Xu Xinghe breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that they finally believed her. Yu Wuxin probably hadn’t noticed it yet, right? Hopefully…
The next moment, a cold pressure came from outside the hall. The white-bearded elder who had been slow to run felt a chill run down his spine. Those two old bastards had set him up!
Xu Xinghe sensed that it was Yu Wuxin. She kicked off her remaining shoe and ran towards him.
Her red dress trailed behind her in a beautiful arc, like a fairy from a dream feeding on human vitality. Yu Wuxin didn’t let her run more than a few steps. With a teleport, the next moment she was pulled into an embrace that smelled of bamboo forest.
“Ah Yu! I’m so scared.” Xu Xinghe buried her face in Yu Wuxin’s chest and said in a soft voice.
Yu Wuxin gently stroked the back of her head with his large hand. The motion was exactly the same as when she petted Little White.
Yu Wuxin was silent for a few seconds and then suddenly spoke, “Xing’er is not good. She should be punished.”
Xu Xinghe didn’t rush to argue. Instead, she gently ran her hand up and down Yu Wuxin’s back. She could feel his fear, fear that she had left.
After making sure Yu Wuxin’s emotions had stabilized a bit, Xu Xinghe took his hand, led him outside, then cupped his face in her hands and made him look directly into her eyes.
“Ah Yu, listen to me carefully. I will not leave you. Not now, not ever. That will never change.” Xu Xinghe’s voice was soft and gentle, her eyes full of sincerity.
She understood his insecurity.
Yu Wuxin’s face was a little pale, but inside he couldn’t help feeling happy because of her words. She said she would never leave him. She also said it would never change.
“Liar.” Yu Wuxin’s voice was muffled, but his face couldn’t help nuzzling against her palm.
Xu Xinghe knew he wasn’t angry anymore. She gave a soft “Mm.” “Should be punished.”
She grabbed Yu Wuxin’s collar, stood on her tiptoes, and followed the shape of the man’s soft yet firm lips. She took the initiative to deepen the kiss, lips met lips, breaths intertwined, eyes gently closed.
Yu Wuxin went from being at a loss at first to being unable to control himself later. Seeing her try to pull back, his eyes darkened. “Not enough…”
He didn’t let her go. He lowered his head and kissed her again. In the end, it was his own breathing that became erratic, gradually spiraling out of control.
When they finally parted, Yu Wuxin looked at her red and swollen lips and almost couldn’t stop himself again.
Xu Xinghe quickly covered her mouth. Was he a dog? He kissed her lips until they were swollen and still wanted to kiss more!
Xu Xinghe was tightly held by Yu Wuxin’s hand the entire way back, as if letting go for even a moment would make her run away.
“Ah Yu! I told the elders I’m your fiancée. You’re not angry, are you?” She glanced sideways at Yu Wuxin, who had his arm around her, and asked softly.
Yu Wuxin’s eyes flashed, as if he had suddenly figured something out. He gave a low “Mm.”
“Couldn’t ask for more.”
…
Li Cuihua’s life lately had been stretched thin. She was physically and mentally exhausted. The money she had taken from home was all spent by Wang Tiezhu. The household didn’t even have money to buy rice anymore.
Wang Tiezhu still drank until the sun was high in the sky before being helped back home. When drunk, he would go on a rampage. At first, she could tolerate it. She thought it was manly.
But after being beaten so many times, she was truly terrified. She would hide outside until dawn before coming back.
She kept telling herself that Brother Tiezhu would change. He had promised her that he wouldn’t hit her anymore. She had to believe him!
So that day, Li Cuihua didn’t hide outside. She took care of Wang Tiezhu and gave him water. Then unsurprisingly, she got beaten again. This time, it was especially bad.
That day, one of Li Cuihua’s front teeth was knocked out.
The next day, Wang Tiezhu didn’t apologize to her at all. He couldn’t be bothered to pretend anymore. Changing was impossible.
In the middle of the night, Li Cuihua’s stomach ached from hunger. Wang Tiezhu’s did too.
“Cuihua, find a way for it. You don’t want to see me starve to death, do you?”
