Volume 6 + Chapter 88: The Molent Typewriter

Lao Huo pulled the trigger in his hand. Flames burst from the black weapon’s muzzle as something tore through the air and shot toward Xia Yi.

Although she had no idea what it was, Xia Yi instinctively sensed danger. Guided by a Sword Saint’s battle instincts, her body moved on its own as she dodged to the side.

    Bang!

A glass on the table shattered instantly, and an expensive leather sofa exploded with a massive hole punched through it as fragments scattered through the air.

Had she not possessed a Sword Saint’s instincts, she likely would have been struck directly.

“What astonishing reflexes. But can you keep dodging forever?” Lao Huo said coldly.

    “Could this be…?”

    Xia Yi frowned.

She suddenly remembered that in the human world of her own era, there had once existed a special weapon known as a firearm, also called a gun.

By harnessing the explosive force of gunpowder, it fired bullets capable of killing enemies.

These weapons had enjoyed popularity for a period of time because even ordinary people without mana could wield them. That was what made them unique.

However, that era did not last long. The destructive power of guns was vastly inferior to magic. Their bullets couldn’t even pierce magical barriers, and in the end, the technology had been abandoned.

In the newest branch of human magitech research, however, there have been renewed studies regarding firearms. Some researchers proposed infusing bullets with mana, creating efficient killing weapons capable of piercing magical defenses.

But the concept had remained purely theoretical. Technical limitations made further development impossible.

    “So this… is a gun?”

    Xia Yi finally understood.

This was technology achievable only in the Mythic Era.

Mana had been infused into bullets propelled by gunpowder, granting them destructive power entirely different from the firearms she knew. The gun in Lao Huo’s hands could even shatter magical barriers.

“Miss Xia Yi, are you from some remote countryside? Is this your first time seeing a gun?”

After emptying his magazine, Lao Huo casually tossed the gun aside.

A waiter immediately handed him a fresh one while disengaging the safety.

“This weapon is called the Molent Typewriter. They’re not easy to obtain… but this is the Land of Freedom. As long as you have money and connections, nothing is impossible.”

Xia Yi glanced around and realized everyone present was equipped with Molent Typewriters.

Now she understood why Lao Huo had been so confident.

Even someone weak could unleash attack power beyond their realm if they wielded firearms.

And with enough people, even a powerful expert could be killed through sheer numbers.

“In front of guns, all those fancy combat techniques are complete bullshit!”

    Lao Huo roared.

    “Fire!!!”

Almost everyone opened fire on Xia Yi simultaneously. Bullets rained toward her like a storm.

“If these hit me, they’re definitely going to hurt like hell!”

Although Xia Yi believed the magical bullets probably wouldn’t kill her, there were simply too many. She’d likely end up riddled with wounds.

She dove behind a massive pillar nearby, using it as cover.

    Bang bang bang bang bang!

The people of Old Times Wine Café unleashed relentless gunfire, spraying bullets as though ammunition cost nothing. Within mere seconds, the pillar was riddled with holes and completely ruined as cover.

Xia Yi immediately dashed toward the next piece of cover. She moved so quickly that even with guns, they could barely track her movements, only managing to hit her afterimages.

“Don’t stop! Keep firing!” Lao Huo continued issuing commands.

“Maintain distance and suppress her with firepower!”

Thus, the people of Old Times Wine Café turned the situation into a cat-and-mouse hunt.

Using their guns, they chased Xia Yi like a frantic little mouse fleeing around the room. The pursuit continued for over ten minutes.

The entire hall had become a complete wreck, riddled everywhere with savage bullet holes.

At that moment, Xia Yi hid behind the final remaining piece of cover.

“Miss Xia Yi, there’s no cover left for you anymore. Are you still planning to run?”

Lao Huo raised a hand, signaling everyone to cease fire, and addressed Xia Yi with the composure of a victor.

“Miss Xia Yi, I know dragon bodies are incredibly durable, but you definitely can’t withstand that many bullets. To spare yourself unnecessary suffering, you should come out and surrender. The moment you step out, I’ll stop attacking.”

    “……”

After hearing Lao Huo’s proposal and noticing the gunfire had ceased, Xia Yi considered it briefly before standing up and walking out.

“So you’ve finally decided to surrender?”

    Lao Huo laughed.

“Miss Xia Yi, that’s a wise choice indeed. Come to my side. Follow me from now on, and I can give you many things you desire.”

“Surrender? I never had such an idea. You misunderstood.”

“If not surrendering, then what? Continue running?”

    “I wasn’t running at all.”

    Xia Yi denied his accusation.

“What stubbornness. Looks like I’ll have to teach you a lesson!”

Without warning, Lao Huo raised his gun and pulled the trigger again. He immediately broke his promise and attacked Xia Yi.

    Xia Yi’s body sensed danger.

But this time, she didn’t dodge.

Her pupils contracted sharply. In a lightning-fast instant, she raised her hand.

    An unbelievable scene unfolded,

Xia Yi’s slender fingers caught the bullet in midair.

    “T-That’s impossible!!”

    Lao Huo roared in disbelief.

The others couldn’t believe their eyes either. Xia Yi had actually caught a bullet barehanded.

Even with the power of a dragon, that reaction speed was absurd.

“My, my… it still took me a little while to adapt.”

Xia Yi rolled the bullet around in her palm before casually tossing it to the floor.

    “What do you mean… adapt?”

Lao Huo froze for a moment. Then realization struck him.

His body trembled, his face turned pale, and his composure crumbled.

“You mean… you were adapting to the speed of the bullets?!”

“Yep. Those things would hurt if they hit me, so I had to get used to their speed first. Once I mastered it, moving became easy.”

“Absurd! Completely absurd! I’ve never heard of anyone adapting to bullet speed!”

Lao Huo completely lost his composure and began shouting hysterically.

“You’re full of shit! It was just luck!!!”

    His gun fired again.

Xia Yi casually snatched up an iron rod from the ground. Guided by the Heart of the Sword Saint, she swung it at incredible speed, unleashing sword energy that wove into an airtight web of blades.

    Clang clang clang clang clang!

After a shower of sparks, the iron rod in Xia Yi’s hand shattered apart.

But at her feet now lay a pile of bullets sliced cleanly in half.

    “……”

    Lao Huo stood frozen.

His magazine was empty, yet he hadn’t managed to injure Xia Yi even once.

And while cutting down those bullets,

She hadn’t even moved her feet.

    “That’s it?”
