Volume 2 Chapter 68
by Golden DragonVolume 2 + Chapter 68: A Crushing Loss
At this moment, as they stared at the phone lying on the floor, the hospital room fell into a suffocating silence.
Wang Qian bent down, picked up the phone, glanced at the maid on the screen, and then walked over to Ouyang Qianxue, her expression turning icy cold.
“Who exactly is this maid?” Wang Qian asked, holding up the phone toward Qianxue. At that moment, the maid’s face on the screen happened to be just out of view.
(Phew… good thing Bai Yuxuan reacted fast and didn’t let Wang Qian recognize him.)
“This just popped up while I was reading a novel earlier, one of those ads inside the app. Honestly, these novel apps are getting outrageous, inserting chat-style pop-up ads like this!” Ouyang Qianxue replied calmly, without a flicker of hesitation.
“Is that really so?” Wang Qian asked, clearly unconvinced.
“Sister isn’t that kind of person. You should trust her, Sister Qian!” Qianxue’s younger sister said earnestly, her expression full of conviction.
“Fine… since Qianyue is vouching for you, I’ll believe you this once,” Wang Qian sighed.
Seeing everyone relax, the tension in Qianxue’s chest finally eased. He glanced at Qianyue and smiled with quiet gratitude.
(Nice, Qianyue. As expected of my good little sister.)
Sensing her brother’s grateful and affectionate gaze, Qianyue smiled brightly in return. But just then…
“Qianxue, are you there? Why did you stop talking?”
A voice suddenly came from the phone. Instantly, the three women who had just relaxed turned their eyes back toward the device. On the screen, the unseen maid was swaying her body as she spoke.
“Qianxue, didn’t you just say this was an advertisement?” Wang Qian’s expression darkened at once.
“I…” Qianxue faltered, caught completely off guard.
“But looking closely now, this is clearly a video call interface. And why would she know your name?”
“Th-that’s…”
“I bet she’s some adult streamer you hooked up with online, and you had her put on a maid outfit just for you to watch, didn’t you?”
“That’s not it! Th-this is actually a man!” Ouyang Qianxue shouted.
Wang Qian looked utterly unconvinced, while behind her, Ning Caiwei and Qianyue were already spiraling into panic.
“Qianxue… do you already have someone you like?” Ning Caiwei asked, her voice trembling, as if she were about to cry.
“A… a man? B-bro… sister, you… you actually have that kind of preference?” Qianyue stammered, her voice shaking.
“No, Caiwei, Qianyue, I…”
Before he could finish, the voice from the phone cut in again.
“You’re so mean, Qianxue. You clearly just asked me to lift my skirt for you, and now you’re calling me a man? That’s too cruel!”
“What else do you have to say for yourself?” Wang Qian asked, her tone calm, but the veins on her forehead were already bulging.
“That voice is obviously a girl’s! Your lie is embarrassingly bad.”
The voice from the phone was soft, sweet, and tinged with grievance, there was nothing about it that sounded even remotely masculine.
“Damn… I knew Bai Yuxuan had a high voice when he sang before, but I never imagined he could do a flawless female voice too…” Qianxue muttered under his breath.
“Well? Nothing to say now?” Wang Qian pressed.
“That’s not true! He’s slandering me, I never looked under his skirt!”
“Qianxue! You clearly made me do all those embarrassing things just now!”
As she spoke, the maid in the video lifted her skirt, revealing long, slender legs wrapped in black stockings, posing one alluring stance after another.
“Qianyue, don’t look!” Wang Qian quickly called out. Qianyue immediately covered her eyes, but curiosity got the better of her, she peeked through her fingers from time to time, her face flushing red at the provocative sight.
“Well then, your crimes are now clear as day. What do you have to say?”
“I…!” Qianxue was utterly speechless, like swallowing bitterness with no way to complain. He couldn’t possibly admit that the maid was Bai Yuxuan… and even if he did, no one would believe him.
He turned to his sister, silently pleading for help.
“B-bro… sister… well… even if you have… that kind of interest, it doesn’t affect your tall and admirable image in my heart at all,” Qianyue said, though her eyes kept darting away.
Qianxue then looked toward Ning Caiwei, only to find her dialing a number.
“Hello? Designer Zhang? Yes, it’s Caiwei. I’d like you to custom-make several maid outfits for me. As for the styles… Qianxue, could you send me screenshots of that maid from just now?”
“…There’s no saving her,” Qianxue thought, turning back helplessly to face Wang Qian, whose expression now looked like a wrathful demon.
“I brought you your phone because I thought you’d be bored in the hospital, and this is what you do? Something this… this disgraceful!”
“Considering you’re still injured, I won’t mete out justice right now. But once you recover…”
She clenched her fist right in front of him, producing a sharp cracking sound. Seeing her fury, Qianxue swallowed hard.
“And I’m confiscating your phone!”
With that, Wang Qian powered it off and slipped it into her pocket.
“No!” Qianxue felt like crying without tears. He had finally gotten the chance to make Bai Yuxuan serve as his maid for a day and get his revenge, and before he could even enjoy it, it was gone.
“What, you want it back so you can keep video chatting with that maid? Making her do all those embarrassing things?” Wang Qian said with a look of utter disgust.
“Yeah, sister, Sister Qian is doing this for your own good,” Qianyue added earnestly, trying to persuade him.
“Qianxue, if you have… those kinds of needs, you could always come to me, hey, Wang Qian, don’t push me!”
“Looks like my luck’s been pretty great lately. When good things happen, everything just feels refreshing,” Bai Yuxuan said with a grin as she saw the call had ended.
She then removed the maid outfit, changed back into her black jacket and white T-shirt, and casually tied her ponytail back up with a hair tie.
Night fell.
Back in the hospital room, Ouyang Qianxue lay there, unable to get out of bed due to his injuries. With his phone gone, all he could do was stare blankly at the ceiling. Since Wang Qian and the others had left, he had been stuck like this for four hours.
“Can someone at least talk to me…? Why does being hospitalized feel like being in prison?!” he groaned, feeling like he might lose his mind if this continued.
“Yo! Looks like I came at just the right time!”
Bai Yuxuan’s voice rang out as she pulled open the window, smiling at Ouyang Qianxue.
