Chapter 101: The Strange Baron Title
by WuWangChapter 101: The Strange Baron Title
‘This must definitely be related to the King’s birthday. Could it be that the Wizards will also participate in this grand event? And hold a special celebration in the colosseum?’
Louis shook his head and temporarily set this matter aside. He continued to check his rewards.
One was Earl Crowley’s payment: £8000 (to be collected).
But he felt a bit reluctant to take this reward, as it felt awkward.
It wasn’t about any father-in-law issues.
Now, his relationship with Crowley was one of cooperation. Accepting money felt too low—just like with the Barriff Family. Their relationship was no longer about money.
When he needed to do certain things, when he truly needed large sums of money, these people would all blindly invest, begging him to accept it so they could get a share.
Now, he had two thousand pounds in pocket money, and over a thousand Gold Galleons. If exchanged on the black market, it would be roughly over seven thousand pounds.
He wouldn’t need this pocket money for his serious work. He could buy some gifts—like things for the little foxes of various sizes. Or buy a vintage car for the Helen sisters to play with in the Wizard areas.
Other Wizards couldn’t use Muggle items at the Holy Icon Tree, but special nobles and Princess Ocris were under no such restrictions.
As for Kate…
Last night in her sleep, she said she wanted to buy him a luxury car…
[Obviously, what you said yesterday, ‘Once this is done, I’ll get one too,’ was remembered by the rich young lady.]
Louis rubbed his face.
‘I don’t even plan to take the Earl’s reward, how could I take your car?’
Louis was spacing out by the windowsill. On the other side, Kate in the bed had woken up. Looking at the firm lines of Louis’s back, her face turned slightly red.
What a reserved young man… it was all an act!
Yesterday, he tricked her into entering the room—then immediately grabbed and held her!
She had never been so close to a man before; he was too bold…
He even lied, saying he would only rub and not go in…
Thinking of this, Kate couldn’t help but feel like crying. If not for her somewhat special situation, a proper noble young lady having this happen before marriage, she might as well die…
But Kate couldn’t help recalling that kiss. In that moment, looking into Louis’s fiery eyes, she threw everything else from her mind. After all, she had missed him for a long time…
It was as if he knew her heart…
And pierced into it…
This was the person in her heart… a brave Knight. Even more unimaginable, he was also a Mage…
In this world, there probably weren’t many people like him. She was willing to clean his room for him…
Right, last night was just cleaning the room, nothing happened.
Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door, seemingly from a servant.
Kate was so startled she scrambled to sit up. She pretended to have just woken up.
“Oh my, I actually fell asleep… what happened? Oh my! Where is this? I, how did I sleep here, I drank too much last night…”
Hearing Kate still pretending, Louis turned his head and looked at this charming ‘young lady.’ He smiled and walked over.
“What are you going to do? Louis, don’t fool around… don’t fool around… forget about yesterday… oh my, put me down, I need to go back to my room…”
Listening to the strange sounds coming from inside the room, Kate’s chief maid at the door fell into thought and finally decided it was better not to disturb the master inside.
She shooed away the lower servant who was about to come clean the fireplace nearby, then went to the young lady’s room to cover for her—Mother was surely angry by now.
When the maid came back an hour later, she saw the young lady inside the door, who had just gotten dressed and was frantically straightening her skirt—seemingly about to leave, running right into the maid face-to-face.
‘Damn it!’ Both cursed in their hearts the moment their eyes met.
“Oh, heavens, miss, look, it’s all my fault. I woke up too late. I actually let you come here first,” the chief maid said with a smile, blocking the doorway. The other servants behind her all lowered their heads and stepped further away.
“Ah? Ah, yes, right, Bessie, I, I came to borrow a book.”
After chatting for a few sentences, Kate returned to her room. Then, five or six servants knocked and entered Louis’s room. They found the gentleman sitting on the sofa, flipping through a few books. He seemed to be looking at something—the chief maid remembered, those books seemed to be Mr. Ron’s mystical books.
The many servants didn’t dare to look too much. They bustled about the room, pouring water, tidying up, changing bedsheets, cleaning the fireplace…
Only the chief maid occasionally stole glances at this young gentleman.
Unlike yesterday, he had changed clothes today. He wore suspender trousers on the bottom, a shirt on top, and a waistcoat covering the suspenders. A black felt hat and suit jacket were hanging on the corner of the sofa.
This outfit was the master’s suit from his youth. It was fetched by the servants yesterday when Miss Kate arranged the guest room. The maid had been a little worried that the clothes might be short—after all, the master’s height was 183 cm, but he seemed slightly shorter than this gentleman.
But unexpectedly, it fit him perfectly—as if the suit had grown larger (Magic).
He looked even more handsome and dashing in these clothes than the master did in his youth. From the slightly open shirt, one could see his not overly bulky but sharply defined lines, full of powerful beauty.
Seeing the gentleman put down the book and give her a gentle smile, the young and beautiful chief maid, looking at that sunshine-like smile, couldn’t help but feel dizzy and blushed intensely—no wonder the young lady was so fascinated…
“S-sir. Oh yes—this morning, a special visitor came to the castle, saying he was looking for you,” the chief maid quickly found a topic.
“Oh?” Louis asked.
“He said his name is Stuart—an old gentleman, very old, wearing a tall hat, a walking stick, with a pale, beardless face… probably, probably an old noble, or from the Royal Court…” The chief maid felt a bit awkward, not knowing how to put it.
“He has stayed at the Royal Court before,” Louis nodded, knowing this was likely arranged quietly by Ocris. Last night, Stuart seemed to have mentioned something; he hadn’t paid attention.
Stuart was the previous Witch Queen’s Magic Mirror. He served for three hundred years. After the Witch Queen married the King of the Sorrento United Kingdom, Stuart served as a eunuch in the Royal Palace for over ten more years (the reproductive method of Magic Mirror Nightmares is different from normal creatures; they are energy beings).
So Stuart had some connections in the Muggle World.
Presumably, Ocris hoped Stuart could help her make some contact with some old ministers in the Royal Court.
It was good for Stuart to meet these old ministers. However, those who would stand by the Princess’s side would be old scholars and traditional nobles without real power. They couldn’t offer much help regarding his ‘Baron’ matter or provide much assistance on Ocris’s path to the throne.
He still had to rely on himself for this—that was the birthday celebration.
But in a few days when he made an appearance at that ‘birthday celebration,’ someone had to cheer him on, right?
Ocris was helping him find a cheerleading squad.
Louis didn’t plan to waste time with these old ministers. Today, he had to go to the Mage Association to see—the Mages all had significant influence. They were the real big shots who could have a say in the Royal Court. With their backing, ordinary nobles wouldn’t dare offend Ocris. It would also make things much more convenient for him in the Muggle world later.
Louis planned to take these guys under his wing.
And if he could turn the Mysterious Affairs Office (a section-level unit) into an office established in Englen City, becoming a department-level unit shared by the Kingdom of Sorrento and the Wizards, that would be incredible.
This was a ‘chicken feather,’ but in his hands, it could be used as a commander’s arrow!
Then, when he, Baron Louis, the department head, handled affairs in various Muggle countries/Wizard principalities, solving mysterious events and gathering connections, it would be completely justified. Not only would he have the authority to command Agents, but also to command Mages and the Sorrento military!
Leading a fleet to handle business in Wizard territories would also be completely justified! Wizard nobles from various countries would have to open their doors for him!
After freshening up, Louis headed to the dining room.
At the dining room door, he saw Earl Crowley sitting at the table chatting with Stuart. Helen was also already up, sitting there waiting to eat. Seeing Louis just getting up, she pouted and gave him a sidelong glance—bookworm, always sleeping. He must have stayed up late reading again last night.
It seemed the Earl and Stuart were old acquaintances. Not having seen each other for years, they both felt sentimental.
The Earl had also just learned unexpectedly from Stuart that Helen was actually a relative of Queen Francesco, a princess of the duchy of ‘Elirinda’—this duchy was incredibly mysterious. If not for a few of his warships accidentally running aground on that duchy’s beach during a storm, he wouldn’t have known the place was so large!
It was unbelievable. It had a population of millions, mainly non-humans. But despite traveling far and wide, he had never been there.
Back then, when his major returned, he excitedly talked about how dragons actually existed in this world. At the time, he didn’t believe it—after all, when he sent people there again, they couldn’t find the place.
The mysterious Duchy of Elirinda had long been forgotten by him, becoming just a joke. But thinking of it again today, the Earl felt a sense of wonder—since his wife’s incident and meeting Mages, Louis, and others, Crowley had gradually begun to believe many things.
After all, the Magic he witnessed last night was so astounding.
If Magic and Wizards existed in this world, why couldn’t dragons?

This young Mr. Louis’s background seemed even more mysterious than he imagined—Miss Helen also seemed extremely close to him.
‘The Sacred Oak Academy…’ Earl Crowley frowned, falling into thought. He had some special impression of this academy but couldn’t remember clearly. But he guessed it wasn’t some theology academy; it might well be a Wizard academy…
