Chapter 126: The Yordle Trip-Up Plan
by WuWangChapter 126: The Yordle Trip-Up Plan
Amidst the noise, some engineers had already opened the large door at the back. One could see this was indeed a coastline, with many wooden ship targets in the distance—all were enormous tower ships, resembling several gradually phased-out invincible warships.
The sea wind blew in fiercely, making the large drape on the Son of Lant flap noisily. Many engineers operated the huge mechanical arms from various control consoles. The mechanical arms reached out and pulled down the large drape covering the Son of Lant.
When this giant thing appeared before Louis’s eyes, he was stunned.
Wasn’t this the ‘Steampunk Gundam’ he saw at the exhibition? Just a bit larger than the model.
Opposite the Son of Lant, there seemed to be a painting of an enemy—a chibi-style two-headed super giant, looking particularly ugly.
One of the giant’s heads had a small pigtail sticking up, the other had a large single horn.
It stood there like a six or seven-story-tall building! Its body was like a big square block, its tonnage was probably more than double that of a dragon of the same volume!
No wonder this thing was called the Dragon Slayer. If all sorts of buffs were stacked on it and it went on a rampage, wouldn’t it be like the Hulk?
One swing of its club would definitely knock a dragon senseless!
Brute force overcomes all skills!
But Louis felt this thing didn’t quite look like a Gronn. It should have the bloodline of a Gronn and a dragon.
Could this thing be a hybrid?!
[This must be that ‘Dragon Slayer Gundam’.]
[So, this will be a battle between the real and fake ‘Gundams’.]
‘Ugh! Don’t insult my Gundam! They are not Gundams! Are Gundams this ugly?! Huh?! Are Gundams hybrids?! Huh?!’
Looking at that gigantic entity as tall as a building, Lilith and Yingling’s eyes sparkled with little stars: “So cool! So exciting!”
“Cool my foot!” Louis rolled his eyes hard.
At this moment, many engineers who had finished debugging climbed onto the ‘Gundam’ and began adjusting the Son of Lant. A few Ace Pilots glanced at Louis and went up first to assist with the debugging.
Lant suddenly slapped his forehead and quickly handed Louis a memory crystal from his embrace.
Louis scanned the crystal with his mind and discovered these memories contained various data about the Son of Lant, as well as various test situations from when it was first created. These were classified factory files.
He was surprised to find that some designs concerning this Son of Lant actually bore similarities to Harold’s puppets.
While Louis was digesting these memories here, the grand Engineer Mr. Lant, also a Yordle, excitedly pulled Louis aside to talk about his masterpiece. He shouted for the pilots and engineers to give a demonstration.
“I am absolutely thrilled, Your Highness Louis. The Son of Lant is a super weapon created to deal with the ‘Fallen Angel’. It is very special; one needs to resonate with it to operate it perfectly.”
Lant exclaimed excitedly: “To select the most suitable Ace Pilot, we even established a grand project—’The Yordle Completion Plan’.”
‘Don’t insult my EVA!’
“We have carefully reviewed your resume many times before. You are the most suitable pilot!” The eyes of several engineers around also lit up.
Archie, smoking a cigar nearby, couldn’t help but smirk proudly—he was the one who took Louis’s file from Holy Oak Academy and modified it according to the Completion Plan’s content. If it wasn’t suitable, that would be weird!
At this moment, a Magic Circle suddenly appeared on the huge Array Crystal on the chest of the Son of Lant. Then, a beam of magic shot out from the Magic Circle. A Yordle Ace Pilot opened his arms, closed his eyes, and was sucked into the crystal by the beam, gradually merging with the Son of Lant.
Immediately after, what looked like a Game Controller rose from inside the crystal.
The Yordle Ace Pilot solemnly grasped the Game Controller and gave a thumbs-up gesture to the crowd below.
Louis was dumbfounded.
You’re telling me this is the Completion Plan?
The Completion Plan uses a Game Controller?!
What exactly are you completing?!
“So cool!” Lilith and Yingling’s eyes sparkled with little stars.
“Cool my foot!”
Before Louis could voice his sarcasm, the many engineers below had already started waving flags. The Yordle Ace Pilot received the signal, stretched his little neck, looked at the scene outside the cockpit, and began pressing the Game Controller with a series of beeps.
This otherworldly super EVA finally started moving.
With a loud clanking and rattling, puffs of steam erupted from the smokestack on the back of the Son of Lant and from seams all over its body.
Louis blinked his eyes hard—so, this Crystal Array was for boiling water?
However, regardless of the power source, this six-story-tall giant, once it started moving, was indeed quite imposing, like a moving building emitting white smoke.
Louis became expectant. Soon, the pilot adjusted the huge Gundam, and then, this building-like mecha began walking in a circle, like an old man with polio, using two crutches.
“Absolutely perfect!” The engineers shouted excitedly.
The Ace Pilot put down the Game Controller, wiped the sweat from his head, and gave a thumbs-up gesture.
Louis’s eyes almost popped out.
That’s it?
What exactly did you complete?!
An old man?!
You completed an old man?!
Can this thing actually fight?
Is this for a duel? This is for tripping people up!
And then scare that Gronn silly?!
I’m afraid if it takes a couple more steps, it’ll fall down and not get up again, alright?!
Also, what did I just see? Was that pilot using that Fire God cannon as a crutch?!
He used that as a crutch, didn’t he?!
Huh?!
After walking two circles, the giant gradually changed from having polio to walking in an old-man-with-two-crutches style. This made the engineers very excited.
Louis rubbed his face.
Look on the bright side. No matter what, at least it can walk now, right?
Seemingly moving to the next phase of testing, the little Yordle pilot started frantically pressing the controller again. Then, the Son of Lant stuck out its rear and extended the cannon barrels on its back.
Those cannon barrels were in a messy state, like steel bars in ruins, making Louis’s eyelids twitch uncontrollably. He couldn’t help but ask Archie: “Aren’t you afraid the cannon fire might hit the spectator stands during the competition?”
“Don’t worry, Louis,” Archie said leisurely, puffing on his cigar. “It won’t hit the stands. My dragon arena has a labyrinth magic formation. The Royal Knight regiment already tested it extensively with cannons and howitzers in my arena. The cannonballs are no problem—not just cannonballs, even a twelve or thirteen-story-tall dragon, once it flies in, can’t fly out. You can give it your all.”
“But… Mr. Lant,” Louis looked at the Grand Engineer. “This era… ahem, I mean, haven’t cannon shells been invented yet? Why use such retro cannons and iron balls? At least install a howitzer or a rifled cannon?”
“Structural issues, structural issues,” Lant sighed and said. “However, these cannons don’t use gunpowder now; they are propelled by lightning.”
“Lightning?”
As he spoke, Grand Engineer Lant waved his hand. The ground crew shook their flags.
The Ace Pilot received the command, gave a thumbs-up, stretched his little head, and started pressing the Game Controller again with a clattering sound.
Immediately after, the large cannons on the back of the Son of Lant changed position, aiming at the ship targets on the distant sea surface.
Then, a scene that left Louis dumbstruck appeared—electric arcs actually crackled and flashed on the barrels of those several large cannons!
Within a few breaths, the numerous cannon barrels rumbled as they fired over a dozen iron balls towards the ship targets on the distant sea.
“Whoa! Railgun! This thing works! No wonder they don’t use rifled cannons and shells but use cannons and iron balls! Just this alone is awesome enough!” Louis reached out his hand, wanting to slap himself hard for his earlier sarcasm.
These Yordle Engineers were simply geniuses!
The Solerndor Empire already had steam-powered ironclad warships and steam airships now. Those ship targets were old, phased-out giant tower ship warships. Although their decks and sides didn’t have steel armor, they couldn’t be sunk with just a few dozen cannon shots.
But with this kind of firepower, it was hard to say—this was a bit too terrifying, wasn’t it?
If one of these shots hit a dragon, wouldn’t the dragon be knocked out cold?!
But, shouldn’t the projectiles fired from a railgun carry terrifying kinetic energy and therefore be incredibly fast?
Then why were those cannon barrels still elevated for indirect fire? And why did the projectiles have a parabolic trajectory?
They saw those dozen or so projectiles slowly trace several parabolas through the air and then land on the ships—one hit.
It seemed not only were they fired indirectly, but they were also aimed manually. And the power seemed similar to that of a smoothbore cannon.
Louis blinked his eyes hard.
Another dozen or so projectiles were fired; this time about five or six hit—so it indeed was manual aiming.
The hit ship targets splintered a little bit of woodchip—indeed still smoothbore cannon!
The Yordle Engineers cheered excitedly in waves.
Yingling and Lilith’s eyes sparkled with little stars: “So cool!”
“Cool my foot!!” Louis’s face almost twisted; he could barely stand to watch anymore.
“It’s time for you to show your skills, my Ace Pilot!” Archie suddenly jumped over, extending two fingers with a serious face and moving them deftly.
Seeing this, the many engineers also looked at Louis with grave expressions and extended their fingers.
Louis: “???”
