and walked over.

“Sorry, Mr. Louis,” Miss Kate said with some apology on her face. “I don’t know what’s wrong with this car. Jim just checked it yesterday, but it seems there was a problem…”

“No need to apologize, Miss Kate,” Louis said calmly, nodding. He picked up his pipe and said, “We’ve seen plenty of strange things.”

Helen: [Louis is such a big liar! He’s the one who caused the trouble, and now he’s acting innocent!]

After hearing Louis’s words, Miss Kate was speechless. Today’s events were indeed very strange. It reminded her of all the weird things that had been happening at the Manor recently.

She brushed the hair from her eyes and couldn’t help but look up again at this tall, steady man. Even Jim was terrified today, but these two guests were extremely calm. They really did seem like they had seen many strange things.

Perhaps he really had seen a lot. At this moment, Kate actually felt a bit more confidence in him.

Just then, the driver Jim also returned. He shouted that it was definitely not his or the car’s fault. After checking, he found the car indeed had no issues.

“Tomorrow, let’s ask Bishop John to take a good look,” Jim said, closing the hood. His face was pale, as if he’d seen a ghost. “Maybe we should perform an exorcism or sprinkle some holy water or something.”

Before he finished speaking, the car body slowly began to glow with a soft light.

Kate and driver Jim widened their eyes, staring dumbfounded at Louis, who was holding a holy book and praying.

This young man really was a clergyman!

Kate, a devout believer of the Moon Goddess, was now blushing, feeling both ashamed and nervous. She couldn’t help but clasp her hands together and began praying towards Louis.

After a moment of stunned silence, the driver hurriedly imitated her, starting to pray as well, while also sneaking glances at Louis and muttering a few confessions—Fak! What a lack of perception today! This young man really was a proper clergyman!

Helen was dumbfounded: [Huh? What magic is this? Is it the Lumos spell? It must be! Can you fool people like this? Louis is such a big liar!]

“It’s alright now, Miss Kate,” Louis said. He sprinkled a bit of a drink often consumed by wizards—’Clear Spirit Water’—onto Kate, then reached out and tapped her forehead.

Kate instantly felt refreshed and clear-headed, which left her greatly astonished.

    Wasn’t this holy water?

    She had really misjudged him!

Who would have thought these two young people were not only truly clergy, but this tall, handsome young man was actually a priest who could obtain holy water—maybe even a head priest!

But anyone looking at him would think he was a conman, right?

If Bishop John saw him, he might just hit him over the head with his Scepter until he bled…

Hearing Miss Kate’s thoughts, Louis couldn’t help but frown. He checked his and Helen’s attire once more—it was quite plain!

There were some faint divine patterns, but nothing flashy at all!

In his impression, priests, ministers—from any sect—were plain-looking!

Could it be that the level of this clothing seemed too low?

Was it the attire of a novice priest?

Wearing these clothes, it was indeed hard to avoid suspicion.

But that didn’t matter; it wouldn’t hinder his work. He could just explain that these were his old clothes and he grabbed the wrong ones in a hurry today.

After all, the ‘priests’ (Agents) from Sacred Tree Theological College caused all sorts of mischief outside—some even made movies! His bit of mischief wouldn’t stand out.

Even if things escalated, it didn’t matter. He could just have Stuart clean up the mess later.

As for the clients doubting his identity—in a worst-case scenario, he could just drop Ocris’s name. Didn’t all the Muggles think she was teaching at Sacred Tree Theological College?

Saying he was her colleague should be credible, right?

That made his identity as a head priest flawless.

Many head priests who often worked outside were highly skilled—like himself.

The Divine Officials of Sacred Tree Theological College were also very capable—like himself.

Thinking this, Louis and Helen exchanged a glance—they understood each other perfectly, instantly grasping each other’s meaning.

    [Right, bring out sister’s name!]

    Louis felt assured.

    So did Helen.

Only Kate was still staring at the two of them in a daze.
