    Volume 6 + Chapter 61: Sanger Town

“Your Highness the Princess, we are almost at the border of the Elven Kingdom.”

The blue dragon carried Xia Yi through the sky as they flew.

Xia Yi gazed into the distance and saw vast stretches of dense forest.

She and Atiya had left the Dragon Kingdom and arrived at the border region of the Elven Kingdom.

“Atiya, let’s go down,” Xia Yi said. “Let’s not rush into the Elven Kingdom just yet, after all, we have the messenger’s misfortune as a warning.”

    “Understood, Your Highness!”

Atiya descended from the sky and landed on the ground.

After Xia Yi jumped off, Atiya assumed her human form.

The mistress and servant had both disguised themselves from their attire, no one could discern their true identities.

“Atiya, do not reveal my identity so easily in front of outsiders,” Xia Yi said. “From now on, we may need to interact with other races. It would be quite troublesome if they found out who I am.”

“Your Highness, then how should I address you? May I call you ‘Milady’?” Atiya asked tentatively.

    “…That will do.”

Xia Yi recalled that when Serra had accompanied her to Golde in the past, they had used the same form of address, so she did not object.

“Wonderful! Milady Xia Yi!” Atiya seemed delighted with the title. “Then I am your personal maidservant, assistant, steward, advisor, guardian Atiya!”

    “Why so many titles?”

“Milady, this kind of setup is quite popular these days.”

“You… as long as you’re happy.”

“Your Highness, what is our next plan?”

“Advisor Atiya, could you offer some constructive suggestions?”

    “Yes, yes, yes!”

    Atiya raised her hand.

“Milady, how about we go to a nearby town and gather some intelligence first? Based on the previous messenger’s report, entering the Elven Kingdom is dangerous. Why don’t we obtain some information before making a decision?”

    “…Who are you?”

    Xia Yi’s eyes widened.

What was going on? How could the scatterbrained Atiya come up with such a sensible suggestion?

“Milady, I am your personal maidservant, assistant, steward, advisor, guardian Atiya! You clearly have a great misunderstanding of me, I am quite serious and reliable!” Atiya said proudly.

“Atiya is surprisingly normal for once… Very well, let’s go to a nearby town, gather information about the Elven Kingdom, and then act.” Xia Yi agreed with Atiya’s proposal.

Xia Yi and Atiya traveled together and arrived at Sanger Town, a settlement near the border of the Elven Kingdom.

Sanger Town was very close to the Elven Kingdom’s border and lay along one of the routes into the kingdom, so many outsiders gathered there.

“Hello, boss! We’d like to ask about something~!” Atiya greeted the shopkeeper from the entrance of a store.

“What is it, customers? To think that anyone would still come to Sanger Town at a time like this…”

The shopkeeper stepped out of his store, but upon seeing Atiya and Xia Yi, he froze entirely, then his expression changed dramatically.

“Dragons! There are evil dragons here!!”

Immediately afterward, he hung up a closed sign on his shop and shut himself inside, hiding away.

“Do I really look that frightening?”

Atiya gazed at her reflection in the glass, utterly perplexed.

The shops along this street all reacted the same way. Upon seeing the two dragonfolk, Atiya and Xia Yi, the shopkeepers would panic and close their doors. The entire street was nearly shut down.

“Atiya, it’s not our fault, the dragon race has a terrible reputation,” Xia Yi sighed. “Other races are simply too afraid of us.”

“What are they afraid of? That we’ll gobble them up in one bite?”

“Exactly. Isn’t that how evil dragons are portrayed in foreign tales?” Xia Yi said. “In broad daylight, they raid towns, plunder wildly, and devour people alive.”

“How could anyone eat them alive! That’s so unhygienic, you should at least roast them and add some seasoning!” Atiya corrected.

“With that kind of explanation, they’ll definitely be even more terrified…” Xia Yi felt helpless. It seemed that gathering intelligence was quickly becoming hopeless.

Perhaps they still needed to disguise themselves.

Should she use the transformation potion?

Xia Yi could use it herself, but she wasn’t sure if it would work on anyone else…

Just as she was pondering, Atiya offered a suggestion.

“Milady, there are too many cowards here, none of them dare talk to us. How about we go to a place where the tough crowd gathers?”

    “The tough crowd?”

“We could go to a tavern,” Atiya explained. “Taverns are full of adventurers and bards, great places for exchanging information.”

“Oh, right. Let’s go take a look, if it doesn’t work out, we’ll reconsider.” Xia Yi agreed.

    The Sanger Town Tavern.

“Sigh, why have all the elves disappeared from town?”

“Damn it, I have a task that needs to be completed in the Elven Kingdom, but the elven guide I hired has suddenly gone silent!”

“I’m worried too. My goods are waiting to be delivered inside, and my cash flow is having major problems. At this rate, my business will go bankrupt. Damn it, no one dares to be a guard…”

In the tavern, the patrons took advantage of their drunkenness to vent their frustrations to one another.

Just then, the tavern door opened.

    “Honored guests, welcome…”

The server was about to greet them, but when he saw the pair, his expression froze.

Xia Yi and Atiya stepped into the tavern of Sanger Town.

    “As expected… just as I thought…”

    Xia Yi muttered to herself.

When she first entered, she had heard the lively buzz of conversation inside. But after she and Atiya walked in, they acted like a humanoid silence device, plunging the tavern’s atmosphere to freezing point, complete silence.

Under the silent gaze of various eyes, they approached the bar and sat down.

“One cocktail and one hot milk,” Atiya said.

    “Huh?” The bartender flinched.

“Wait, Atiya, I don’t want milk!” Xia Yi protested. “Since I’ve come to a tavern, how can I drink milk!”

    “Then how about juice?”

“I want the same as you, a cocktail.”

    “Huh? That’s not appropriate!”

“I’m not a child, so why can’t I drink alcohol?” Xia Yi was indignant.

    “But you are…”

Just as Xia Yi and Atiya were arguing, one of the previously silent patrons spoke up.

“You evil dragons, what are you doing in Sanger Town? Are you here to cause trouble?!”

Xia Yi turned around and saw that the speaker was a burly bear-man with several scars on his face, exuding a fierce and rugged aura from head to toe.

“Cause trouble? You’ve got it wrong. We just want to learn about the situation in the Elven Kingdom.”

“Still playing dumb? You know perfectly well what you’re asking,” the bear-man rebuked angrily. “Isn’t the Elven Kingdom in this state precisely because of you dragons?!”
