Chapter 112: The Strange Punk Gundam Model
by WuWangChapter 112: The Strange Punk Gundam Model
After Louis called for Ron, Necromancer Cardi, and the others, the group went downstairs.
At the entrance, the agents, including Jerry, curiously checked the vintage car with magic and found it was indeed broken. He saw that his boss didn’t even glance at the vintage car and went straight to the taxis.
‘What a coincidence!’ Jerry thought to himself, looking at those taxis. ‘Taxis are rare these days, and they usually don’t come to the Muddy District!’
“Do you know where the car exhibition is? How exactly do we get there?” Louis leaned against the taxi window and looked at the driver. He couldn’t help but blink his eyes—oh! It was a beautiful Dragonborn lady!
Look at those little horns on her forehead. But why do female Dragonborn ladies have tails different from lizards? They looked very small, with a little arrowhead at the tip.
After hearing Louis’s question, the Dragonborn lady nodded and was about to get out of the car to open the door for this gentleman. But then she found that this gentleman smiled, pinched her face, touched her horns, and then turned and walked away.
The Dragonborn lady’s heart sank—her superior had shown her the photo. This gentleman was definitely ‘Louis VI.’ If she didn’t get Mr. Louis to her boss’s boss’s boss, she would be in big trouble!
She quickly got out of the car and chased after him, calling out and trying to invite Louis into the car. But by then, Louis had already led the group through the door to the basement at the Mage Association entrance. The Dragonborn lady was stopped by two Dragonborn guards at the door.
She anxiously ran to a public phone booth and called her boss, explaining the situation.
A rough voice came from the phone: “The exhibition? Are you sure?”
Dragonborn lady: “I’m sure, Boss.”
“That beardless seashell!” A string of curses came through the phone. “Go tell the boss’s boss! That upright ape went to the exhibition!”
Meanwhile, after entering the basement, Louis first cast a protective spell on the vintage car outside from a distance. This was to make it convenient for the head butler Stuart to drive it over ‘intact’ tomorrow morning.
Then he ‘looked’ in the direction of the exhibition, searching for a suitable alley.
“Is it too late, Louis?” Kate said, glancing at the clock on the wall.
“Not late, not late at all,” Helen cried out.
“Ahem, it does seem a bit late,” Jerry said. “The exhibition is on the other side of the city. By the time we get there, it will be closed. Boss, we…”
Before he could finish, Jerry felt the world spin around him. Then the surrounding scene changed, and he soon found himself, along with everyone else, in a deserted alley near the car exhibition.
Ron and the others stared at Louis with excitement and curiosity in their eyes.
Jerry and the other agents were completely stunned.
The Mage Association was a distance of over thirty Blackhorn Alleys away from the car exhibition. A few days ago, Kevin told him that the new agent, Mr. Ross, was very skilled in Phantom Teleportation, taking more than ten of them across nearly half of Blackhorn Alley. He had been quite surprised when he heard that—not to mention that useless Kevin, even he couldn’t do it. He could only take six people at most.
Many agents looked at Louis blankly, only now remembering that Louis was originally a Wizard.
“Let’s go,” Louis patted Jerry’s little head, secretly pinched the stunned Kate’s bottom, took Helen and Kate by the hand, and walked away.
After exiting the alley, they saw the exhibition building across the street. The style of this building surprised Louis a bit. It was only three stories tall, but each floor had very high ceilings. Overall, it looked like a structure made of three rectangles of different sizes stacked on top of each other.
At the very top, there was a large round canopy-like dome.
This made it look a little bit like an airport terminal with an extra dome, but much ‘simpler’ compared to a terminal.
In front of the exhibition building was a small square with yellow dirt ground. The square was filled with many people, carriages, and even horses. There were quite a few vintage cars here, and many covered wagons too. Some people were performing tricks or circus acts near the wagons—it was very lively.
After entering the exhibition hall, Louis found that there was actually only one main hall, but it was very wide and deep. The entire hall was interconnected vertically, with many large trees standing inside as scenery.
On both sides of the main hall were small rooms built with simple steel frames, arranged in rows from the entrance all the way to the far end. The first floor consisted of these small rooms, and the second floor was a gallery. Many items were on display in the small rooms and the central main hall. There were many visitors in the main hall on the first floor and in the corridors on the second floor, all taking photos of the various items in the central hall.
There was still more than an hour before closing time, so the crowd had thinned out somewhat. But the staff were still very diligent.
After wandering around for a while, Louis found that there was everything here: clocks, statues, artworks, antiques. There were even ship models and that punk-style ‘Gundam’ model—three stories tall, standing there like a big tree. It was the brightest thing in the whole venue.
But it seemed to be made of paper, and it wasn’t fully assembled yet. It looked like the model was originally intended to be five or six stories tall, but they found this place was too small, making the proportions off. So they reassembled it, making it smaller.
There were many people gathered around it. A few Yordel Engineers were there very proudly explaining something. But they were too far away, so it was hard to hear clearly.
Louis couldn’t help but blink his eyes—this artwork was quite well done. People in this fantasy world really loved to fantasize, even putting a Gundam model here to play with. It was as if such a thing really existed.
The crowd was too big, so Louis and the others didn’t squeeze in. Ron and Jerry suggested going upstairs, where the view was better. Louis was too lazy to move, and the two ladies didn’t want to go upstairs either. So the three of them didn’t go up with them. Instead, they stayed in the crowd downstairs, looking at that punk Gundam for a while.
This paper model was quite strange. If you said it was simple, it had a paper crystal on its chest, making it look a bit magical.
But if you said it was high-class, it had various little chimneys all over its body. The cannon barrels on its back were inserted messily, like steel bars in a ruin.
The Gundam’s arms were even more exaggerated. One arm was a Fire God-style rotary heavy machine gun, its firepower probably comparable to an anti-aircraft gun.
The right arm was a thing like a woodcutter’s large circular saw—with a small sign hanging on it that read ‘Jing Jin,’ meaning this thing was forged from Jing Jin.
And from the model’s design, it seemed this woodcutter’s large circular saw could fly out and then be pulled back!
What made Louis feel even more eerie was that on the butt of this punk Gundam, there were many rocket bottom thrusters, making it look like it could really fly.
Moreover, on the punk Gundam’s body, there were chains meant to pull its own body. It seemed that when the ‘punk Gundam’ was about to fly, these chains had to be shot into the ground first. This was to prevent it from flying too high when the rocket engines started, causing it to fall apart when it landed.
‘It really is ugly enough! If this thing were real, who could possibly make it work?’
[If anyone became the pilot, they would have to be careful…]
Louis shook his head, feeling a bit speechless.
Not to mention this thing must be pure fantasy, even if it were really invented, wouldn’t it just be used to trick people?
But to be honest, a gigantic thing five or six stories tall… If such a thing really existed, and you put a bold Wizard who knew the technology and wasn’t afraid to die inside, then it might actually be able to work. Would you even need those chains then? Just activate the rocket thrusters, and the big mech and that large circular saw could fly together. It might even be able to dodge all anti-aircraft fire with sharp-angle turns during high-speed flight, destroying ground facilities.
Or during aerial combat, it could saw biplanes, or even Fire Dragons, cleanly in half.
And judging from the structure of this punk mech model, its armor was terrifyingly strong. Ordinary artillery fire probably couldn’t pierce it.
So if it could really move, it would be much more fearsome than any ‘Dragon Slayer Gundam.’
Its only weakness was that it was afraid of Magic.
But if they applied Magic Spells to each part of the punk mech during forging, then its magic resistance would be higher than that of Sea Serpent robes. Magic Spells below Lv4 would be immune to it. It could even withstand Dragon Breath and cut a dragon down.
But the key point was, this thing looked like an immature piece of technology.
It was likely that even without anyone attacking it, it might just fall apart on its own while flying.
After watching for a while, the two ladies lost interest. So Louis took them to leave. He looked up at Jerry and the others upstairs and saw that those guys were all staring at him with shining eyes.
Some of the little Yordle agents were excitedly whispering among themselves. They kept looking at that punk Gundam, then looking at Louis, their faces full of curiosity (and full of expectation).
With so many people around, Louis was too lazy to read minds. ‘What’s so curious? These little Yordles, they all really like these strange and weird things. Usually, the Yordles at the academy also enjoy crafting strange and weird steel golems with Alchemy.’
