Fu Tingshen refused to let his and his Xing Xing’s ending be like that of his parents. But he absolutely… absolutely would never let Xing Xing go.
“Tingshen, baby, please open the door. My hand really hurts.”
Xu Xinghe didn’t stop knocking. Knocking for so long had left the joints of her hand somewhat red.
In a daze, Fu Tingshen thought he heard his star calling him. She said her hand hurt. He didn’t want Xing Xing’s hand to hurt.
Fighting through the dizziness, Fu Tingshen stood up and followed the sound to the door. He raised his bloodstained hand and placed it on the door.
Their hands, separated only by the door, accidentally landed on the exact same spot. His Xing Xing cares about him. Maybe he’s luckier than his father after all.
It wasn’t until three in the morning that Fu Tingshen finally opened the door. All along, he had been sitting with his back against it. He absolutely could not allow even the slightest chance of Xing Xing getting hurt.
Once he was sure his condition had stabilized, Fu Tingshen noticed that it had gone very quiet outside. He assumed Xu Xinghe had gone back to her room to rest.
Just as he opened the door with a “creak,” a figure immediately began to fall forward. Fu Tingshen reacted in an instant and dropped to his knees to catch Xu Xinghe’s face steadily in his large hands.
He didn’t expect his Xing Xing to still be at the door. For a moment, he just froze there until her eyes slowly opened.
“Baby finally opened the door.” Xu Xinghe’s voice was soft and sleepy as she just woke up. She gently nuzzled her cheek against his large palm.
Fu Tingshen’s dormant heart was now beating unusually fast. But growing up without love had left him unable to express love even in the most basic way.
“I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have kept you waiting so long,” Fu Tingshen said guiltily. Although he loved that his Xing Xing cared about him and worried for him, seeing her so tired she could barely keep her eyes open only made his heart ache.
Hearing this, Xu Xinghe lifted her face. “You’re such a bad baby! Very, very naughty!” She puffed out her cheeks to show that she was very angry.
“Mm, I’m bad.” Fu Tingshen felt even more guilty. No matter how she wanted to blame him or punish him, he would accept it.
“Then what did you do wrong?” Xu Xinghe put her hands on her hips and interrogated him. The two of them remained there, one sitting and one kneeling at the doorway.
Fu Tingshen thought seriously for a moment. “I shouldn’t have ignored you. And I made Xing Xing’s hand hurt.”
“Wrong!” Xu Xinghe interrupted, puffing with anger. It was clear that he had no idea why she was really angry.
“Fu Tingshen, you don’t care about yourself at all! You keep thinking about me, but what about you? Have you ever thought that if you get hurt, I will feel pain too?” Xu Xinghe poured out all her thoughts to Fu Tingshen in one breath.
Fu Tingshen was stunned by her outburst. He just stared blankly at her with those red eyes, looking utterly lost.
Xu Xinghe couldn’t help but sigh. Why was she even angry at him? She might as well just spoil him a little more from now on.
Fu Tingshen let himself be led by the hand by Xu Xinghe to the bathroom to wash up, and then they left that messy room behind.
Even after lying down in her bed, Fu Tingshen’s eyes remained wide open staring at her.
After washing up, Xu Xinghe was wearing a cream-colored camisole nightgown and a light outer robe. Under the warm lighting, she seemed to glow.
The other side of the bed sank down as Fu Tingshen lay on his side, looking at the woman before him as if he could never look at her enough.
“Baby, are you a fairy?” Fu Tingshen had wanted to ask this for a long time, but he was afraid that if the fairy was discovered, she would have to return to the fairy world. He simply didn’t dare to ask.
Hearing such a childish question, Xu Xinghe couldn’t help but laugh. Actually, she didn’t know if she counted as a fairy either. As long as she could remember, she had been sleeping among the stars.
But seeing Fu Tingshen looking at her so expectantly, waiting for an answer, she replied, “Yes. I’m your little fairy.”
“Mm. My little fairy. Mine.” A satisfied, gentle smile appeared on Fu Tingshen’s face. When he smiled, he looked incredibly youthful, without any of the intimidating pressure of his cold expression.
“Alright now.” Xu Xinghe laughed and raised her hand to cover his eyes, which were still reluctant to close. The dark circles under his eyes were quite severe. It was obvious that he hadn’t rested well in a long time.
“Little fairy says you must sleep obediently and have a sweet dream with a fairy in it~” Xu Xinghe’s lips curved upward slightly, carrying a trace of tenderness.
Fu Tingshen’s heart felt as if it had fallen into honey. He obediently murmured “Mm” and closed his eyes.
…
The fairy didn’t lie to him. He really did dream of her.
