Chapter 40: Why Is This Kid Like This!
by WuWangChapter 40: Why Is This Kid Like This!
After the agreement was signed, to prevent Louis from changing his mind, Ocris snatched the parchment from Louis’s hands and burned it right away to stop anyone from cheating or undoing the spell later.
Then, she looked at Louis with a smile, thinking to herself—don’t blame Your Highness for treating you like a Eunuch later!
Helen also looked at Louis smugly, ready to enjoy the show.
Over the next few days, Ocris, that prideful ‘lady,’ actually gave Louis and the others proper Apparition lessons.
Not only that, she acted as if she would beat Louis up if he didn’t learn it.
This teacher pretended to have a teacher’s manner but always glared at Louis, made up reasons to pick on him, and even wanted to hit him with her Wand as a pointer.
Soon, that ‘low-EQ bookworm who read too much’ pointed it out directly: “Teacher, are you still holding a grudge about that thing? Picking on me deliberately? You’re way too petty!”
If it were the thick-skinned Helen, after hearing those words, she would have just laughed and kept making trouble for Louis.
But for Ocris, it became a soul-shaking triple question! Her face flushed red instantly.
With such thin skin?
And you keep thinking of making me a Eunuch? You’ll be the maid yourself!
In the next seven days, Louis played along with them happily. During every Apparition lesson, he asked some ‘silly’ questions.
“Teacher, this morning I was reading a book while eating a sandwich, and guess what happened?” Louis said mysteriously to Ocris and Helen. “Before I knew it, the sandwich was gone!~ Hey, teacher, why do you think that happened?”
“Teacher, at lunch today, the cafeteria had beef! I ran there on time, and the Goblins behind couldn’t catch up. When I was going downstairs, guess what?” Louis rubbed his front teeth, which he had just fixed with a Magic Spell, and teased their curiosity. “I actually tripped!~ Hey, teacher, why do you think that happened?”
These weird, absurd questions got more and more ridiculous.
At first, Ocris tried to keep a straight face, but later she couldn’t hold back anymore. Every time, she had to turn away to laugh, or else…
“Sorry, I need to pick up my pen.”
As for Helen, she was laughing like crazy. Later, Helen took it too far by writing all Louis’s stories into her Magic Notes, turning them into jokes to tease him for fun.
“Louis, one day, I’ll write a book of jokes with you as the main character!” Helen bit her pen and winked.
“Helen, how could you write all this down!” Ocris said sternly, confiscated the notes, kept the class in order, and pretended to be a good teacher, making the pouty Helen apologize to the unhappy Louis.
But that night, after Ocris took a bath and was bored in bed, she grabbed those jokes under the excuse of checking Helen’s homework. She muttered to herself and then read them.
But as she laughed and laughed, she suddenly stopped smiling.
She realized that the silly questions Louis asked were getting stranger and more professional, and some even matched what she had faced before.
She counted the days, sat up quickly, and checked Louis’s recent homework. She carefully compared them to the questions Louis had asked.
Then, her heart dropped with a thud.
On the fifth day, Louis continued to ask silly questions. But this time, Ocris didn’t laugh; instead, she looked horrified, like she had seen a ghost.
On the sixth day, Helen couldn’t laugh either. She listened to those questions with her mouth open.
Because she was starting to face the same issues.
She suspected Louis was progressing faster than her.
Today was the tenth day since Ocris started tutoring and the sixth day of the bet. Yesterday, Ocris told her sister to hurry because she expected Helen to master Apparition tomorrow.
Tomorrow… wasn’t it just right?
Could Louis really be ahead?
What made Helen shiver more was that her sister said this today:
“Louis,” Ocris said seriously. “Apparition is a very dangerous Magic. Don’t rush it or try it recklessly. I’m busy these days—soon, I’ll take you all outside to a proper field for practice.”
“Oh, in a couple of days, fine—teacher, guess what happened yesterday?” Louis teased mysteriously. “I dreamed I slept on the office sofa! But when I woke up…”
The sisters widened their eyes, pricked up their ears, and clenched their fists nervously.
“…it was just a dream.”
Helen loosened her fist and sighed in relief, wiping her sweat.
Ocris patted her chest and leaned back on the sofa.
That evening, Ocris skipped the Apparition lesson and only taught Transfiguration. She hinted at the fun of Transfiguration magic and encouraged Louis, telling him he could become an Animagus.
“Louis, you can do it!” Ocris raised her fist solemnly to cheer him on. Helen nodded beside her.
“Oh,” Louis nodded. “But why only Transfiguration today?”
Ocris turned away to write on the blackboard.
“Ah~ teacher, after dreaming about the office last night, guess what happened when I woke up?” Louis started again. “I was actually lying on the Living Room sofa!” Hearing this, Helen buried her head in her book, her eyes wide as if seeing a ghost.
Ocris didn’t answer at all and began teaching Transfiguration.
Even when Louis stood up, walked in front of Ocris, and followed up with questions, Ocris acted like she didn’t hear.
“Um, Helen, jot this question down…”
“Okay, okay.”
Seeing the sisters change the subject, Louis smiled and leaned back on the sofa, fiddling with the Crystal Ball used to record the class like before.
But this time, no one put on facial expressions. Both sisters avoided his eyes and focused intently on discussing Transfiguration.
That night, Ocris dreamed at midnight that Louis was sleeping on the Living Room sofa.
It scared her into a cold sweat.
Sitting up and wiping her sweaty forehead, Ocris realized it was just a dream and breathed a huge sigh of relief.
But she couldn’t sleep. Feeling restless, she tossed and turned, worrying about the dream—Louis didn’t have a blanket!
And Louis probably hadn’t washed his feet that night! Helen even teased him about it earlier—why is this kid like that? How could he not wash his feet before sleep?
He should wash them properly with warm water to sleep well.
Or at least wipe them with a hot towel!
“Wait, why do I keep thinking about this?”
Ocris looked dazed.
Suddenly, she felt uneasy. She tiptoed to the Living Room.
When she stepped out, she saw the huge moon outside shining brightly and beautifully. The moonlight poured in, and the breeze was soft.
Louis’s door was closed, and he wasn’t on the sofa.
Just a dream, just a dream!
Ocris sighed deeply in relief, wiped her sweat secretly, and walked into the Living Room to pour herself some cool tea.
Louis was getting more and more disrespectful; after the bet period ended tomorrow evening, she would teach him a lesson to remember she was his teacher!
After drinking the cool tea, Ocris still felt uneasy. She put the tea down and had to look at the sofa again. Her eyes widened as if seeing a ghost, and she nearly fell to the floor.
Louis, asleep, had suddenly appeared on the sofa!
Ocris ran inside numbly and shut the door tightly.
Not long after, Ocris’s bedroom door opened quietly. Then, a sneaky figure crept guiltily to the Living Room with a flushed face.
In her hands was a beautiful, steaming wet towel—it looked like she had specially heated the water.
At the same time, Helen’s door cracked open a bit, revealing a worried face.
