Volume 6 Chapter 71
by Golden DragonVolume 6 + Chapter 71: The Giant In The Thick Fog
The dwarf merchant found himself in a patch of shadow, so he turned around and saw an unbelievable sight.
“Aaaaaah! This is…!?”
At that moment, he felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave, his back chilled, his face drained of color, and he let out a terrified scream.
“Why is there a giant here!!?”
Behind the dwarf merchant stood a giant.
Most of the giant’s body was hidden within the thick fog, making its features unclear, but the silhouette faintly visible in the mist was utterly astonishing.
“Could this be the giant in the thick fog that the messenger spoke of?”
Xia Yi recalled the words of the dragon messenger who had gone to the Elven Kingdom.
The messenger had crossed the border of the Elven Kingdom, entered its territory, seen no elves, and ventured into the thick fog.
Inside the fog, not only had he lost his bearings, but he had also been attacked by giants.
“Protect me! Someone protect me, quick!!!”
The dwarf merchant jumped down from his carriage, abandoned his goods, and shouted toward the Bear Dominates the World mercenary group.
The mercenaries were also dumbfounded.
This giant surpassed the size of ordinary giant-kind, it was practically a moving mountain, a monster through and through.
Everyone now understood why there had been earthquakes here, they were caused by the giant’s movement.
Faced with a monster of such colossal size, the mercenary group had no chance of victory whatsoever.
“I can’t die here! You lot must protect me…”
The dwarf merchant ran and shouted as he went.
But before he could finish his words, a huge palm came down.
Smack!
Like swatting a fly, the giant’s hand slapped down on the dwarf merchant.
After that, there was no further sound from the dwarf merchant, only deathly silence, as bright red blood flowed outwards.
Dead.
The dwarf merchant had been killed so simply, so easily.
The terror of death descended. Bear One and Bear Two, who had been fighting, both stopped and froze at the sight.
“Run, run for it!!”
Bear One shouted in terror.
Quick as a flash, he shoved aside his own kin, found a horse, and jumped onto it.
It happened to be Xia Yi’s carriage.
“Giddyup, horse! I don’t want to die here!!”
Bear One freed the horse from the carriage and rode it alone, speeding away in the opposite direction from the giant.
But then another giant arm emerged from the thick fog, slapping both Bear One and his horse to the ground.
The giant hand did not crush him as it had the dwarf merchant, instead, it gripped Bear One like food.
“Aaaah! No, no, no!!!”
Bear One used all his strength to struggle within the giant’s grasp.
But how could he possibly match the giant in strength?
No matter how he fought, it was useless.
Under everyone’s watch, the giant hand withdrew into the thick fog. After a heart-wrenching scream, Bear One fell silent as well.
This shattered everyone’s sanity.
“Aaaah! I can’t die in a place like this!”
“I quit! I want to go home and get married!!”
“Help! Help! Somebody help!!”
The bear-men scattered in all directions, unable to bear staying in this terrifying place any longer.
Xia Yi did not panic. Instead, she calmly observed the situation.
She realized that there was more than one giant here.
The vision-obscuring dense fog seemed to possess some kind of magic, impossible to see through, acting as cover that allowed the giants to hide within the mist and hunt down outsiders.
One by one, the bear-men died in the giants’ hunting.
“Milady, look out!”
Suddenly, Atiya scooped Xia Yi into her arms and swiftly leaped outward.
The next second, a giant hand descended from the sky, crushing the carriage into dust. The spot where Xia Yi had just been standing was struck by the giant’s attack.
“Atiya, thank you.” Xia Yi blinked.
“It seems this is my moment to shine. Protecting Milady is my duty, after all.”
Atiya tore off her outer clothes, and as if performing magic, she changed outfits in the blink of an eye, donning the attire of the Royal Maidservant Corps.
She flicked her skirt, the hem flying up, and countless weapons appeared, sticking neatly into the ground.
No matter how many times Xia Yi saw this, she found it unbelievable.
What exactly was the construction under a maid’s skirt, to hold so many things?
From within the thick fog, a giant arm swept toward Xia Yi.
Atiya hooked a giant, door-sized broadsword with her tail, flinging it into the air. She leaped high, caught the sword gracefully, spun mid-air, used her body to drive the blade, and infused it with dragon power.
“Rising Dragon!!”
Atiya swung the broadsword down onto the ground. Like a boulder plunging into a lake, the impact of her power sent shockwaves rippling through the earth, severing the giant’s arm.
The motion was fluid and spectacular.
The loss of its arm enraged the giant. A giant hand fell from above Atiya, seemingly intending to crush her.
“Hyaa!”
Atiya raised the broadsword above her head. Facing the descending attack, she did not dodge but lowered her center of gravity.
In an instant, she stood as firm as a mountain.
Clang!
After a crisp sound of collision, sparks flew. Relying on her confidence in her own strength, Atiya not only blocked the giant’s attack with her broadsword but also pushed it back.
The giant exposed an opening, and Atiya seized the opportunity to pursue.
“Whirlwind!”
Atiya spun the broadsword. The heavy greatsword seemed weightless in her hands. The arcing sword energy generated by the spinning blade sliced and split the giant’s palm.
The giant’s blood fell like rain, dyeing her blue hair red.
The bold and sweeping greatsword technique made even Xia Yi’s heart race with excitement.
Atiya was truly reliable!
“I have to go back. I have to go back. The ‘wind’ is urging me…!”
Xia Yi heard a voice that caught her attention.
She shifted her gaze and saw that Balan, who had been tied up, had found an opportunity amidst the chaos to free himself. Muttering something, he began to sprint wildly in a certain direction within the thick fog.
“No, I can’t let him escape!”
Xia Yi frowned.
Even though Balan had gone mad, she could tell from his words that he knew which route led into the Elven Kingdom.
The “wind” he spoke of seemed intent on preventing outsiders from entering, allowing only elves to return to the Elven Kingdom.
If she let this fellow escape here, Xia Yi felt she might never be able to cross the thick fog and enter the Elven Kingdom.
Xia Yi took off after Balan.
She had barely taken a few steps when a shadow fell upon her.
It was a giant’s attack. These giants… were indeed deliberately escorting Balan away!
“Milady!”
Atiya, wielding twin swords, charged forward and managed to block the giant’s attack.
“Go after that strange elf. I’ll clear the way for you!”
“…Alright. Atiya, remember don’t push yourself. Don’t get too tangled up with these giants!” Xia Yi instructed.
“Understood.”
Atiya nodded.
“Leave the rest to me!”
