Volume 3 + Chapter 53: The Misunderstanding Is Cleared Up

Once the movie began, Ouyang Qianxue stopped bickering with Bai Yuxuan and focused his attention on the film instead. However, it did not take long before he realized Bai Yuxuan had been staring at him the entire time.

“What are you looking at?” Ouyang Qianxue questioned irritably.

“You, of course,” Bai Yuxuan replied with a cheerful smile.

“Come on, we came to the theater to watch a movie, not for you to stare at me!” Ouyang Qianxue said with a helpless sigh.

“How could the movie possibly be more beautiful than you?” Bai Yuxuan’s words caught Ouyang Qianxue off guard. He had not expected this man (woman) to start flirting with him again so suddenly.

“I mean seriously… We sit together in class every day. Don’t you already see me enough?” Ouyang Qianxue said, pressing a hand to his forehead.

“That’s different. At school, how could I dare stare openly at you like this? What annoys me is that all those maggot-like boys can shamelessly stare at you whenever they want, while I have to sneak glances in secret. But now it’s different, I can finally look at you as much as I want.”

“You really are wasteful. A movie ticket worth several hundred yuan, and you use it just to stare at me?”

“What’s a few hundred yuan? If it means I can look at you for a few more hours, I’d gladly buy tickets far more expensive than this.”

Bai Yuxuan’s words left Ouyang Qianxue speechless. On one hand, he felt helpless, on the other, he genuinely pitied her a little. If it had been almost any other girl, she probably would have fallen for Bai Yuxuan already. After all, Bai Yuxuan was outstanding in every aspect. Yet out of all the people in the world, she had somehow set her heart on him, a man. So no matter how much effort Bai Yuxuan put in, in the end it could only be futile.

Since the premiere anime movie Qianyue wanted to watch was aimed primarily at girls, Ouyang Qianxue began getting sleepy less than twenty minutes into the film. Unfortunately, the theater seats were too upright, and resting his head against them was terribly uncomfortable.

Watching Ouyang Qianxue yawn repeatedly with a miserable expression, Bai Yuxuan could not help covering her mouth as she laughed softly. Then she reached out and gently pinched his smooth cheek.

“Stop messing around…” Ouyang Qianxue murmured drowsily as he slapped her hand away. Judging from his unfocused gaze, he was truly exhausted.

“I was just going to say, if you’re really sleepy, you can lean over here.” After speaking, Bai Yuxuan patted her shoulder.

“As if I’d lean on you!” Ouyang Qianxue retorted.

“Why not? Qianxue… could it be that you like me?”

“Huh? How did you even arrive at that conclusion?”

“If not, then why are you afraid to lean on me? If you only saw me as an ordinary friend, you shouldn’t feel embarrassed about it, right?”

Ouyang Qianxue thought to himself. He was already exhausted, and the seat really was uncomfortable. Besides, they were technically “both men”, what was the big deal about leaning together a little? Thinking that, he relaxed and leaned his shoulder against Bai Yuxuan’s. Before long, faint, soft snores escaped him as he fell asleep resting against her.

Looking at the sleeping Ouyang Qianxue before her, Bai Yuxuan revealed a gentle smile of understanding. Qianxue truly had been through a lot these past few days. Not only had he endured continuous competitions, but immediately afterward he learned his younger sister had gotten into trouble and rushed back in panic. Then this very morning, he had woken up early just to make breakfast. It was only natural that he was exhausted.

By October, the weather in Xijiang had already begun growing chilly. In his sleep, Ouyang Qianxue felt a little cold and subconsciously shifted closer toward Bai Yuxuan.

Though the movement was incredibly subtle, it could not escape Bai Yuxuan’s sharp eyes. She quietly removed her outer coat, slipped one arm around his other shoulder, and gently pulled him into her embrace. Then she draped the coat over both of them together. The surrounding girls watched with obvious envy.

Perhaps sensing the warmth, Ouyang Qianxue affectionately rubbed against Bai Yuxuan in his sleep.

“Mom…” Ouyang Qianxue murmured softly.

Because their heads were so close together, Bai Yuxuan heard every word clearly. Ouyang Qianxue wore a contented expression, as though in his dream he had mistaken her for his mother. Seeing him smile so innocently, almost like a child, made Bai Yuxuan’s heart ache. It seemed he truly had not spent much time with his mother in a very long while.

Although Ouyang Qianxue usually gave others an adorable impression, his eyes always carried a maturity far beyond his age.

“So only when she’s asleep… does she act spoiled toward her mother and become like a real child?” Bai Yuxuan thought unconsciously as she pulled him a little closer into her arms.

At that moment, Bai Yuxuan felt deeply happy. All this time, she had felt that she had never truly done anything substantial for Qianxue, while he had repeatedly helped her whenever she was at her lowest. So being able to do even this tiny thing for him filled her with joy.

And so Bai Yuxuan simply sat there, quietly gazing at Ouyang Qianxue’s sleeping face until the movie ended.

“Ah, you two…!” A startled cry suddenly woke Ouyang Qianxue from his sleep.

The moment he opened his eyes, he saw his younger sister staring at him with her mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.

Only then did Ouyang Qianxue realize the movie had already ended and the audience was gradually leaving the theater. As people passed by, they cast strange looks toward him and Bai Yuxuan, some jealous, some envious. Following their gazes, he finally noticed that he had been leaning openly against Bai Yuxuan’s shoulder in public, with her coat covering both of them together. The pose looked extremely intimate.

“Brother! You actually…”

Before Qianyue could finish speaking, Ouyang Qianxue immediately covered her mouth and dragged her to a secluded corner.

“Didn’t we agree you wouldn’t call me ‘Brother’ in front of other people?!” Ouyang Qianxue scolded nervously after confirming no one else was nearby.

“Ah, I forgot by accident. But don’t worry, Brother, they definitely thought I was calling Bai Yuxuan that. Just now I subconsciously assumed it was only Senior Yuxuan and the two of us here.”

“You can’t call me that even in front of Bai Yuxuan!”

“Huh? Why not? Doesn’t Senior Yuxuan already know?”

“Know what? If he knew I was actually a man, would he still flirt with me like that?”

“What?! So he doesn’t know?!” Qianyue exclaimed in shock.

“So our relationship isn’t what you think at all. I don’t have those kinds of feelings for him,” Ouyang Qianxue explained.

“So Senior Yuxuan’s love is completely one-sided… but doesn’t that make him kind of pitiful? He really seems deeply devoted to you, Brother.”

“Sigh… but you know I’m carrying out a mission right now, and secrets like this can’t be revealed casually. Still, once high school graduation comes and my mission ends, if he still refuses to give up on me, then I’ll personally tell him the truth.”

“I see…” Qianyue let out a long sigh of relief. For a moment just now, she had almost thought her brother was going to say that if Bai Yuxuan kept pursuing him, he would eventually agree to it.

“If that’s the case, then I’m relieved. In that case, Brother, I think I’ll head back to school tomorrow.”

“Why the rush?”

“Alright, I’m on my way.” After speaking, Ouyang Qianxue hung up the call.

“Then go take care of your business, Brother. Leave Mom to me!”

“Mhm, Qianyue really is so considerate. Just remember, if anything happens again in the future, you have to tell your brother, alright?” After saying that, Ouyang Qianxue greeted Bai Yuxuan briefly before hurrying toward the city center.
