Volume 2 + Chapter 48: The Calm Before The Storm

    “Mmm~”

In the early morning, a ray of sunlight fell across Ouyang Qianxue’s face, prompting him to yawn softly.

“So it’s cleared up already…” he murmured, gazing at the bright sunshine outside the window.

    “Huh?”

Just as he was about to get up, he realized his body was firmly pinned down. Looking down, he found that Wang Qian was tightly hugging his right arm, while his left arm was held by Ning Caiwei, and both of their legs were entangled around him.

“How did Caiwei end up here? Didn’t she go back to her own room last night?”

But when Qianxue’s gaze shifted lower, he discovered something even more shocking. Ning Caiwei was wearing only her underwear and bra, while Wang Qian’s state wasn’t much better, though still in pajamas, several buttons at her chest had come undone, revealing large swathes of pale, exposed skin.

“Hey, wake up, Wang Qian… I need to use the bathroom.”

Yet Wang Qian remained fast asleep, completely unresponsive.

“At this point… I guess I’ll have to quietly slip out while they’re not paying attention. But which side should I pull my arm free from first?”

Ouyang Qianxue carefully assessed Ning Caiwei on his left and Wang Qian behind him.

“Compared to towering mountains… it’s definitely safer to cross the gentler slope first.”

With that thought, he carefully twisted his body, slowly pulling his arm free from Wang Qian’s chest. But just then…

    “Qianxue, don’t go…”

Sensing him slipping away, Ning Caiwei suddenly pulled him back, dragging him straight into her embrace.

    “Ugh!”

All Qianxue saw was a field of white before his eyes. He hurriedly pushed her away with his left hand, only then realizing that in the chaos, his right hand had instinctively grabbed something soft.

    “…”

He swallowed hard and glanced to the right, his fingers were deeply pressed into that soft, fair flesh. Slowly lifting his gaze, he found that Wang Qian had already opened her eyes and was glaring at him fiercely.

“I, I think I can explain!” He quickly withdrew his hand.

    (I’m dead… I’m dead… I’m definitely dead…)

Seeing Wang Qian’s darkening expression, Ouyang Qianxue felt his heart tremble.

“Go on. Then I’ll decide how you’re going to die.”

“That’s because both of you were holding onto me, I couldn’t move at all!”

Hearing his explanation, Wang Qian’s expression eased slightly. Seeing that, Qianxue finally let out a small breath of relief.

“Then why did you pull your hand out from my side?”

“Well… when crossing a mountain path, you choose the gentler slope…”

    “Ah…!”

A scream rang out early in the morning.

“Mmm~ good morning, Qianxue. I slept so well last night… huh? Qianxue, what happened to your face?” Ning Caiwei asked as soon as she opened her eyes, noticing the bright red handprint on his cheek.

“Hmph! She deserved that. But you, why did you come into our room last night?” Wang Qian, now sitting beside him, questioned her sharply.

“The thunder was really loud last night… actually… I’ve been afraid of thunder since I was little.”

After saying that, Ning Caiwei quickly put on a pitiful expression and hugged Qianxue again.

“Stop pretending! The thunder’s long gone, let go of her!” Wang Qian pulled them apart once more.

    Ten minutes later…

“Qianxue, next time you want to pull your arm free, do it from my side. I wouldn’t act like that brute, hitting you without even asking what happened,” Ning Caiwei said, linking arms with him as the three walked toward school.

“The reason she got hit is something she understands perfectly well. And ‘next time’? You’re already planning a next time?” Wang Qian shot back from the side.

And so, amidst their noisy bickering, the three arrived at school.

“Qianxue, what happened to your face?”

As soon as Ouyang Qianxue entered the classroom, everyone immediately noticed the handprint on his cheek.

    “Uh…” He looked extremely awkward.

“Ah, I know! Qianxue must have a super violent boyfriend. He probably got mad outside and came home to take it out on her!” one girl speculated wildly.

“That’s way too much, how could anyone bear to hit someone as cute as Ouyang?”

“You guys are unbelievable! Someone got hit and you’re still making jokes?” another classmate, closer to Qianxue, scolded them.

“The one who hit me was… my father. I talked back to him yesterday,” Ouyang Qianxue said quietly.

“What? Even such an outstanding child like Ouyang gets hit, and so harshly too?”

“What an awful father, he’s practically a monster,” the surrounding students began criticizing his father one after another. Though Ouyang Qianxue used his father as a scapegoat, he felt no guilt, after all, that heartless man had abandoned him, his sister, and their mother years ago.

(She really hasn’t had it easy…)

Seated nearby, Bai Yuxuan thought to herself, unconsciously imagining countless scenes of him being cruelly beaten.

(What am I thinking? Why am I sympathizing with her?)

With a quiet sigh, she forced herself to refocus on the book in her hands.

Two days later, the final exams arrived as scheduled. The papers were brutally difficult, leaving many students utterly devastated.

But Ouyang Qianxue and Bai Yuxuan were different, they carefully and meticulously reviewed every question. Their shared goal was perfection, for in each of their hearts existed an opponent they refused to lose to.

“Ahh, that was so hard! If it weren’t for Qianxue’s tutoring, I’d definitely be done for this time,” Wang Qian said weakly as she exited the exam hall, like a kite with its string cut.

“Exactly. We really owe you this time, Qianxue. As thanks, I’ll treat you to dessert, there’s a new shop near the school gate I’ve heard is pretty good,” Ning Caiwei said, hugging him from behind.

    “Alright, let’s go.”

The three headed off to the dessert shop together.

“By the way, Wang Qian, you mentioned earlier that there’d be a school outing after exams?”

“That’s right, but it’s scheduled for a week later. For now, classes will still continue as usual, though teachers will just be going over the exam papers.”

    “I see.”

Meanwhile, in the student council office, after finishing the last document, Bai Yuxuan finally stood up.

“With this, both the family succession evaluation and the final exams are over. Next… it’s time to complete my final task for this semester.”

    She picked up a list.

“I’ve long had enough of this group of useless people. Since it’s the end of the term, let’s carry out a thorough purge.”

At that very moment, Ouyang Qianxue was still in the dessert shop, happily enjoying his cake, completely unaware that a confrontation between him and Bai Yuxuan was about to begin.
