Chapter 50: “None. Don’t talk to me.”

At the moment the great vanishing act was completed, every single audience member in the Moon Shadow Circus cheered, applauded, and cast magic spells that released fireworks, rainbows, flowers, and so on. In the blink of an eye, they covered the sky inside the magician’s box, making it impossible to see anything clearly inside.

And within another of Harold’s magics, the same scene unfolded in Blackhorn Alley.

For a while, both inside and outside the box, it seemed like a New Year celebration, incredibly lively.

But the wizards of Blackhorn Alley who truly knew Magician Harold’s reputation looked up at the sudden appearance of fireworks in the sky and trembled with fear—the terrifying Magician had actually come to Blackhorn Alley at some unknown time! Who was he dealing with?

This made people unsure whether to celebrate or to worry about the days to come.

The reason to celebrate was that Magician Harold should be able to handle that damn serial killer.

Unfortunately, another madman had arrived in Blackhorn Alley.

Even worse, wherever Harold went, the Ministry of Magic’s agents were sure to swarm.

“Clap clap clap clap clap, brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Clap clap clap clap clap!” A wave of applause erupted around him.

Harold couldn’t help but reveal an exceedingly proud smile.

Indeed, how could a circus performance not be brilliant? A wave of dizziness washed over him. A cold sweat broke out on Harold’s forehead. He knew this was the dizziness from mana exhaustion—that damn Faceless One’s mana seemed almost limitless! And his magic consumption was so low it was hard to understand! Yet his own crystal array was nearly depleted.

“Clap clap clap, today has been so much fun! Clap clap clap, I’ve never seen something so interesting! It’s really very satisfying!”

Indeed, today had been really fun, and Harold was quite satisfied—this Faceless One was really interesting. He would dress him up properly later—right, and that little fox too.

A handkerchief was handed to him. Harold wiped his forehead and said modestly, “Thank you.”

Suddenly, Harold spun his head around as if he had seen a ghost! Right beside him was an excited Faceless One, clapping his hands. He wore the scarecrow’s tuxedo and a top hat on his head, leaning over the magician’s box to look inside, his face nearly pressed against Harold’s body.

Yingling also widened her peach blossom eyes—when had that guy gotten out? She clearly saw him get teleported into the prison cell!

“Fantastic, fantastic, Harold, I couldn’t help but join in. This great vanishing act is really interesting. This kind of firsthand experience is truly rare. Not many magics can still have an effect on me.”

Harold suddenly fell to the ground, pointing a finger at the Faceless One. “Y-you you you you…”

“Oh, Mr. Harold, you are truly an artist. You were just too focused, so you didn’t notice.” The Faceless One took off his top hat, gave a slight bow, and said,

“Actually, I was standing by your side the whole time. However, I couldn’t help but participate later. I wanted to stay a bit longer in this interesting circus, but it seemed your puppets were about to dress me in a clown suit, and I couldn’t bear to ruin them, so I came out.”

If someone had said earlier that they ‘couldn’t bear to ruin Harold’s puppets,’ Yingling would have spat at them, then stomped on them hard with her high heels, while cursing, ‘You’re really full of hot air!’

After all, just moments ago, only one of those thirty puppets had easily handled her—none of her magic had worked on that puppet! Yingling thought it would take both her and Ocris to deal with these puppets—combined, they should be able to handle one puppet.

When the Faceless One said he couldn’t bear to damage them, Yingling believed he might be telling the truth. Perhaps in his eyes, they really were just some toys… This ‘duel,’ in his view, might also just be a game… Yingling could hardly imagine—everyone said there were many super powerhouses hiding their strength among the Ministry of Magic agents, but she didn’t expect even Magician Harold would be helpless against this agent.

Yingling’s watery peach blossom eyes couldn’t help but shift thoughtfully.

Recently, quite a few agents had indeed come to Blackhorn Alley. As a Foxkin with close ties to the Ministry of Magic, Yingling’s aunt was a high official in the Ministry. The Red Fox Den also often helped the Ministry act as an informant. Therefore, Yingling knew the leader of these agents, Kevin—it was said they had come specifically for Harold.

For a while now, there had been rumors that the Faceless One was from the Ministry of Magic. Yingling suspected from the very beginning that the Faceless One was secretly played by the agents, so this little vixen took advantage of the situation, created some rumors, and extorted a few properties that the Red Fox Den had long wanted.

Yingling didn’t expect that later, the Faceless One would cause such a big commotion in Blackhorn Alley, getting her into major trouble. She even more so didn’t expect the Faceless One to actually be connected to her! It was possible the Faceless One really was being played by the agents! So he had been secretly protecting her all along!

But… were Kevin and those guys really the Faceless One? Weren’t they just saying not long ago that the Faceless One was Harold’s puppet, and the true culprit was Harold? It seemed like they had deliberately spread those rumors—this simple little trick was indeed effective! Harold was successfully lured out!

Hearing that their main purpose in coming this time was for Harold, and learning about their mission, Yingling had a headache—these idiot agents were arrogant but hadn’t seen the real world, totally unaware of Harold’s terror… Back then, Yingling suspected they had a trump card. Now, thinking about it, everything seemed to make sense—among the agents, there must be a Ministry of Magic bigshot hiding! He deliberately took on the role of an agent and had been playing the part of the Faceless One all along! That’s why they were so confident coming here!

Yingling didn’t know which hidden bigshot in the Ministry the Faceless One was, but since he would go all out to save her, he must be a friend or elder relative of one of her aunts!

Thinking this, Yingling’s pretty face suddenly turned a bit rosy, and her gaze towards the Faceless One became soft and touching—her aunt always wanted her to marry some old man as a concubine, or marry a super-rich second generation like Kevin. He was quite attentive to her, but not attentive enough, so she originally planned to keep him on the hook, to temper his disposition a bit. And to see if there were any richer guys… But now it seemed Kevin was actually pretty good too… Why didn’t you say so earlier? So powerful, usually too shy to talk to me, yet secretly protecting me…

However, this Faceless One… judging by his demeanor, he seemed very mature. Physically, he seemed very handsome, and even taller and stronger than Kevin—he actually reminded her of that good-looking male student Ocris kept! She didn’t know which agent was playing him. Could it not be Kevin? She didn’t know exactly who. It might be one of those powerful old men from the Ministry… but if he really looked similar to that good-looking guy, becoming his concubine wouldn’t be unacceptable…

Just as Yingling was secretly lost in these thoughts, she heard a conversation that made her jump in fright. She wanted to scream, but the rose in her mouth prevented her from speaking. All she could do was keep hopping on the spot.

She saw the Faceless One take out a pair of magical shackles from his chest—the very ones originally worn by the scarecrow.

“No matter what, I lost.” Harold said dejectedly. He stretched out his hands, appearing to surrender and admit defeat willingly. “Take me away—but please, let me take one last look at my puppets.”

    “Alright.” The Faceless One nodded.

At this moment, Harold widened his eyes, stunned. This fool, he actually agreed! Harold couldn’t help but feel a surge of wild joy inside.

Seeing the little Barbie doll (the shrunken Yingling) in the small cage hopping around, Harold glared fiercely at Yingling. Then he leaned over the magician’s box, looking at it with deep reluctance.

Immediately after, this fat man, with unexpected agility, squeezed inside, leaving behind only a burst of maniacal laughter: “Hahahahahaha!”

Yingling’s eyes rolled back, and she nearly fainted. It’s over, it’s all over! This Faceless One is a complete idiot. I was jumping so hard my chest’s little rabbits were about to fly into the sky, and he didn’t even look! Is he stupid? He’s still there looking at the box and laughing. Still applauding? He doesn’t stupidly think Harold is playing with him, does he? Think Harold will come back?

—Wait, right! I know, I know where he went! The magician must have gone to the port! You fool! Look at me!! (hop hop hop) Look at me!!

“Interesting, interesting. What’s this magic called?” The Faceless One clapped his hands, looking puzzledly at Yingling. Then, from his Mind Reading, he got the answer: “Oh? Escape Room? That name fits quite well.”

After saying this, he saw the Faceless One place the top hat on the ground. Then, a fat man flew out like a rabbit—it was like a U-shaped bottle! The rabbit entered one end of the U-bottle, then, due to momentum, flew out from the other end.

“Hahahaha, that idiot…” Harold laughed as he flew out, landing on the ground. “Don’t rush, Faceless One. When I finish researching my new magic, I’ll come back…”

Harold’s words suddenly stopped. He looked up in confusion and saw Yingling in the cage staring at him with her mouth agape.

The two stared at each other for a long while. The Faceless One began to applaud.

“Are there any other interesting new magics?”

    “None.”
