Volume 3 Chapter 16.1
by Golden DragonVolume 3 + Chapter 16.1: Beginning
One week after the opening ceremony, the campus life of the students at Sakura Academy High gradually returned to calm.
At this moment, however, the classroom of Class 6, Grade 11 was unusually lively. No sooner had class ended than the area around Ouyang Qianxue’s seat was already surrounded by underclassmen from other classes.
“Recently, my father’s friend opened a Japanese restaurant in the southern part of the city. It’s opening today, and he invited me to bring a classmate for a tasting. I was wondering if Senior Ouyang might be free…”
But before Qianxue could answer, this boy was shoved aside by several other boys.
“I can treat Senior Ouyang to Japanese food too, but before that, I’d like to invite you to a movie. It’s a newly released romantic drama from abroad. It’s been sold out since its third day and has received rave reviews. I hope Senior Ouyang would do me the honor…”
But before the boy could even hand the movie tickets to Qianxue, he was pushed to the back by another surge of the crowd.
“All you boys are nothing but hypocrites. You put on this gentlemanly act on the surface, but everyone knows you’re only after Senior Ouyang’s looks! Shallow boys like you don’t even know how to truly appreciate Senior Ouyang!”
“Exactly! Senior Ouyang not only has exceptional looks, but her grades and talents are unparalleled at Sakura Academy, no, I dare say across the entire Xijiang region. She’s practically the definition of perfection.”
“And Senior Ouyang is also incredibly gentle with everyone. Despite being such a noble presence herself, she has never once put on airs with us. She’s not only talented and beautiful but also virtuous and accomplished!”
“So someone as perfect as Senior Ouyang, inside and out, should be spending time with us. She should be guiding us younger female students as our role model, not be monopolized by you crude boys!”
At this point, overwhelmed by the girls’ momentum, the boys found themselves momentarily speechless.
Meanwhile, Ouyang Qianxue wore a helpless expression. I’m clearly a boy, he thought, yet I’m constantly being hit on by underclassmen, and the girls call me the perfect woman. What if I can’t get married in the future… No, what if I can’t find a wife? Just thinking about it made his head spin.
“Hey, Senior Ouyang, I heard a new French dessert shop opened near the south gate. Why don’t we go there today for a chat?”
“All you ever think about is eating! Senior, come with us to a karaoke bar. We’ve all heard you have a voice that rivals a professional idol’s, and we’ve been wanting to hear it for ages.”
“Yeah, yeah!” As soon as afternoon classes ended, a crowd of underclassmen swarmed Qianxue’s seat, leaving him completely surrounded.
In stark contrast, Bai Yuxuan sat nearby. Ever since the term began, she had coldly rejected several underclassmen’s confessions and had since been kept at a distance. Thus, with the gap between their desks acting as a dividing line, one side was packed with people while the other was desolate.
“Ugh, I’m so exhausted.” The moment he entered the music club room, Ouyang Qianxue immediately collapsed onto a chair, completely limp like some sort of soft-bodied creature.
“Are you okay, Senior Ouyang?” Duan Haichen immediately approached with concern.
“Leave her alone and let her rest,” the vice president said, pulling Duan Haichen aside and scolding him gently. “Qianxue’s already had a tiring day being bothered by all those new students.”
“Sorry, I didn’t notice.” Duan Haichen quickly apologized to the vice president. Just then…
“It’s fine, don’t blame Duan Haichen. I’m not asleep yet. Junior Duan, how about playing a piece for me?”
“You got it!” The moment Duan Haichen heard that Ouyang Qianxue wanted to hear him play, he eagerly scurried over to the piano and began performing.
Meanwhile, inside the student council office, the atmosphere was extremely tense. Bai Yuxuan paced back and forth while the other four kept their heads down, not daring to look at her.
Even Jiang Cheng, who was usually carefree and rarely serious, was cautiously burying himself in his work. It was the first time he had seen Bai Yuxuan so agitated. Normally, he dared to joke with her because he knew she wouldn’t take offense, but he also understood just how terrifying she could be when angry.
At that moment, Bai Yuxuan’s heart was in turmoil, for she had not spoken a single word to Qianxue in an entire week!
(It’s all those new students’ fault! They just crowd around Qianxue all day long, leaving me no chance to get close to her!)
Bai Yuxuan’s thoughts pointed squarely at the first-year students.
“Running to our classroom every single day! Looks like this year’s first-years have way too light a workload. I need to come up with a reason to make their teachers assign more homework!” Bai Yuxuan slammed her hand on the table and spoke with fiery indignation.
“Holy crap! No way, boss. We’re already exhausted coming to the student council every day to handle affairs. If you pile more on us, I’ll drop dead!” Jiang Cheng immediately stood up to protest.
“Shut up! You don’t get a say in this. One more word, and I’ll have your teacher double your workload, no, triple it!” Under Bai Yuxuan’s reprimand, Jiang Cheng had no choice but to obediently shut his mouth and retreat to his seat.
“Yu… Yuxuan-senpai, here’s this month’s activity plan. The only event left for September is the Campus Culture Festival.” Xia Bingdie cautiously handed over the completed plan, intimidated by Bai Yuxuan’s grim expression.
“The Campus Culture Festival?” At the mention of the festival, Bai Yuxuan fell into deep thought.
“This might be an opportunity.” With that, she began meticulously reviewing the plan Xia Bingdie had put together.
“Yuxuan-senpai?” Seeing her study it so seriously, Xia Bingdie asked uneasily. Given Bai Yuxuan’s usual habits, she tended to focus on substantive work and would typically leave student activities entirely to her and the other members. At most, she’d glance over it to check the budget and staffing.
But now Bai Yuxuan was reading so intently that Xia Bingdie grew fearful, worried that she had made a mistake somewhere. After all, the lesson from not long ago was still fresh in her mind.
“Don’t speak. Don’t disturb me.” Bai Yuxuan waved her hand, signaling Xia Bingdie to return to her seat. She then picked up a pen and began revising the plan.
“Done!” After twenty minutes of revisions, Bai Yuxuan looked at the plan with satisfaction.
“This is my newly revised plan. Take a look, all of you.” She handed the plan to the other four.
“Wow, as expected of Senpai. You not only simplified the various tedious ceremonies of the Culture Festival but also coordinated the human resources, greatly improving our student council’s efficiency!” After reading Bai Yuxuan’s plan, Xia Bingdie wore an expression of admiration.
Bai Yuxuan smiled faintly. The reason she had improved the student council’s efficiency was so that she could free up time during the Culture Festival to spend it with the person most important to her.
(Qianxue, let’s enjoy this Culture Festival together.)
A slight smile curved at the corners of Bai Yuxuan’s lips as she thought to herself.
