Chapter 59 – The Owner of the Stray Kitten
by Salted FishThe Owner of the Stray Kitten (6)
Xu Xinghe lived in a small studio apartment, two rooms and a living room. It was just the right size for one person and one cat.
She took Lin Mo out of the cat carrier. The kitten’s green pupils widened. He was nervous in the unfamiliar environment.
“Mo Mo. This is your new home.” Xu Xinghe patted the kitten’s head. It was round and felt so soft!
Lin Mo lifted his cat head to look at her. Was she this happy just from bringing him home? Then he would behave himself from now on. A little bit, at least.
Xu Xinghe had already bought all the cat supplies last night: cat food, a cat tree, cat treats, a grooming brush, and scratching posts. Worried that the kitten might get stressed in a new home, she also bought some catnip.
But judging by his current behavior, he probably didn’t need it. He was currently taking little cat steps and exploring the apartment.
Just then, Xu Xinghe’s phone rang. It was a delivery call. She answered quickly, and a knock sounded at the door.
She glanced through the peephole and confirmed that it was the delivery person. She then unlocked the door. She took the food, said thank you, and closed the door.
Just as she turned around with the food, she met the kitten’s eyes. He was crouched at the corner and peeking at her.
Lin Mo felt a little upset. In his opinion, the life Xu Xinghe was living was too hard. If he were human right now, he could cook for her with his own hands and buy her everything she wanted.
Xu Xinghe had no idea what the kitten was thinking. She thought her current life was pretty good. She cooked and ate by herself with no one disturbing her. It was very peaceful.
“Mo Mo, Sister bought you some fish.”
Lin Mo pretended not to understand, but his tail honestly stood up straight and brushed against her calf, curling around it.
Xu Xinghe put the takeout on the dining table. She had ordered from a nearby place with the most positive reviews. She wasn’t really good at cooking. Honestly, she would rather skip a meal than eat her own cooking.
The reason was because she felt lazy, and her cooking was so bad it killed her appetite.
Xu Xinghe opened a cat treat for the kitten, patted his little head, and was about to enjoy her own takeout.
Although Lin Mo was eating his treat, his eyes were fixed on Xu Xinghe. Watching her eat cheap takeout only worsened his mood. His little tail drooped and dragged on the ground.
Yet during the three years he had wandered outside, eating discarded food from others and fighting stray cats for scraps, he had never once felt sorry for himself.
Xu Xinghe had specially left a note asking the cook to prepare a small yellow croaker with no seasoning at all. She picked up the fish, put it in the kitten’s bowl, and pushed it in front of Lin Mo.
Lin Mo looked at the fish with complicated eyes, then looked at Xu Xinghe. She was so thin. She should eat more.
Xu Xinghe slowly finished her takeout. She didn’t order much, just enough for one person. Honestly, this takeout was not delicious. She didn’t understand why it had so many positive reviews.
From now on, she would avoid this place. It seemed she couldn’t just rely on good reviews. She also needed to read the bad ones.
Lin Mo also had no habit of wasting food. When he was wandering the streets, he had been so hungry that he would eat anything. So now, he wasn’t a picky eater at all.
“Mo Mo is so good. You ate it all so cleanly!” Xu Xinghe smiled and praised him. She picked up the kitten’s empty bowl, turned around, and went into the kitchen to wash it.
Lin Mo felt his face heat up from the praise. He wasn’t really a cat. He never imagined that one day, finishing his meal would earn him praise. It was a strange feeling.
But he didn’t hate it. He kind of liked it. He hoped his owner would only be this way with him, her only kitten.
…
Ye Qinghe looked at the shop’s sales figures with a dark expression. She couldn’t believe that after being open for two days, her total revenue was ten yuan!
“What’s going on here!” Ye Qinghe grabbed the young staff member and questioned her. She couldn’t accept it at all.
The young girl was getting a little annoyed. Ask, ask, ask. She had already said the customers were all at the two shops next door. Who would want to go to her unknown milk tea shop?
“Boss, this really is the sales for the past two days,” the girl had no choice but to explain again, sounding defeated. She was starting to not want to work here anymore. The ten yuan was from a drink she herself had ordered out of boredom and drunk.
Ye Qinghe felt that something must have gone wrong. The rent for this location was extremely expensive, costing 300,000 yuan a month.
