Volume 3 Chapter 22
by Golden DragonVolume 3 + Chapter 22: Little Sister Arrives
The next day, the cultural festival reached its climax, because on this day Ouyang Qianxue would personally perform on behalf of both the Music Club and the Hip-hop Dance Club.
Hearing the news, students flocked to queue outside the doors of the Hip-hop Dance Club and the Music Club. Before the clubs even opened, a long line of eager spectators had already formed at the entrances.
“Hey, is this for real? With this many people, there’s no way we’ll get in,” a few short-statured girls said dejectedly as they looked at the long queue in front of the Music Club.
“Qianyue, are you kidding me? Senior Ouyang is not only the school beauty of Sakura High but also the president of three clubs, she’s an idol in the hearts of students all across Xijiang City! How could we ever get in to see a performance by such a big shot?” Two girls beside Qianyue complained to her. These girls turned out to be Qianyue’s classmates.
“Hmph! Don’t worry, I have my ways.” Ouyang Qianyue remained as confident as ever. She pulled a ticket from her pocket, walked straight to the front of the line, and handed it to a student from the Music Club.
“Ah, this is…!” The Music Club student looked at the ticket in surprise, it actually bore Ouyang Qianxue’s own signature and the president’s official stamp.
“So you’re an acquaintance of President Ouyang! Please, come right in!” Several Music Club students quickly and respectfully ushered Ouyang Qianyue and her classmates inside.
“Qianyue, you’re amazing! You actually know Senior Ouyang!” Her classmates looked at her with admiration.
“Of course!” Ouyang Qianyue puffed out her modest chest with pride.
“Come to think of it, Ouyang Qianxue, Ouyang Qianyue. You share the same surname, and the first character of your given names is the same too. Could it be… could it be that the famous Senior Ouyang is actually your older sister or something?” One of her classmates suddenly realized something and asked Qianyue in shock.
“Is that true, Qianyue?” Another classmate was equally astonished.
“Well… Senior Ouyang and I are actually distant cousins separated by more than three generations. I only found out about her after overhearing our elders talk. So I tried reaching out to this distant cousin, and we hit it off, now Sister Qianxue treats me like her own little sister!” Qianyue said proudly.
The explanation about her identity had been crafted by Wang Qian, after all, family relations beyond three generations are hard to verify.
“So jealous!”
“What? You’re so lucky, Qianyue, to have a cousin like that! Maybe I’ll claim to be her distant relative too and try to get in touch with Senior Ouyang,” one of the girls beside Qianyue said excitedly.
“You’d better forget it. How many girls do you think are trying to get close to Senior Ouyang?” another girl stopped her.
“Ugh… fine. But Qianyue, after Senior Ouyang’s performance ends, could you get me her autograph?”
“No problem! Leave that little matter to me!”
“Then the Music Club’s performance will now officially begin.” At the announcement from a club member, the entire venue fell silent.
“Is Senior Ouyang about to go on?” Qianyue’s classmate whispered to her.
“Sister is the president and the ace of the Music Club. She will definitely perform in the grand finale.”
“So we have to wait until the afternoon?”
“Don’t worry about that. Sister has a stage drama performance in the afternoon, so the Music Club’s show only runs until the morning.”
“Huh? Senior Ouyang’s stage drama? We have to go see that!”
“Right, exactly!”
“Relax, I’ve already got the tickets for the stage drama.” Qianyue pulled three tickets out of her bag with a smug look, handing the other two to her classmates.
“For some reason, Sister won’t tell me anything about the stage drama, but I have my ways!” Qianyue flashed a sly grin.
She recalled the previous day, when she had gone behind Qianxue’s back to Sakura High.
“Sister Caiwei, my sister is so mean, she won’t even give me a ticket to her stage drama!”
“What? How could Qianxue be so stingy? Not giving a ticket to her own little sister? Don’t worry, leave the ticket matter to Sister Caiwei!”
“Really? Thank you so much, Sister Caiwei! Since I want to bring my classmates tomorrow, could I have two more tickets? I’ll definitely put in a good word for you in front of my sister!” Hearing that Qianyue would speak well of her to Ouyang Qianxue, Ning Caiwei immediately beamed with joy.
“As long as little sister Qianyue wants them, I could get you ten tickets.” With that, Ning Caiwei happily ruffled Qianyue’s hair.
“I can’t wait to see the look of surprise on my sister’s face when she steps off the stage and finds me sitting in the audience.”
“Look, Qianyue, the Music Club’s performance has started!”
Just then, a handsome young boy walked to the center of the stage holding a violin and began to play.
“Wow, that senior is so handsome!”
“Don’t just stare at him, you know? That senior is playing Kreisler’s famous piece ‘Liebesleid’ (Love’s Sorrow). The piece is a waltz in the style of Viennese folk music, in A minor, 3/4 time. It’s delicate, melancholic, and melodious. And this senior’s playing technique is outstanding, he brings out the piece’s character and strengths beautifully.”
“Really! That senior plays so well!”
“I know. Just his handsome face alone made me swoon, but now listening to him play the violin, my heart is melting.”
“Still, his skill is a bit lacking compared to my brother, and he’s not as good-looking either.” Seeing the reactions of the two beside her, Ouyang Qianyue pouted and muttered in a voice too low for them to hear.
The person performing on stage at that moment was Duan Haichen.
(Senior Ouyang, no, Qianxue, I will use my efforts to live up to your expectations. Just wait, Qianxue. I will no longer just chase after you from behind. One day, I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you!)
With such feelings in his heart, the emotion in Duan Haichen’s violin performance grew stronger and stronger, even bringing a pleased smile to the face of the Music Club’s faculty advisor watching from the side.
As the piece ended, the entire audience erupted in thunderous applause.
“Duan Haichen, that guy, did brilliantly. Looks like we made the right choice putting him as the opener. Since my junior is so outstanding, I, as his senior, can’t let everyone down either.” The vice president of the Music Club then smiled, picked up a saxophone, and walked onto the stage.
An hour passed. The audience was so captivated by the Music Club’s performance that not a single person left their seat the entire time.
“So this is one of the best clubs at Sakura High?” some spectators marveled. And then,
“Next up is the grand finale of the Music Club. Please welcome the president of the Music Club, the school beauty of Sakura High, Ouyang Qianxue!” As the student announcer finished, the applause and cheers from the audience surged into a wave.
