Chapter 113: Fierce and Malevolent
by WuWangChapter 113: Fierce and Malevolent
After leaving the punk mecha, Helen and Kate took Louis’s arm and went inside to look around. The three of them soon saw the vintage car exhibition area at the end of the hall.
The hosts here were mostly beautiful Miss Foxes and Dragon Ladies, along with several small Yordel Engineers holding megaphones, standing on big boxes promoting and explaining those vintage cars.
The cheapest of these vintage cars cost only 285 pounds, targeting the rich and the middle class. Urged by the beautiful Miss Foxes, some customers often paid on the spot to place orders right there.
The expensive ones ranged from several thousand to tens of thousands of pounds. One car could be worth several houses.
Those interested in such cars were the great nobles. Like Earl Crowley, or a true great noble like Miss Kate Crowley, they didn’t lack a few houses. They had plenty of towns. The number of houses was counted in ‘thousands’.
And a luxury car might not even be worth as much as a purebred fine horse in their stables.
So there were also many gentlemen and noble ladies here. Some noble ladies who didn’t quite understand were still asking how many horses were needed to pull these cars. It seemed they didn’t really grasp what these things were, just wanting to follow the trend and buy one to display.
Soon, Louis was drawn to a particular car. This car was probably the star attraction of the exhibition area, the same model as Earl Crowley’s car. There was a big Angel on the front. But it was black with a white top.
Many noble offspring were here asking the hosts about it; it seemed many wanted to place an order. But the waiting list was several years long, and some nobles, after hearing the price, smiled on the surface but secretly gasped in their hearts.
Kate met some acquaintances here, all noble ladies and young ladies. It seemed Kate had very extensive connections in noble ladies’ circles. And she was quite famous. A big star among the nobility.
When the many gentlemen and noble ladies learned that Helen was Ocris’s cousin and also a princess from some duchy, their eyes lit up. Although no one had heard of the duchy of ‘France’ Elirinda, this young lady’s appearance was extraordinary, and judging by her jewelry and bearing, she was definitely not a princess from some small country.
Several gentlemen wanted to perform a hand-kissing greeting for Kate and Helen and then introduce themselves. Helen was a bit confused at the time — Wizards didn’t do this sort of thing. But before those lips could touch their hands, Louis frowned and reached out to push the hands away.
‘What nonsense, a grown man wearing rouge on his face! Trying to kiss hands, I spit!’
Louis had his hands in his pockets, couldn’t help rolling his eyes. Helen, feeling a bit shy, instinctively held onto his arm.
At this point, the many nobles finally noticed the tall ‘bodyguard’ beside the two young ladies.
Kate couldn’t help feeling a bit amused and introduced, “This is my distant cousin, Louis. He is from abroad, and the customs there are different from ours — he currently works as a professor at Sacred Icon Tree Academy, a colleague of Her Highness Ocris. Oh, and he is also a Magic enthusiast…”
After hearing this, the many gentlemen and noble ladies showed reserved smiles, nodding to Louis, who also nodded back.
But the gentlemen and young ladies, after quietly observing this man in his early twenties, secretly complained in their hearts.
This must be that kind of ‘cousin’ arranged by Kate’s family for a future marriage, and Priest, Mage didn’t suit him at all. He looked more like a Knight.
Seems he’s also connected to Her Highness Helen or Her Highness Ocris.
Otherwise, why would a lowly Priest be so close to Princess Helen?
Earlier, they saw Kate holding his arm too. And no family name was given, so he’s probably a commoner.
He’s likely Her Highness Ocris’s Knight; he does have good looks. Wonder if this is the Earl’s intention, possibly for a marriage alliance. After all, this kind of powerless son-in-law would be more obedient.
Some gentlemen couldn’t help feeling a bit sour inside. But the noble ladies couldn’t help fanning themselves, smiling as they looked over this handsome young Knight.
Everyone didn’t pay much more attention to Louis. Kate took the chance to mention that Her Highness the Princess would return to the country tomorrow. The noble ladies were very excited, eager to join the fun. Becoming close friends with the Princess would be huge social capital in the future.
Some noble ladies even fanned themselves, saying they must host a salon or party then to celebrate together. But when Kate mentioned inviting their fathers, many changed the topic — the situation wasn’t clear yet, and apart from those with very deep business ties, no one planned to let their families get deeply involved in this mess.
Moreover, although Earl Crowley had once been extremely prominent, he hadn’t dealt with government affairs for many years now and was stuck with the Seventh Fleet mess. Whether he could stand strong this time was still uncertain.
So these noble ladies, offspring, and minor noble followers who came to attend the banquet and show support were actually just stones sent to test the waters.
Louis wasn’t interested in these cheerleaders. He saw the Yordles had gathered, surrounding that hostess asking all sorts of questions, so he cheerfully beckoned a Dragon Clan lady over and asked about that vintage car resembling the ‘Phantom’.
A group of gentlemen nearby saw this and couldn’t help curling their lips — you’re really shameless, living off women.
The Yordles, however, had their eyes shining, secretly giving thumbs up — not sure which bowl’s soft rice the boss plans to eat today.
Before Louis could ask more, the manager not far away suddenly called all nearby staff over and, along with them, hurriedly ran to the exhibition hall’s back door, pulling open that usually closed gate.
Then over thirty black, large-back vintage cars slowly drove in. Many gentlemen and noble ladies exclaimed in surprise.
“Baron Angus, now there’s stock — everyone in our whole Englen City who claimed to want to order one this year can have one.” A gentleman teased a noble who had been putting on airs earlier.
He was seeing so many Phantoms for the first time.
“Don’t talk nonsense, Benjamin,” Angus took out a handkerchief, wiping cold sweat. “Didn’t you see the people in those cars… it’s Stogg!”
Many others noticed this problem too. The staff frantically waved flags to guide them, signaling them to park in the distant parking spots. But those cars didn’t even glance at them and drove straight to the exhibition area. Some obstructing display cars were simply shoved aside.
Many nobles and rich people, seeing the people in those cars, stepped aside one after another, not daring to provoke these bullies.
Soon, groups of tall and burly men got out of those cars. There were Humans, Dragon Clan, and even Foxes. After getting out, they started clearing the area. These guys all wore top hats, padded shoulder tailcoats, dressed like gentlemen or salesmen. But their shirts had shiny gun holsters, with revolvers hanging from them.
Even stranger, the police detectives at the venue, upon seeing these people, bowed and scraped, helping maintain order.
Soon, a behemoth like a bulldozer drove in from the back. This behemoth had six wheels. The smallest front wheels were taller than a person, and the large rear wheels were over two meters high.
It had a flat front, no roof. A large chimney and a small chimney were sticking up on it. While moving, it kept farting, clattering, like a train. It could seat over ten people!
The Dragon Clan driver was a full three and a half meters tall. If he stood up, a grown man probably wouldn’t even reach his belt. His arms looked thicker than a normal person’s waist. And this Dragonborn was a bit throwback, with a jaw that protruded forward — like a shovel!
He also had a big tail behind him, like a huge hammer!
The seven or eight Dragon Clan bodyguards sitting in the back were also two to three meters tall. They all looked fierce and malevolent. They looked similar to this guy.
