Volume 2 Chapter 46
by Need_More_SleepVolume 2 + Chapter 46: A Rainy Night
“Y-You… Don’t you dare try anything, Qianxue! If you even think about taking advantage of me, I’ll definitely tell my aunt!”
“I wouldn’t do that!”
At this moment, Ouyang Qianxue and Wang Qian were lying back-to-back on the same bed. Both of them were flushed red, their bodies stiff with tension.
(Ugh… how did things end up like this?!) Ouyang Qianxue was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
To understand this, we have to go back five hours earlier.
“Qianxue, please, I’m begging you. You’re the only one I can rely on right now!” Ning Caiwei pleaded, her expression pitiful and desperate.
“But…”
“If my grades don’t improve, my mom will definitely hire a private tutor to drill me all summer. During the day I’ll have to practice dancing and singing, and at night I’ll still have to study. If I have to live like that all summer, I’ll go insane!”
As it turned out, right after school, Ning Caiwei had come straight to Ouyang Qianxue’s class, begging him again and again to come to her house and tutor her.
“Can’t we just go to the library?”
“I’m not a boarding student, I have to leave campus at a set time, so I can’t study long in the library. And if you’re worried about feeling awkward around my parents, don’t be. They’ve both gone out of town for work recently, so it’s just me at home these next couple of days.”
“What? Then I definitely can’t go.” Even though he was dressed as a girl, he was still a boy after all. A man and a woman alone together late at night, no matter how you looked at it, it was inappropriate.
“Qianxue~ you wouldn’t just leave me to suffer, would you?” Ning Caiwei’s expression became even more aggrieved.
“But going to your house really isn’t appropriate…”
“What’s inappropriate about it? We’re good friends. Or what, you’re afraid I might do something to you? That’s way too little trust in your friend!” As she spoke, her expression grew even more wronged, as if she would burst into tears the moment he refused.
“…Sigh, fine. But I have to tell Wang Qian first. If I don’t go back to the dorm, she’ll worry as my roommate.” Unable to withstand Ning Caiwei’s persistence, Ouyang Qianxue finally relented after much hesitation. After all, he wouldn’t be sharing a bed with her, and given that he was currently presenting as female, it should be fine… probably.
“I knew you were the best!” Ning Caiwei threw her arms around him tightly.
“Alright, let go already!”
“What? You’re going to Ning Caiwei’s house for a one-on-one late-night tutoring session? I see right through you now, Ouyang Qianxue!” When he told Wang Qian about it, she immediately shot him a look of utter disdain and began scolding him.
“I bet you’ve been coveting idol Ning Caiwei’s body for a long time. You’re exploiting the fact that she doesn’t know your real gender, letting her unknowingly invite a wolf into her home. Then after you succeed, you’ll take photos to blackmail her, turning a current idol into someone to satisfy your personal desires…”
“Wait! That’s all in your head! I’m just going to tutor her!”
“That’s still not okay! What if something happens while you two are alone and she finds out your real gender? Oh, I get it, you’ll say it’s to keep her from leaking the secret, then take her on the spot, snap photos afterward, and blackmail her into becoming your…”
“Stop! Why do you always drag things in that direction? What is wrong with your mind?!” Ouyang Qianxue couldn’t help but complain.
“In any case, this is a no. Late at night, a guy and a girl alone together, absolutely not.”
“But I already promised her…” Ouyang Qianxue looked at her with an obedient, almost pleading expression.
“If you ever agree to something like this so casually again, I’ll sew your mouth shut!” Wang Qian said, grabbing his cheeks and tugging them in frustration, as though scolding someone hopeless.
“S-Sorry…”
Ten minutes later, at the school gate,
“You’re here, Qian…” Ning Caiwei, who had been waiting at the entrance, immediately greeted him when she saw Ouyang Qianxue. But before she could finish, she noticed Wang Qian trailing behind him.
“You again?” Ning Caiwei snorted coldly at Wang Qian.
“Qianxue is my roommate. She promised to tutor me first. I’m being generous by allowing her to help you as well. Besides, the exams are in less than three days, and I’m under pressure too, so I’ll be coming along for tutoring.”
“Sorry… I really did promise Wang Qian earlier,” Ouyang Qianxue said, clasping his hands together. “Could you make an exception, for my sake?”
“No, no, it was me who forced Qianxue to help in the first place. I’m the one causing trouble for you,” Ning Caiwei said, immediately dropping her displeased attitude and smiling brightly.
“Then let’s go.” The three of them headed toward Ning Caiwei’s home together.
“Tch… what a nuisance,” Ning Caiwei muttered under her breath as she glanced at Wang Qian beside Qianxue.
“Qianxue, wear these.” After arriving, Ning Caiwei brought out a pair of high-end cotton slippers for him, while handing Wang Qian a pair of disposable hotel slippers. The stark contrast made Wang Qian visibly annoyed.
After changing shoes, Ning Caiwei served them tea and placed carefully prepared snacks in front of them.
“The tea’s fine, but these snacks are nowhere near as good as Qianxue’s,” Wang Qian remarked after tasting one.
“Oh? So Qianxue can make sweets too? You must let me try next time. Though it makes sense, someone as capable as Qianxue would naturally excel at something like that. Unlike certain freeloaders who eat other people’s food and still complain,” Ning Caiwei replied sweetly.
“Who are you calling a freeloader?!” Wang Qian slammed the table, anger flaring.
“What, wasn’t I clear enough just now?”
“You…!”
“Alright, exams are in three days, let’s focus on studying,” Ouyang Qianxue quickly intervened as the tension escalated. And so, the three of them began reviewing.
“Qianxue, is there a quicker way to solve this multiple-choice question? I’m practically treating it like a long problem,” Ning Caiwei asked after a while, placing her workbook in front of him.
“This problem asks for distance, and the acceleration differs across three time intervals. So you can draw a velocity–time graph, the area under the curve gives you the distance.” As he spoke, Ouyang Qianxue sketched a diagram.
“That’s true, it’s much simpler this way!” Ning Caiwei said, leaning closer toward him as she spoke.
“Hey! If you’ve got a question, just ask it, why are you leaning into her like that?!” Wang Qian reacted instantly, pulling her away.
“I just couldn’t see clearly from far away.”
“Then wear glasses!”
Under Wang Qian’s vigilant watch, Ning Caiwei didn’t get a single chance to get close to Ouyang Qianxue the entire evening. Just as she was starting to feel frustrated, thunder suddenly rumbled outside, followed by a torrential downpour.
“Oh no!” ×2
“That’s great!”
Hearing the rain, all three of them stood up at once.
“Hm?”
“A-Ah, I mean… that’s terrible,” Ning Caiwei quickly corrected herself.
“Caiwei, lend us an umbrella, Wang Qian, let’s head back!”
“Wait. With rain and wind like this, even with an umbrella you’d be soaked through. Why not stay here for the night and head back once the weather clears tomorrow?”
