Chapter 36: Dean of Teaching Affairs
by WuWangChapter 36: Dean of Teaching Affairs
Soon, Louis had finished counting the Gold Galleons from those four men.
“Only a bit over thirty Gold Galleons in cash?” Louis looked at the pile of checks on the ground and shook his head.
These four men actually had quite a bit of wealth, but it was all in the bank. The money pouches held a bunch of unsigned checks, which couldn’t be cashed. It would just end up benefiting the Ministry of Magic.
“Including the bounty, if we gather it all, we can have over a thousand Gold Galleons! Stuart, do you think I need anything right now?”
Louis looked at the mirror, raised his eyebrows, and seemed to remember something, saying happily, “Today I saw a wizard robe in Blackhorn Alley. It was quite nice. I heard it was made from basilisk leather, using a lot of Magic Spells and Potions during the tanning process—but it costs over a thousand Gold Galleons, which is a bit too expensive.”
[My lord, if it’s a magic robe you want, I suggest you get one custom-made.] As he said this, Stuart suddenly bowed, looking very much like the ‘humble underling’. [In the past, I specialized in making magic robes for the Witch Queen. You know, I am a Magic Mirror. When it comes to tailoring skills, there are few tailors in the world who can compare to me.]
Louis’s eyes immediately lit up. He recalled the ability listed in Stuart’s notes in the Storybook:
【Tailoring Lv5】
[You mentioned basilisk leather earlier—you have good taste, but I think a magic robe made from Sea Serpent hide might suit you better. Some merchants in the Dark Domain recently obtained a fine Sea Serpent skin. I was originally planning to make such a robe to present to the Witch Queen. So I already have all the other materials, and I’ve been preparing for a while. With your thousand Gold Galleons, it’s enough—I promise once you wear it, you can transform into a terrifying magic serpent, summoning wind and rain.]
It was also an expense of a thousand Gold Galleons, but Stuart’s thousand Gold Galleons was the manufacturing cost!
And the craftsmanship of that basilisk robe maker certainly couldn’t compare to Stuart’s.
“Good, it’s settled then. How long will it take to finish?”
[If it’s an ordinary robe…] As Stuart spoke, a ball of thread flew out from his sleeve. Under his Magic Spell, the thread rapidly wove itself into a wizard robe, visible to the naked eye.
Much faster than a weaving machine.
[My lord, an ordinary robe uses ordinary methods. But only if Magic Spells are applied during processes like tanning hides, spinning thread, and so on, can it be considered a true magic robe. So this will take quite some time. However, I think if you could lend a little help, it should be quick—your Magic Spell proficiency is higher than mine. If you have time, we can start by spinning some thread now.]
As he said this, Stuart waved his hand, and then the Magic Mirror turned, aiming at a nearby stone table. Immediately, the stone table transformed, covered by a thick, dense layer of Spiderwebs—obviously, these magic spider silks were unprocessed materials.
“Then let’s give it a try.” As he spoke, Louis reached out and pulled Stuart towards him, and the two merged into one. Under Stuart’s guidance, they started working that very night.
The Energy Infusion had about seven or eight minutes left. Louis stretched these seven or eight minutes into an hour’s worth of time.
Louis’s shadow—that is, Stuart—was there constantly spinning thread, while Louis himself kept following Stuart’s instructions, placing Magic Spells on the threads.
Later, Louis simply picked up Grudge and, using the Hydra’s trait, began multi-casting. In just a few seconds, his Mana could be completely drained.
A few minutes later, Grudge actually developed a slight crack. Louis, heart aching, put it away. Half an hour later, the Magic Mirror also developed a slight crack (Stuart was exhausted and hurt). The two had to stop working.
By now, the Spiderwebs that had covered the entire long table had all been turned into thread.
Tomorrow, once Stuart bought the leather, they could start tanning it.
Stuart said weakly, [My lord, working with you feels like working with hundreds of Wizards and Witches at the same time… I think, in less than a week, you’ll be able to wear the magic robe.]
Louis checked the time. It was Monday today. He would definitely be able to wear it next week.
‘Perfect timing for next week’s trip to Blackhorn Alley. For the next seven days, I’ll just practice Magic Spells or find something else to do.’
Before leaving, Louis repaired both the Magic Mirror and his Wand. Then he left the place and returned to the dormitory.
It was odd; Ocris was actually there today. Judging by her new wizard robe, it seemed she had finally been promoted to the Dean of Teaching Affairs position she had always dreamed of.
However, she seemed to have a stern look on her face today. She was standing by the door holding an iron ruler, watching the time.
‘What’s going on?’
Just as Louis was curious, he saw Helen, who was standing in punishment in the Living Room. She was rubbing her bottom and secretly stuck her tongue out at Louis.
This made Louis suspect that this girl hadn’t gone to the Laboratory today but had gone somewhere else to play. She probably came back a bit late, and today Ocris suddenly showed up, catching her red-handed.
But judging by Helen’s expression, she probably hadn’t confessed under Ocris’s interrogation.
Looking at the iron ruler Ocris held… Louis couldn’t help but glance at the clock above him.
He seemed to have come back five or six hours later than Helen.
“Go stand over there!” Ocris said coldly.
Louis rubbed his face.
Although Ocris was only three years older than Louis, she had the full demeanor of a teacher. The iron ruler in her hand wasn’t idle either; seeing Louis approach, she gave him a few smacks on the thigh.
Not very damaging, but quite humiliating.
After scolding both of them harshly, Ocris got angry. She said that recently, with her being away, the two students had become too slack, especially Louis, who came back even later than Helen!
Then she wanted to quiz them on their recent studies.
So it was the new Dean of Teaching Affairs wanting to show her authority…
Looking at this older sister who was only three years his senior, Louis had no choice but to put on an act to satisfy Ocris’s desire.
But perhaps Louis’s performance was a bit too perfunctory, which greatly annoyed Ocris.
She used it as an excuse to quiz Louis on his studies. However, Louis answered fluently. She asked many questions, and he answered them all perfectly. In the end, Louis even answered questions that Ocris herself wasn’t very clear about.
Ocris suddenly realized this was a scholar with more solid Magic knowledge than her.
So annoying.
Not happy.
So she turned to interrogate Helen. Sure enough, this girl couldn’t hold out for more than two rounds and broke down. This made Ocris feel better.
She then used Louis coming home late as a reason to scold him again, finally venting her anger.
Ocris reprimanded the two, left a pile of homework and a book list, and told them to write a self-criticism letter. After this, Ocris’s mood finally improved.
“If you can’t pass the Wizard Examination after the term starts, you’ll be in big trouble!” Ocris glared at them both, then with a stern face, swayed her hips and went back to her room.
‘Ocris is about twenty-three or twenty-four, right? Never had a boyfriend, and already a Dean of Teaching Affairs… Tsk.’
Looking at that graceful figure walking away, Louis expressed concern for Ocris’s future.
Beside him, Helen was already writing furiously. Louis glanced at the Storybook and rubbed his face.
【A. Write a proper self-criticism letter, be a good kid in the future. Completion reward: Teacher’s praise1, EXP+5】
【B. Charge into Ocris’s room, take revenge by giving her bottom a good smacking, teaching her what a real self-criticism is. Completion reward: You know.】
【C. Include Helen. Completion reward: Random attribute+1】
Removing hemorrhoids, babysitting, writing self-criticism letters…
Other people who cross over do big things, okay?
What are my daily tasks?
Louis directly ignored B and C. As for the self-criticism, he absolutely wouldn’t write it.
Who cares about those 5 EXP points?
“Finished.” Helen stretched happily, as if writing self-criticism letters was already second nature to her.
Louis smiled and turned to look at Helen.
“What are you looking at me for? I’m not going to write your self-criticism for you!”
“Haha.” Louis wasn’t bothered; he chuckled. “Helen, I heard you secretly went to Blackhorn Alley today with your little friends?”
Helen’s eyes widened, nearly saying out loud—how did you know?
“Ahem, what’s Blackhorn Alley?” Helen looked up with an innocent, clueless expression.
Louis smiled and took out a small note.
Helen snorted dismissively. She remembered her note said she was going to her sister’s Laboratory to prepare stone fairy water.
Her sister wasn’t at the Lab today, so this note could prove her innocence.
But when Helen glanced at the writing on the note, she looked up in stunned disbelief, then snatched the small note and tore it to shreds.
Helen laughed triumphantly. “Hmph, foolish Louis, now the evidence is destroyed, right?”
Louis laughed too.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out another small note.
Helen looked at Louis in disbelief. “You big liar! You big bad guy! My sister won’t believe you! Hmph.”
“Then I’ll go ask her.” Louis stood up.
“Don’t…” Helen, the habitual offender, grabbed Louis’s sleeve and pleaded softly, “I’ll do whatever you say, okay?”
Clearly, this girl had a prior record.
Louis patted Helen’s head, smiled, and went back to his room. He left behind only a pouting Helen writing her self-criticism letter.
The 5 EXP wasn’t important. The main thing was that a thorough self-criticism would be beneficial for Helen’s growth.
Hmm, 18 years old, not a child anymore.
But for A? Definitely.
