Xu Xinghe had Yao Yao secretly tuck a bag of gold into Kabir’s robes. She didn’t like owing favors. It was time to go back.
Xu Xinghe emerged from the painting, picked up the painting on the rock, and walked in the direction the shadow guards had chased after.
She hadn’t gone far before she ran into the shadow guard unit. They slowly parted, and Xie Chenyuan rode out on his Ferghana horse.
He sat on the horse and looked down at her for a long while. Then he reached out his hand. “Get on.” Xie Chenyuan hadn’t rested all night, and his voice was a bit hoarse.
The moment Xu Xinghe placed her hand in his, she fell into a warm and broad embrace. She missed Xie Chenyuan too and was very worried about him.
She rested her head on Xie Chenyuan’s chest, listening to his slightly rapid heartbeat. She reached up to touch it. This heart always beat for her.
After dismounting, Xie Chenyuan picked her up and walked in silence. Xu Xinghe noticed that this wasn’t the path to the room she had been staying in before. She didn’t know where Xie Chenyuan was taking her.
But she wasn’t afraid. She trusted that Xie Chenyuan wouldn’t hurt her.
Xie Chenyuan carried Xu Xinghe and stood in front of a door that was taller than the doors of the other rooms. He was hesitating and struggling.
For a moment, he didn’t dare push open this door. What lay inside might shatter his beautiful dream.
“Creeak—”
Xu Xinghe reached out from his arms and pushed open the door. She looked up at his eyes. “Let’s go in, Ah Yuan.”
Xie Chenyuan’s body became uncontrollably stiff. He answered in a low voice, “Mm.”
Xu Xinghe looked inside. Her eyes widened instantly. In the center of the room stood a nearly two-story-high golden iron cage. It was made of pure gold!
Inside the cage were furniture, a large bed, tables and chairs. It was clearly meant to confine someone.
Xie Chenyuan’s arms holding her tightened almost imperceptibly. He was truly afraid now.
Xu Xinghe patted Xie Chenyuan’s hand, signaling him to put her down.
Xie Chenyuan’s face was stubborn. He refused to let go. Xu Xinghe had no choice but to let Xie Chenyuan hold her closer.
“Ah Yuan, is this for me?” She reached out and touched the golden cage.
Xie Chenyuan didn’t know how to respond. He was afraid that Xing’er would be angry and ignore him.
Seeing that Xie Chenyuan didn’t answer, Xu Xinghe cupped his face in her hands and kissed him right between his eyebrows under his puzzled eyes.
This kiss carried tenderness and a cherishment for him. Xie Chenyuan could feel it. His heart was trembling violently in his chest.
“Xing’er… don’t be angry.” Xie Chenyuan’s eyes were rimmed with red, his tone pleading.
Xu Xinghe shook her head and and said with a faint smile, “I like it very much. Ah Yuan, let’s go inside and have a look, okay?”
Xie Chenyuan couldn’t believe it. He had imagined countless scenarios of Xing’er hating him, but he never expected her to be willing to open the iron door of the cage that would confine her.
“Okay.”
Xu Xinghe looked around curiously. The cage was truly enormous. It clearly couldn’t have been built in a short time. It seemed Ah Yuan had been planning this for a while, right?
She had Xie Chenyuan put her down on the large bed. The bed was so big that five Xie Chenyuans could lie on it, so she took his belt and pulled Xie Chenyuan down to lie beside her.
How could Xie Chenyuan possibly be pulled down by someone as petite as her? He was deliberately indulging her and following her movements.
The two lay flat in their backs like this. Xu Xinghe turned sideways to look at Xie Chenyuan’s profile and said slowly, “Ah Yuan, are you happy right now?”
Xie Chenyuan nodded slightly. Then the next moment, that soft little hand rested on his heart. Whenever she touched him, his heart beat especially fast.
“Mm. Your heart tells me that Ah Yuan is very happy right now.”
