Volume 4 + Chapter 10: I Will Leave You After All

“Bai Yuxuan… um…” At that moment, facing Bai Yuxuan with her eyes reddened from anger, Qianxue guiltily averted his gaze. He had never been as afraid to face Bai Yuxuan as he was now, because he truly did not know how to explain his unannounced departure to her.

“Come with me!” Without another word, Bai Yuxuan grabbed Qianxue and pulled him toward the airport exit.

“Hey! Wait… where are you taking me?” Qianxue struggled desperately to break free from Bai Yuxuan’s grip, but her hand was clamped around his wrist like an iron hoop, dragging him out of the airport.

The bodyguards outside had already hailed a taxi for Bai Yuxuan. She pulled Qianxue into the back seat and instructed the driver to take them to her apartment.

Throughout the ride, Bai Yuxuan held tightly onto Qianxue’s wrist, afraid that if she let go, he might sprout wings and fly away from her.

When the car arrived at the apartment, Bai Yuxuan pulled Qianxue out, opened the door, and pushed him inside. After doing all this, she slammed the door shut.

Qianxue cautiously glanced at Bai Yuxuan. Her head was lowered. Her originally pale and handsome face had now turned an ashen blue, like storm clouds before a tempest, as if some long-simmering emotion was about to erupt.

But before he could prepare himself mentally, Bai Yuxuan lunged at him. Startled, Qianxue quickly closed his eyes, bracing for her outburst. Yet the expected angry roar never came. Instead, a pair of arms slipped around his waist and hugged him tightly from behind.

“Thank goodness… I almost thought I was going to lose you again!” Bai Yuxuan said in a trembling voice, and at the same time, a few drops of hot liquid fell onto Qianxue’s neck.

Bai Yuxuan was crying.

Realizing this, Qianxue quickly opened his eyes. He understood now why she had not raged at him but instead wept, because she truly regarded him as the most important person in her heart.

Just like a mother who finds her child after days of being lost due to mischief. Her first reaction is often not scolding, but holding the child and crying, because the concern that turns into tears is the most sincere.

Looking at Bai Yuxuan crying as she held him, Qianxue gently patted her back, softly said “I’m sorry,” and gave a wry smile. No one would ever imagine that the young master of the Bai family, who usually appeared aloof and arrogant, could have such a vulnerable side.

“Qianxue…” Ten minutes later, Bai Yuxuan finally stopped crying and asked in a hoarse voice, “Why did you want to leave Xijiang?”

Qianxue only responded with a bitter smile and did not answer.

“Is it because of Wang Siman?” Bai Yuxuan continued when Qianxue remained silent.

“I’ve built up some influence recently. I believe that with the resources I have now, I can offer Wang Siman a sum that will satisfy her. And I’ll take care of your mother and little sister for you. So… just stay by my side forever, won’t you?” Bai Yuxuan grew more agitated as she spoke, and she took hold of Qianxue’s hand.

Looking at the person before him, Qianxue felt deeply pained. He believed that Bai Yuxuan falling for him was a mistake, because she had no idea of his true gender. And so, this mistake had to be corrected by his own hand.

“I don’t know how to answer that. How about this, you haven’t eaten yet, have you? Let me make us some breakfast, and in the meantime, I’ll think about how to reply to you.”

Although Bai Yuxuan desperately wanted Qianxue to give her an answer right then, she was also afraid that pushing too hard might make him refuse her outright, forcing her to take drastic measures, the last outcome she wanted. So she nodded gently and sat at the table to wait.

Ten minutes later, Qianxue carried two plates of ham and egg sandwiches and sat down across from Bai Yuxuan. After they both finished eating, Bai Yuxuan spoke again.

“Can you tell me your answer now?”

“All right.” Qianxue picked up a napkin from the table and wiped his mouth.

“But before I give you my answer, I want to ask you a few questions first.”

“Ask whatever you like. No matter what you ask, I’ll answer truthfully.” At this moment, Bai Yuxuan’s gaze was resolute. Even if asked about her gender, she would not hesitate to tell Qianxue the truth.

But after hearing her words, Qianxue’s expression turned bitter.

“I want to ask, if I’ve been deceiving you from beginning to end, would you still like me the way you do now, and still want to keep me by your side?”

Hearing this, Bai Yuxuan smiled faintly.

After hearing Bai Yuxuan’s words, Qianxue felt an impulse to cry. But he gritted his teeth and forced back the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes. He steeled his heart and told Bai Yuxuan the answer he had already decided on.

“The more you say things like that, the more I have to leave you.”

“Why?” Bai Yuxuan shouted. She couldn’t understand why Qianxue would say that. Was he leaving because she loved him?

“Because we are destined to have no future. Staying by your side will only cause you more pain.” With that, Qianxue stood up and walked toward the door.

“Your absence is what causes me pain. So just tell me, no matter what stands in our way, I, Bai Yuxuan, will tear it down with my own hands!”

“It’s useless.” Qianxue said flatly.

“If you won’t tell me, fine. But with me here, do you really think you can leave this apartment today?” Bai Yuxuan then stood up, feeling deeply dejected. She hadn’t expected to have to resort to force to keep Qianxue after all. But as soon as she rose, a wave of dizziness hit her, and she collapsed onto the table.

“You… put sleeping pills in my breakfast?” Bai Yuxuan struggled against the powerful drowsiness washing over her, speaking with difficulty.

“Yes. When I saw your men at the airport entrance, I suspected things might come to this. So I bought some strong sedatives at a nearby pharmacy. They take effect quickly. You won’t be able to stop me now.”

But then, Bai Yuxuan did something Qianxue never expected. She bit down hard on her own arm. Blood immediately trickled down her wrist. Horrified, Qianxue rushed over to check, and only after confirming that she hadn’t hit an artery did he breathe a sigh of relief. In truth, Bai Yuxuan had intended to bite through her artery, she was willing to go that far to keep Qianxue. But the drug was too strong, and in her haze, she failed to bite the right place.

“Please… don’t go!” With the last shred of clarity that the pain brought her, Bai Yuxuan desperately reached her hand out toward Qianxue. His face grew increasingly blurry in her eyes. In the end, she couldn’t grasp him, and the overwhelming drowsiness swallowed her completely.
