Chapter 48: Magic Trick
by WuWangChapter 48: Magic Trick
Harold picked up his seven-inch short wand with two fingers and cast magic towards the Magician’s Box.
Inside the box was the entire Blackhorn Alley, and the Magician’s magic spells rained down from the sky.
At first, these spells were just small tricks that restricted a person’s body, like appetizers in a magic show. But after only a few tricks, his magic became more and more different.
What was even more bizarre was that every time the Magician released a spell, all the spells he had cast before would reappear once!
Seeing that strange magic, Yingling widened her eyes and suddenly remembered what her aunt had once said.
Reappearance, this was a technique created by Harold himself. Some said it was an extremely clever ‘Duplication Charm,’ where the Magician cleverly echoed all the spells he had chanted. Others said it was an art of temporal recurrence, allowing the Magician to make all spells he cast within a period reappear once again, consuming only a tiny bit of mana.
But no matter what, no wizard had yet been able to fully understand Harold’s ‘Reappearance.’
In the short time it took to drink a cup of tea, the magic spells inside the Magician’s Box became overwhelming. And as Harold continued casting, the spells inside the box grew more and more numerous, seemingly endless.
The battle quickly escalated into a white-hot stage, but weirdly, it seemed like not a single spell hit the Faceless One. This made Harold and Yingling both gasp in surprise—just like in the legend, this Faceless One was like a person who didn’t exist!
But not long after, they noticed that the Faceless One was no longer standing still. He began dodging the spells, flying around chaotically or using Apparition.
Presumably, the Faceless One’s protective spells couldn’t withstand so many magic spells, especially since the spells in the Magician’s Box had already exceeded one hundred.
But what Yingling found hard to believe was that once the Faceless One started dodging, not a single spell could catch up to him. Every spell was cleverly avoided.
Yingling watched everything happening in the Magician’s Box, feeling somewhat incredulous. Because inside that box, it was now as if over a hundred wizards were chasing the Faceless One, yet he handled it effortlessly, as if he were already used to being pursued by over a hundred wizards.
The Magician’s expression also gradually grew serious. The spells flying chaotically inside the box kept flashing like fireworks. Illusory images of fireworks also flickered in the sky above Blackhorn Alley. Many confused passersby looked up, watching and clapping. But this time, the Magician didn’t seem as calm and composed as before.
That Faceless One inside the box was actually learning his magic!
Moreover, the Faceless One kept ‘reappearing’ various spells, as if practicing the Reappearance technique.
This was unbelievable to Harold!
Not only did he dodge my spells, but he’s also learning my techniques. This made Harold feel insulted.
The Magician suddenly picked up a curtain from the magic stage. He elegantly draped it over the Magician’s Box and then lifted it. Suddenly, six floating Array Crystals appeared around the box, rotating in formation. And the originally empty Blackhorn Alley now had many puppet wizards.
The puppet wizards walked into streets and alleys, starting to chant spells following the Magician’s commands. In the blink of an eye, hundreds and thousands of spells filled the sky and began doubling continuously in an increasing manner!
Seeing this, Yingling couldn’t help but feel nervous. The puppets inside the box, supported by the Crystal Array, had limitless mana. Also, those puppets were enchanted during creation, each able to resist some spells, making them very hard to destroy.
Perhaps the Faceless One recognized how formidable these puppets were. He didn’t dare waste time destroying them and focused solely on dodging—looking almost like he was playing.
Yingling shook her head, dismissing this absurd thought—there were already over a thousand spells inside that box; how could it be just playing?
But it seemed the Faceless One had gotten smarter. From his robe flew out some… wait?!
Yingling blinked hard. She saw countless spells fly out from the Faceless One’s robe, and he kept reappearing them. In an instant, there were thousands! These spells were all Harold’s magic!
Soon, the number of spells belonging to the Faceless One in the Magician’s Box exceeded Harold’s by several times!
At this moment, Yingling widened her eyes. She saw the overwhelming spells fly towards the sky, tangling with the Magician’s magic spells up there.
Harold’s head suddenly spun, his monocle almost falling off. But then, he suddenly waved his hand grandly, and all the spells belonging to the Faceless One turned into flowers!
For a moment, in the world of Blackhorn Alley inside the Magician’s Box, the sky was filled with floating black rose petals, a breathtakingly beautiful sight.
Seeing the rose petals in the sky, the Faceless One was stunned!
This wasn’t illusion; it was real transformation!
Yingling widened her eyes—this was ‘Card Magic’!
Legend said that Harold could transfigure anything. He even once turned a curse on a person into a Playing Card and pulled it out from behind their ear, hidden in their hair.
Then, he turned that Playing Card into a pigeon and set it free!
“Impressive! Amazing!” The Faceless One couldn’t help but clap.
The Magician gave a slight bow, accepting the praise. However, he wiped sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief, seeming a bit strained from that last move.
But it was all over. No matter how strong a person was, they couldn’t defeat a Secret Realm!
The Magician lightly waved his wand, once again reappearing his spells. In an instant, tens of thousands of spells appeared inside the box, flying overwhelmingly towards the Faceless One.
But then, the Magician’s glasses nearly fell off in shock!
He saw the Faceless One, just like he had done, wave a grand hand towards the spells in the sky. Then, all the densely packed spells in the sky turned into Playing Cards!
For a moment, it rained Playing Cards!
At this moment, Yingling, watching from the cage, felt a slight dizziness—this was not a battle a wizard of her level could participate in!
“I underestimated you, Faceless One.” Harold’s face turned slightly pale, as if he hadn’t recovered from what just happened. His mouth felt dry. “You actually figured out the secret of my ‘Reappearance.'”
“Correct, sir. This Reappearance is very interesting, but it has a small flaw.” The Faceless One couldn’t help but nod, falling back into his habit of lecturing. “Although each of these reappeared spells seems to still have mana, they are actually just one. So, if you deal with the original spell, all the spells will be dealt with.”
“—As for the ‘Card Magic’ spell, it’s a recreation of Transfiguration…” The Faceless One shook his head and said, “I must say, you are very creative and imaginative. I’m deeply inspired. I think I should be able to now…”
As he spoke, a red wand flew out from the Faceless One’s large sleeve. Then, this wand turned into a burning phoenix and flew towards the sky.
In an instant, the sky seemed covered by fiery clouds. The Playing Cards in the sky were swept clean, and showers of fire rained down.
After those Playing Cards burned up, their ashes all turned back into spells, striking the phoenix together.
The constantly exploding spells in the sky turned into countless fireworks! But the phoenix was immune to all this magic!
This was a real phoenix!
Yingling stared dumbfounded at all this. Harold also seemed greatly shaken, his mouth hanging open as he failed to regain his composure for a long time.
The phoenix burned out under the Faceless One’s control. The ashes finally turned into a wand and returned to his hand.
“Not good enough, not good enough.” The Faceless One shook his head, clicked his tongue, glanced at the ‘god-like’ big fat face in the sky, and said with full shame in his tone, “It didn’t achieve Nirvana, so it doesn’t count as ‘Ao’s Ashes.'”
Harold the fat man exploded right then.
Could you be any more pretentious?
You’ve gone too far!
[Thanks to your efforts, Mr. Harold’s anger meter is full. He is about to bring out a big treasure he never shows anyone.]
‘So this Magician’s Box still has good stuff!’ Louis said excitedly to the sky, “Mr. Harold, please show me your circus—you seem to have given life and soul to your puppet show. It’s really fascinating!”
Louis was excited. Right now, his phoenix was only missing a bit of soul and life!
Harold’s Dark Moon Circus was sure to give him some inspiration.
The Magician’s pupils slightly contracted—how did he see my circus? That circus is clearly in another Secret Realm!
The Magician then realized—it seems this person learned about my circus from someone else, and he definitely isn’t an Agent from the Ministry of Magic.
Because the Agents from the Ministry of Magic have never seen my circus.
Agents… ha, those fools who can’t even perform a simple trick, yet act all high and mighty, thinking they’re so great?
They are not worthy of ‘visiting’ my circus.
They aren’t even qualified to be puppets.
Considering the Faceless One an Agent would be an insult to him.
He knew who sent the Faceless One—the Hexagon Magic Prison.
Because that ‘Lantern-bearing Thousand-Faced Death God’ Polst had witnessed this magic trick of his.
“I never imagined that the Hexagon Magic Prison would produce such an remarkable Warden.”
After saying this, Magician Harold gave a slight bow, dropped his wand, and revealed his true ultimate skill.
“My apologies!”
