Chapter 17: Call Me Grandma!
by WuWangChapter 17: Call Me Grandma!
After the great banker Mr. Barriff left, in the days that followed, almost no one visited this office anymore, except for the goblins of the Barriff family who would sneak over every now and then to deal with the ‘Ancient God’s Tendril’.
And these stingy goblins never paid any money, saying it was all charged to Barriff’s account…
Charging it…
These goblins looked all suited and booted, right? All were important people.
How could they possibly carry no money in their pockets?
They were clearly planning to refuse paying altogether.
For that little bit of experience, and looking at those raised rear ends, Louis still gritted his teeth and did the work.
Sister Stia secretly gave Louis a ‘Nutrition Express’ (‘anesthetic-type energizing stimulant potion’) every day, and these potions seemed to have a miraculous effect on this work.
Every goblin treated by Louis developed very high favorability towards him.
Also, when checking the appointment list, Louis discovered something very strange—exactly 19 goblins were in line!
The option for cross-species reproduction also involved 19 goblins. He wondered if that was a coincidence…
Besides goblins frequently visiting here, Night Watchmen were also regulars at the office.
They seemed to have come here often before, like asking the office loafers to help with a night shift, or saying some shop’s pet cat was lost and hoping the office could help find it.
Louis took on all these tasks.
Occasionally, there were also ‘international disputes’ like ‘a foreign grandpa argued with a market auntie over two copper coins while buying groceries.’
These trivial matters basically left the two of them bored out of their minds.
Louis could only comfort himself by saying it was summer vacation—just get through these two months.
At first, Helen practically treated this office as a library. Every day, besides reading and studying, she would ask Louis about magic spell knowledge. And to Louis’s great surprise, he could actually explain the principles.
He really knew them!
This made Helen’s progress in certain magic spells very quick, especially with the Transfer Spell.
Louis couldn’t help but marvel at Helen’s talent, because judging by this rate, her level in the Transfer Spell would catch up to his in about five or six years.
It seemed reaching tier 3 in a certain magic spell wasn’t an easy thing.
Louis was already quite skilled in the Transfer Spell.
He could now, while performing wandless magic, use the Transfer Spell to move a teapot’s spout to any position arbitrarily, even inside the pot.
And with the support of a wand, he could even make the kettle flip inside-out like a pulled-off sweater, or transfer the kettle spout to a distant wall.
If Director Trolove, who left the notes on the Transfer Spell, stood here and saw Louis’s operation, he would definitely widen his eyes and ask which magic spell this was.
In fact, when Louis practiced this magic spell to Lv4, he felt it was no longer the previous magic spell, and its name indeed changed: [Forbidden. Four-Dimensional Inversion Spell Lv4 (67/1000)].
For people like ‘Newton,’ it seemed magic spells could be reborn in a flash of insight as they deepened their understanding, becoming something entirely new.
Within that fragmented knowledge of time and space related to the Transfer Spell, Louis saw a four-dimensional cube, deciphered its mystery, and thus comprehended this magic spell.
It could no longer be called a Transfer Spell, because it could tear a person apart like building blocks, or even directly embed a person into a distant wall.
Louis had a feeling that when this magic spell reached Lv7, its effect would undergo another qualitative leap.
However, practicing to this point, Louis dared not practice further, because his wand seemed unable to bear the power of a magic spell at this level. It looked already a bit worn and tattered.
Louis had to temporarily switch to practicing ‘Quickly Refill.’ But when the office suddenly started to flood one day, he had to shift his focus to Helen’s Magic Notes, studying those magic spells.
Helen seemed quite expectant about this too. She thought Louis should learn these proper things, so she planned to give Louis some tutoring—or rather, teach this rascal a lesson, see him make a fool of himself, and let him know how formidable she was.
Hehehe.
—Mostly things like Binding Spell, Clothes-Removing Spell, Hanging Upside-Down Spell, and so on.
It seemed Helen usually fought with these things.
‘But I can’t just bind Helen, right?’ Looking at those narration lines, Louis rubbed his face.
[The bored Helen has issued you a duel invitation for the third time. You decide…]
[A. “Shoo, go play somewhere else, silly kid.”
Reward upon completion: Helen’s Unconvinced1, Helen’s Pestering1, Helen’s Pranks and TeasingN]
[B. “Hanging Upside-Down, Binding Spell, Clothes-Removing Spell!”
Reward upon completion: Helen Crying and Telling the Teacher1, Ocris’s Metal Ruler8, Written Self-Criticism1, Mana+1]
[C. “Grandma.”
Reward upon completion: Grandma+1, Experience+100]
A magic spell flew over. Louis waved his hand and deflected it with a Protective Charm.
This move made Helen’s big eyes blink—sure enough, this villain Louis had been holding back!
Not to mention ordinary adult wizards, not even all the Agents from the Ministry of Magic could use the Protective Charm!
And this guy used it so proficiently!
“Hmph hmph, evil Dark Wizard, you’re exposed!” Helen said, hands on her hips. “Today is your doom!”
“Heh.” Louis didn’t utter a word, just flipped through a language book he had borrowed from the Library these past couple of days.
“Coward, are you scared?!” Helen ran behind the desk, fiercely and wildly waving her wand. “Call me Grandma! Call me Grandma and I’ll let you off!”
A few more magic spells flew over. Louis casually knocked them away. Moments later, Louis seemed to have found what he was looking for. Then, looking at the annoying girl before him, he grinned menacingly. “You brought this on yourself. Watch me take down your little grandma!”
[Experience+100]
Helen froze for a moment, not understanding, because Louis had just spoken in ‘Patyan.’
The word for ‘grandma’ sounded like the pronunciation for ‘grandmother,’ but the syllables were weird. After translation, it meant—Helen’s face flushed bright red. She looked at that scoundrel in disbelief, then a fierce Leg-Weakening Spell shot over. “Just wait, I’ll teach you a lesson, you weakling!”
After a thoroughly satisfying fierce battle, Louis was flabbergasted.
He originally thought Helen was done for this time, but Louis was utterly bewildered to find he actually couldn’t quite beat her!
In fact, Louis had an endless variety of magic spells up his sleeve—not only fast and accurate, but also from tricky angles. And during their practice bouts, Louis would often use various objects and blind spots in the room.
Combined with some minor tricks, Louis became elusive within the office. Occasionally, when Helen’s magic spell finally caught up to him, he would wave his sleeve and scatter it—this move made Helen’s jaw drop.
She had heard of the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor who used the Protective Charm to perfection, casting it so fast people couldn’t see the shield flicker, or forming a small protective shield on their hand.
But this was the first time she had seen someone use a wand, or even a sleeve, to scatter another person’s magic spell.
One could say all of Louis’s various techniques made Helen shout “666,” but this little newbie actually fought Louis to a standstill.
She would just stand there, rooted to the spot, outputting spells. Every time Louis’s magic spell flew towards her, she would screech in fright—those spells were fast and powerful; her Protective Charm was either too slow to use or couldn’t block them.
But what left Louis dumbfounded was that even though his magic spells hit Helen every time, even many times when he intentionally let spells fly under her skirt, they never took effect on Helen!
After a few days, Helen, who only knew how to stand and cast, suddenly became more and more formidable—not because she learned Louis’s tricks.
But because, after these past couple days of stationary practice, the magic spells she released were getting faster and faster!
Louis was thrown into disarray…
This baffled Louis. Clearly, many of his magic spells had already reached Lv3, even a fly flying past over ten meters away could be bound and have its pants removed by him. Yet he couldn’t beat Helen.
“It must be an equipment problem!” Louis said with great conviction, looking at his rows of Lv3 and Lv4 magic spells.
“You’re just bad,” Helen blinked, putting on an innocent face.
Looking at the rows of Lv1 spells belonging to Helen in the Storybook, Louis fell into deep thought.
It wasn’t until one day, when Louis’s Clothes-Removing Spell reached Lv5, that Helen crouched behind the desk, crying and saying she would never play with him again.
She also said she would tell her sister.
How could that be?
We just took off one piece of clothing, and you’re saying it’s over?
“Hehe, Helen, come here, let me show you something good—something you’ve been looking forward to for a long time.”
Louis pulled out the big treasure he had been planning for a long time.
