Chapter 18: Dragon District Hot Springs Club
by WuWangChapter 18: Dragon District Hot Springs Club
“The hot springs in Dragon District?” Helen blinked her eyes, looking at the Night Watchman pass in Louis’s hand, her face full of surprise.
“I got it specially from Mr. ‘Collor’ of the Night Watchmen today.” Louis said with a smile. “You know, Dragon District usually has Magical Creature classes often, it’s very crowded, so there’s no chance to go have fun. Now during the holiday break, it’s quiet over there, the opportunity is really rare, let’s go play together.”
“Hmph. Even if you apologize like this, I still won’t be nice to you.” Helen said, puffing out her cheeks in anger.
“Of course it’s not just for apologizing. You’ve mentioned the Dragon District hot springs several times, haven’t you? I’ve been remembering it all along.” Louis smiled brightly. “Come on, don’t be angry anymore.”
Helen’s heart fluttered slightly. She couldn’t help but sneak a glance at Louis out of the corner of her eye. Her heart pounded like a little deer.
‘Could he like me?’
‘If I agree right away, would it, would it seem…’
‘This is my first date…’
‘Why does the first date have to be at a hot spring, what should I do…’
‘At this time, the hot springs area is closed for the break, there aren’t many people, just the two of us…’
Helen’s face stayed red for a long time, and she thought about many things. Finally, under Louis’s gentle gaze and persistent urging, she shyly nodded.
“The water at Dragon District hot springs is deep, don’t forget your swimsuit.”
“Mhm!”
That evening, Helen changed into a pretty dress and did her hair. On the cobblestone path leading to the hot springs, she walked barefoot, happy as a little bird.
In the night, mist swirled around the beautiful forest, and a light rain fell on the steaming hot springs lake.
The strange mushrooms and ferns around the lake glowed beautifully under the moonlight. The little creatures on the hot springs lake floated in the air like jellyfish, shining brightly.
This place was like a fairyland. Only the two of them were nearby, the atmosphere was very romantic.
After changing into her specially bought new swimsuit, Helen sat nervously on a large rock by the hot springs and looked up at Louis.
“But, Louis.” Helen slid her small feet in the water, her face red as she said, “The water is so deep, I can’t swim… I heard you’re very good at swimming, right? I, I’ve always wanted to learn.”
Looking at the ‘swimming champion’ description on ‘Helen’s character profile’, Louis fell into thought.
But that wasn’t important.
“Aha! ~ Upside down, hands and feet tied! Hahahaha, I win!”
[Mana +1]
“Wah wah wah, Louis, I’ll never be nice to you again… Wah wah wah… I’m going to tell my sister, wah wah wah…”
[Obviously, Louis was doomed…]
However, Louis was prepared. When Helen changed back into her clothes and was crying and about to leave, he grabbed Helen and, smiling, pulled out a bunch of delicious snacks from his bag.
These things were all Helen’s favorite treats. Many of them he had bought specially from a Yordle master chef.
After the picnic, Helen happily patted her little belly. Her favorability towards Louis once again returned to Max.
Seizing the opportunity, Louis started playing with the little accessories that Helen never let outsiders touch.
Holding the beautiful bracelet on Helen’s small arm, a door to a New World suddenly opened for Louis.
Louis was astonished to find that the Magical Artifacts in this world actually had so many strange and unusual functions.
The Magical Artifacts on Southern District’s shopping street were all trash compared to the ones Helen wore!
As for Helen’s Wand, it was truly a priceless wand!
If Trif had been in the office these days and saw Louis manage to deflect Helen’s Magic Spell with a wholesale Wand, he would have definitely widened his eyes and asked how Louis did it.
It seemed the top-tier Artifacts on Helen weren’t just the wand and bracelet.
The necklace, ring, even the hairpin and the beautiful gem anklet on her foot were all top-tier Magical Artifacts—while teasing Helen, Louis touched them all and was shocked by the descriptions in the Narration.
A total of seven top-tier Artifacts. Probably even an old professor standing before Helen would be beaten crying for his mom and dad!
But Louis grew a bit puzzled. It seemed the highest Magic Spell level these Artifacts could protect against was around Lv5.
And from the books about Magic Spell interpretation he saw in the Library, few books described Magic above Lv5—only certain Magic books in his memory called ‘Forbidden Tomes’ had descriptions of Magic above Lv5.
Louis couldn’t help but think of the professor he saw on exam day—some famous professors had very surging Mana, described in Storybooks as “??”, meaning it exceeded five times Louis’s Mana.
But among the Magic they mastered, it seemed few reached above Lv4—for example, that very famous Miss ‘Yingling’, the Infatuation she used was only around Lv4—Lv5.
Louis’s expression turned strange. It seemed the Wizards in this world had very high Mana levels, but mastering a Magic around Lv4 to Lv5 seemed to count as mastering a special skill, making one quite famous among ordinary Wizards.
Mana was like ‘spell damage’, but even with great ‘brute force’, high-level Magic and low-level Magic had an essential gap—Lv3, Lv5, Lv7, Lv10 all had qualitative differences. They were like different Magic.
Louis looked at the many daily Magic Spells on his personal panel that were almost reaching Lv6, and an idea formed in his mind—it seemed the Wizards in this world, though strong in Mana, seemed to ‘not really know how to play with Magic’.
“Hmph, no matter how much you coax me, I won’t pay attention to you anymore.” Helen said as she tied up her hair, pulled back her foot, kicked Louis twice, her face blushing.
Louis looked up.
Looking at Helen’s shy face and her big, watery eyes, Louis fell into thought.
That night, even though Helen repeatedly said the dormitory was already locked, Louis still found a way to take her back to the dorm.
Recently, Ocris was busy with experiments and was not in the dorm. With only two people in the dorm, Helen was a bit nervous.
‘Just as I thought! This big meanie!’
Sitting in the Living Room, Helen nervously held her bag, looking at Louis and stammering: “S-should we read for a while, I, I bought a new book of poetry…”
Louis glanced at Helen’s flat chest, smiled and said: “Be good, little kid, play at home by yourself. Uncle has to go help the Night Watchmen with their shift.”
After saying that, Louis swaggered out. He left Helen alone sitting in the Living Room, pouting: “Who’s a little kid…”
18 years old, not a little kid anymore.
But flat chest counts.
After returning to the office, Louis stood before a Mirror. After a moment, the face of the person in the Mirror twisted like water. Before long, it changed to look like ‘Wu Yanzu’.
Rubbing his chin, Louis looked at his own clothes and shook his head—only his face changed, the clothes didn’t change successfully.
This was a trick he learned from Stuart. He had mastered it thoroughly over these days.
Calamity Evil Spirits had special bodies with high talent in transformation. They could not only change their own bodies but also the surrounding environment.
As for Louis, he had actually been practicing secretly for several days—even the vice-principal, if not using detection Magic, couldn’t see through his ‘Transfiguration Spell Lv3 (7/100)’ just by sensing.
Of course, Mr. Nightmare played it better, capable of ‘group images’. But Lv3 Transfiguration Spell was enough. After all, this wasn’t an ordinary transformation spell.
So this was enough for Louis to wander around outside.
Today Louis planned to try his luck near the Sacred Oak; there should be something there.
He changed his outfit. First he got a pipe, then put on an old Wizard robe from the locker in the Lounge.
After dressing up, he stood before the Mirror and looked at himself.
After putting on the clothes and pipe, he looked much more mature, like a young professor in his twenties or thirties. Then Louis used a small trick within the ‘Transfiguration Spell’. This way, even if someone broke his ‘Transfiguration Spell’, the person they saw would be a ‘Faceless One’.
“Looks not bad.” Louis raised an eyebrow slightly, took off the pipe, and removed the Wizard robe. After putting everything into his bag, he changed into his Night Watchman uniform and returned to his own appearance. Then, taking Mr. Collor’s credentials, he went out on patrol.
