Volume 4 + Chapter 14: Gender Exposure Still Passive

After hearing Bai Yuxuan’s words, Qianxue broke out in a cold sweat on his forehead. He guessed that Bai Yuxuan was probably furious at him for having been deceived.

So he secretly glanced at Bai Yuxuan, only to see that the corner of Bai Yuxuan’s mouth still carried that chilling smile. Noticing Qianxue sneaking a look, Bai Yuxuan turned to meet his gaze. When their eyes locked, Qianxue suddenly felt like prey being targeted by a predator, and he quickly looked away in fright.

(Oh no… what a nightmare. That guy Bai Yuxuan really came after me!)

Qianxue wailed inwardly. He also sensed that Bai Yuxuan had changed somehow compared to before. In the past, Qianxue had felt there was some kind of distance or reservation in Bai Yuxuan toward him. But now, Bai Yuxuan seemed like he could devour him at any moment.

Thus, Qianxue endured the first class with an anxious heart. As soon as the bell rang, he transformed into a golden flash of lightning and shot out of the classroom with a “whoosh.” Qianxue dared to say that this was the most strenuous running he had done in his entire life.

After dashing to the rooftop and locking the door behind him, Qianxue finally breathed a slight sigh of relief.

The reason Qianxue ran away was that he was afraid to face Bai Yuxuan. He dreaded Bai Yuxuan confronting him about why he had lied. Yet he also understood that Bai Yuxuan was now his deskmate again, he could run from the monk, but not from the temple.

“Sigh, how did Bai Yuxuan show up so fast? I’m totally unprepared. Forget it, I’ll skip today’s classes. Tomorrow, I’ll apologize to him face to face.”

With that, Qianxue stretched his legs out and leaned against the wall by the rooftop entrance.

“But just sitting here like this is pretty boring.”

Since the school’s rooftop was like a small garden, Qianxue, feeling inspired, closed his eyes and began humming a song called “Niwa nite” (In the Garden) by the Japanese singer Acane Madder.

It was already November, and the cold wind howled across the rooftop as if accompanying Qianxue, adding an ethereal quality to his already melodious and moving voice.

However, just as Qianxue was singing with great enjoyment, he suddenly felt a weight on his legs, something had landed on them. Opening his eyes, he was shocked to find that a person was now lying on his lap. And it was the very person he most feared seeing.

“Keep singing. Don’t mind me. Your legs are so soft and springy, I’m very comfortable resting on them.” As Qianxue froze in fright, Bai Yuxuan, lying on his lap, looked utterly at ease.

“Ah!” Qianxue finally reacted upon hearing those words. He immediately tried to get up and run toward the rooftop exit, but his legs were pinned down firmly by Bai Yuxuan, so he couldn’t move.

“Keep singing. At least finish the song. We’ll talk about everything else later.” Bai Yuxuan closed her eyes and said.

Qianxue felt as if he had a red-hot iron ball in his pocket, neither able to hold it nor let it go. He was certain that if he shoved Bai Yuxuan off him right now, Bai Yuxuan would definitely turn hostile. But if he followed Bai Yuxuan’s instruction and continued singing, Bai Yuxuan would surely settle accounts with him afterward anyway.

With no other choice, he obeyed Bai Yuxuan and resumed singing.

After a while, Qianxue noticed that Bai Yuxuan seemed to have fallen asleep. To be safe, he lowered his head and carefully examined Bai Yuxuan’s face to confirm whether she was really asleep. Gazing at Bai Yuxuan’s peaceful sleeping expression, Qianxue suddenly thought that Bai Yuxuan was actually quite good-looking, provided he wasn’t smirking or wearing a stern face like usual.

In fact, compared to Qianxue’s own stunning, almost fairy-like beauty that left people breathless, Bai Yuxuan was the kind of handsome that grew on you. The more you looked, the more beautiful Bai Yuxuan appeared. Moreover, her features carried a heroic spirit that many girls lacked. If someone were to put armor on Bai Yuxuan and set her atop a tall horse, she would be a valkyrie charging across the battlefield.

Then Qianxue noticed that Bai Yuxuan’s breathing was steady. Even when he stopped singing, Bai Yuxuan showed no sign of opening her eyes. So Qianxue gently took off his own school blazer, folded it into a pillow shape, and carefully moved Bai Yuxuan’s head from his lap onto it.

After doing all that, Qianxue dashed for the exit. But before he could even reach the rooftop door, a black figure cornered him, pressing him against the wall beside the entrance.

“Weren’t you asleep?” Qianxue exclaimed in surprise, looking at Bai Yuxuan before him.

“No help for it. My prey is so cunning, you’ve already slipped away from me twice. How could I not be more careful this time?”

“I’m sorry, I…” Qianxue started to apologize, but Bai Yuxuan stopped him.

“It’s okay. I forgive you. For both deceiving me and leaving me.”

“Really?” Qianxue’s eyes widened at Bai Yuxuan’s words.

“But you’re not allowed to just leave me again from now on!”

“But I’m a boy. Didn’t you read my letter?”

“I did, but so what if you’re a boy? As long as there’s love, even the same sex can fall in love!”

In truth, the moment Bai Yuxuan saw Qianxue again, she had been eager to tell him the secret of her own gender. But while lying on Qianxue’s lap listening to him sing, she changed his mind.

Because she felt that telling Qianxue directly would be too much of a loss. Qianxue had hidden the truth from her for so long, and had made her agonize over so many things before she could even put her love into practice.

Did Qianxue have any idea how torn Bai Yuxuan had been when she realized she had fallen for someone of the same sex? And on top of all that, Qianxue had simply run away in the end.

No, she had to earn back from Qianxue everything she had suffered. Otherwise, she would never feel at peace. Besides, here in the capital, there were no annoying people like Duan Haichen or Ning Caiwei fighting her for Qianxue day after day. He could take her time and slowly enjoy the wonderful moments with Qianxue.

So Bai Yuxuan forcibly suppressed her inner impulse and said this to Qianxue instead.

“And furthermore, from today on, you will obey my orders. Whatever I tell you to do, you do it.”

“Huh? Are you joking? Even though what I did this time was a bit excessive, why on earth should I obey your every command?”

“Heh heh, so you’re unwilling? That would be a problem. If tomorrow in the class group chat a certain adorable boy’s maid photo appears, or if the girls’ dormitory receives a report that a boy has snuck in…”

    “That’s blackmail!”

“Blackmail? That sounds so ugly. How is reporting a little pervert who snuck into the girls’ dormitory blackmail?”

“I…” Qianxue’s face flushed red with anger, but he couldn’t argue back.

“Since you’re not saying anything, I’ll take that as a yes. Anyway, we’ve both decided to skip class today. So for the whole day, you’re going on a date with me.”
