Chapter 34: May the Brilliant Stars and Moon Bless You
by WuWangChapter 34: May the Brilliant Stars and Moon Bless You
The night was deep, and Blackhorn Alley was much quieter at night than during the day.
People living in Blackhorn Alley knew that after dark, it was best not to walk alone in certain alleys.
But many people with special jobs inevitably had to return home very late. They also inevitably had to pass through alleys alone.
For the local humans living here, if they encountered such a situation, generally nothing would happen.
Because as long as they carried seven Silver Yordels, or seven copper coins, wrapped in a black ribbon symbolizing the Moon Goddess, then when they met some strange people, they could obediently hand over this little pouch symbolizing good luck. Then, placing a hand over their chest, they would say ‘May the brilliant stars and moon bless you.’ The person opposite would often take the money pouch and let them pass.
This was the rule here, a rule set by the crows for a steady, long-term gain. After all, most people in Blackhorn Alley were shop assistants or unfortunate souls. If all the locals ran away, there would be no more ‘fat sheep’ coming to Blackhorn Alley.
But for non-humans or wizard apprentices, they were not so lucky. Because they themselves were very valuable.
Especially those pretty non-human girls still studying at Sacred Oak, they often received extra attention.
After hesitating for a long time, the pretty Miss Fox finally pulled up her hood, covering her hair and face, and trembling, entered this dark alley.
Although she wore a large, old school uniform, it could not hide her graceful figure. When she walked, the pretty little pouch at her waist jingled loudly. No matter how she tried to cover it, she could not quiet the pleasant sound.
The street lamp here had been broken for who knows how long. The muddy alley was very narrow, and further in the depths, it was pitch black.
She seemed to regret it. Perhaps she shouldn’t have taken this shortcut today, right?
Little Fox stopped and turned around to go back. However, the exit, which should have been right there, now seemed to have no end.
Faintly, a sound came from behind her. The sound was mournful and sorrowful, like a song and also like faint sobbing. It made the girl’s heart tremble with fear.
Maybe someone needed help? She sounded very miserable and pitiful.
She didn’t have the courage to turn back and help. Struggling for a moment, she closed her eyes and quickened her pace.
The singing behind her grew farther and farther away, finally gradually quieting down.
But now there was a person in front of her.
That person was kneeling on the ground, completely naked. Her snow-white body and red long hair were covered in mud. She was covering her face, quietly sobbing.
“Help me… uh uh uh… help me… uh uh uh…”
Suddenly, the miserable woman lifted her head. Her face looked exactly the same as the girl’s!
Little Fox’s face turned deathly pale. She turned and started running like crazy.
A maze and prophetic visions, these were the tricks of the Voodoo Gang. They loved tormenting people like this. She had been targeted, and she might have been targeted for many days!
This alley might have been sealed by an Artifact. She was doomed!
The girl ran frantically. Suddenly, something appeared under her feet, tripping her. She fell to the ground clumsily. Shivering, she looked up and saw what tripped her was a shattered man’s thigh!
Further away, there were three more utterly miserable corpses!
These corpses were full of holes, almost torn to pieces. From the tattoos that could still be vaguely recognized on the bodies, they were crows from the Voodoo Gang.
Not far away, there were several tied-up girls. They had tear stains at the corners of their eyes but seemed to be asleep. One of them seemed to have just been tortured to death by the crows.
Beside the dead girl, a trembling crow was cowering. He seemed to have gone mad, grabbing his hair, huddled in a corner, screaming and shouting.
At that moment, in front of that crow, a tall and straight figure in a black robe stood quietly in the alley.
He had his back to the girl. He was coldly pulling out a painfully wailing soul from a corpse with his wand. Then he threw the soul into a mirror in his hand.
This scene was like a demon harvesting souls.
A wet feeling spread from between the girl’s legs. Her whole body began to shake like a sieve.
The unexpected intruder made the black-robed figure slowly lift his head. Beneath the hood, the girl saw a face without features.
He extended his index finger and made a ‘shush’ gesture towards the girl. Then he continued with his work.
A moment later, the souls from several corpses were harvested by the Faceless One. He walked over to the crow who had lost his mind. He changed his wand into a dagger and cut open the crow’s palm.
Then, the Faceless One chanted a Magic Spell. The crow’s palm bled profusely. The blood dripped onto the pure white face of the dead girl.
Not long after, that crow rapidly aged and then died. But the girl who had already died suddenly gasped for air and sat up, looking dazed!
Borrowing life to return the soul! It was Borrowing Life to Return the Soul!
Little Fox’s teeth began to chatter.
Was he the legendary ‘Thousand-Faced Lantern Reaper,’ Lord Polst?
Or the Red King? The Black King?
Many knew this Magic, but those who could truly make someone come back to life were probably only a few.
Of course, there was an even more terrifying person… Little Fox didn’t dare think further. She didn’t dare to think of his name.
[A warrior who saves people…]
[Louis always thought that because he had a mana bar, he was a wizard. But actually, some warriors also had mana bars – like paladins…]
Ignoring the Narration, Louis pulled out the soul of this wanted criminal and threw it into the mirror.
Brushing the dust off his robe, Louis looked at this dark alley. He made a gesture with his hand. Then the entire alley began to invert and rotate like a four-dimensional puzzle cube.
The maze set up by the Voodoo Gang was easily broken. The Faceless One and Little Fox were also transported back to the normal world.
Footsteps sounded. The faceless Mysterious Man left the area. As he passed the girl, she tremblingly took out seven Silver Yordels tied with a black ribbon: “M-may… may the b-brilliant stars and m-moon bless you…”
Louis stopped. Seeing the girl still standing there with her eyes closed and her hand raised, he took one silver coin. Looking at it, he noticed the portrait on the coin seemed to have been mischievously changed by this little fox to look like herself.
He smiled, pocketed this interesting silver coin, and left.
After leaving, Louis went to a bar in the safe zone.
However, he had transformed to look like a human woman. Her hot figure and face attracted the interest of the drunkards. Many people started flirting with her. And this woman seemed very good at flirting too.
Indeed, only men understood men best.
Those four dead unlucky fellows had all mentioned this bar. It was a base for the Voodoo Gang. Whether they were wizards or squibs, basically none of them were good people.
According to the unlucky guys, a fearsome wizard from the gang was usually stationed in this bar.
But after looking around, Louis didn’t see any fearsome person. The strongest person was only a bit stronger than the four unlucky guys who died outside.
It seemed Stuart had sneaked here earlier, played around in the bar for a while, and implanted nightmares in some people. But until now, these people hadn’t even noticed.
It seemed most wizards in this world were only at the level of street magic tricks. People like Helen were considered elites.
‘No wonder it’s a newbie zone. As for that fearsome wizard… Hmm, what real wizard stays drunk day and night in a bar? They probably only come occasionally during the day.’
Louis stopped being polite. He picked out some ill-intentioned unlucky fellows and left them with nightmares. Including the ones Stuart had dealt with earlier, there were eight people in total.
That night, after returning to the base, Louis sat in the chair in front of the mirror and checked today’s gains.
[Louis Lv6 (35/100)]
[Strength: 8.28 Dexterity: 5.1 Mana: 13.93]
[Storybook energy: 1]
He had encountered six people today. The four at night were Dark Wizards. The weekly quota was already exceeded. Random attribute points were added to Strength, with an additional point of Mana.
Also, Louis noticed that his Presence in the Storybook seemed to have increased by another 15.
‘Looks like these guys did a lot of bad things, so they were quite famous?’
Shaking his head, Louis used the energy to comprehend Four-Dimensional Inversion.
Four-Dimensional Inversion reached level 7. But strangely, level 7 Four-Dimensional Inversion showed no changes. Louis couldn’t help but frown. He felt he might need some practice – like exploring the four-dimensional structure of some objects.
This required some preparation. He temporarily set this matter aside.
After thinking for a while, Louis took out his storage bag and pulled out a strange-looking tall hat.
Of those four Dark Wizards, one was somewhat decent. This hat was his Magical Artifact.
