Chapter 56 – The Owner of the Stray Kitten

Xu Xinghe went to her flower shop, cleaned up, and opened for business.
Afternoons were relatively quiet. Occasionally, she would sit at the counter and write her novel.
She wore her hair in a low bun, with a few stray strands framing her face. Her beautiful features made passersby turn their heads to look.
Xu Xinghe kept her head down and was fully focused on typing. She needed to give four thousand words to the platform.
Before she knew it, she was done. When she looked up, she met the eyes of someone outside the window. Xu Xinghe was puzzled. Why was this person just standing there blankly?
She ignored him, packed up her computer, and prepared to go to the vet hospital to see the kitten.
Just as Xu Xinghe took off her apron, the crisp bell on the wooden door rang. She thought it was a customer and called out, “Welcome.”
She looked up and saw him, the same boy from before. He was still wearing a nearby school uniform. He must be a student at some school.
Wu Yu was a bit shy. He stood outside the door for a long time before deciding to come in. He had just been staring at her blankly. How embarrassing.
“Miss… may I have your contact information?” Wu Yu’s face was bright red. This was the first time he had taken the initiative to ask a girl for her number. It really was hard to speak up.
Xu Xinghe was stunned for a moment. She didn’t expect him to come in just to ask for her number. After all, he looked very young, probably eighteen or nineteen years old.
“Sorry, but I already have a partner.” Xu Xinghe politely declined. She did have a partner, and he was waiting for her right now.
Wu Yu froze instantly. He really liked this young lady from the first moment he saw her. He didn’t want to give up.
But the lady said she had a partner. Was she married?
Wu Yu felt defeated. He nodded. “Sorry, miss. I understand.”
Wu Yu’s freshly bloomed flower of love withered instantly. He was so upset he decided not to eat dinner tonight.
After tidying up, Xu Xinghe rode her electric scooter to the vet hospital. It wasn’t far, just over ten minutes away.
By the time she arrived, the sky had gradually darkened.
Dr. Su led her to the pet observation room. “The kitten is recovering well. It should be able to leave the hospital soon.”
Hearing this, Xu Xinghe gave a faint smile and thanked him. “Thank you, Dr. Su.”
Su Bai felt his face flush slightly at her smile. He averted his gaze and looked at the kitten instead, only to notice that it had woken up at some point.
It was now staring at him with its green vertical pupils.
Xu Xinghe noticed it too. She leaned closer to the kitten. “You’re awake~”
Lin Mo’s eyes instantly turned to the woman. Did she save him? What did she want?
Her face was very close. Cats had better vision than humans, but he couldn’t find a single flaw on her face. Her small and oval face held large, delicate features. Her lips were rosy and glossy…
Lin Mo couldn’t help letting his thoughts wander. During his three years as a stray cat, he had endured endless suffering. He no longer believed that anyone would be good to him unconditionally.
“Mo Mo~”
Suddenly, someone called his name. Lin Mo’s head immediately shot up. It had been a long time since he heard his own name.
Xu Xinghe explained to the kitten, “You’re pitch black, the color of ink, so I’ll call you Mo Mo, okay?”
So it was ‘Mo’ as in ink. Lin Mo felt a twinge of disappointment at this realization.
Su Bai watched the girl talking to the kitten from the side. He had never met such an interesting and kind-hearted girl.
Lin Mo gently lifted his head and let out a soft “Meow,” as if agreeing.
Su Bai didn’t expect the kitten to be so intelligent as to respond to human speech.
Xu Xinghe smiled dotingly and reached out to poke Lin Mo’s little paw through the glass.
Lin Mo looked at the woman with the beautiful smile. He liked her smile, pure and clean.
But did she smile so beautifully at everyone?
Lin Mo thought about this in silence, especially about that vet next to him. The way he looked at her was far from innocent.
