Volume 5 Chapter 59
by Need_More_SleepVolume 5 + Chapter 59: The Benefactor of Pine Blossom Village
The colossal dragon descended from the heavens and crushed the senior White Night cultist beneath its claw.
It was as effortless as stepping on an ant. To a creature of such immense size, snuffing out a single life was utterly insignificant.
Xia Yi leapt down from the dragon’s back with Xiao Hong, making an entrance nothing short of astonishing.
Whether they were villagers of Pine Blossom Village or members of the White Night cult, all stared in stunned disbelief at Xia Yi and the dragon.
The deity they had prayed to had not appeared. Instead, what arrived were the ferocious dragons.
“Grandpa!!”
Xiao Hong rushed into the extinguished bonfire pit and dragged her grandfather out.
“Xiao Hong… is that… you…?”
Her grandfather opened his eyes, his breathing was faint and fragile.
“Grandpa, it’s me… wuu…”
Xiao Hong held her injured grandfather tightly and burst into tears.
“What happened…? Was it Lord Fox God… who came to save us…?” he asked weakly.
“No, Grandpa. It wasn’t Lord Fox God. It was the dragon clan.”
“The dragon clan…?!”
Her grandfather widened his eyes. Seeing the towering dragon and the silver-haired dragon girl in his blurred vision, he was momentarily at a loss for words.
Xia Yi’s gaze swept across the surroundings, the forcibly gathered foxfolk, the injured villagers, and the White Night cult members transporting stolen goods. She quickly grasped what was taking place.
“You filthy dragons! How dare you set foot upon Lord Fox God’s sacred land!” a White Night cultist roared. “We are punishing the followers of a false god, what does that have to do with you?”
“Your Highness, there is no need to lower yourself by speaking with such trash. It would only cheapen your status. Leave it to me,” said Karami, who had assumed his true dragon form.
“Mm.” Xia Yi nodded.
Karami merely raised his hand and swept it forward, sending a large swath of White Night cultists flying.
The cultists who had lorded over the villagers moments ago were utterly powerless before him.
“Retreat! Quick retreat! Scatter in different directions!!” One relatively clear-headed cultist recognized the overwhelming disparity between foxes and dragons and shouted urgently.
All the White Night cultists sprang into action, fleeing in different directions.
Karami revealed a look of utter disdain and remained where he stood, calmly watching them run without moving.
The cultists reached the edge of Pine Blossom Village and saw a glimmer of hope.
Just as they believed they might escape, massive shadows suddenly descended from the sky once more.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Members of the dragon delegation landed one after another at the village’s perimeter, sealing it off completely.
“Don’t, don’t kill me…!!”
Shrieks rang out as White Night cultists were slain one by one at the dragons’ hands.
A few who had not even reached the edge of the village collapsed mentally.
With so many dragons appearing at once, there was no longer any possibility of escape.
“What’s wrong?” Xia Yi mocked. “Why isn’t the Azure Fox God you worship coming to protect you at a time like this?”
“Damn you!!”
One cultist, driven into desperation, drank holy water to suppress his terror. In a frenzy, he dashed into the village square, seized Xiao Hong at lightning speed, and pressed a dagger to her throat.
“All dragons, stop right there!! If any of you move, I’ll kill this fox!”
The deranged cultist threatened the dragons, drawing a thin line of blood across Xiao Hong’s neck.
“Xiao Hong…!!”
Her grandfather stretched out his hand, trying to crawl toward her, only to be kicked aside by the madman.
“Didn’t you hear me? No one moves! Otherwise, I’ll slice this child’s head clean off!”
The cultist’s face twisted viciously. Perhaps emboldened by the holy water, he dared to glare at Xia Yi.
He had seen Xia Yi with Xiao Hong earlier and assumed that threatening the girl’s life would restrain the dragons.
“Heh.”
Xia Yi looked as though she were watching a clownish performance and could not help but chuckle.
“Are you amusing me? Using the life of a fox to threaten dragons?”
“Y-you… stop talking nonsense! If you don’t want her dead, then obey!”
“What a clumsy act.”
Xia Yi slowly raised her hand.
The motion agitated the deranged cultist. He roared, “Stop! I said stop! Didn’t you hear me?!”
Xia Yi snapped her fingers.
The cultist did not understand what it meant. His heart pounded wildly. Acting on impulse, he raised the dagger to plunge it into Xiao Hong’s skull.
Whoosh!
An ice sword shot from his blind spot, striking the dagger from his hand.
His eyes flew wide open. Realizing he had lost the weapon, he lunged forward to retrieve it.
At that moment, nearby villagers sprang into action and knocked him to the ground.
“What are you doing? What do you think you’re doing? I am a believer of the true Lord Fox God! You heretics who worship a false god, how dare you touch me…”
The villagers seized stones and hurled them at him. Within moments, he was beaten to death by their fury.
The remaining White Night cultists were likewise subdued by the enraged villagers.
…
…
Xiao Hong’s grandfather lay on the ground receiving treatment and was, for the time being, out of mortal danger.
The revived village chief of Pine Blossom Village bowed deeply to Xia Yi in gratitude.
“Thank you beyond words. I never imagined that one day we would be saved by the dragon clan…”
His emotions were complex. Persecuted by their own kin, yet rescued by dragons, such irony was difficult to digest.
Still, his gratitude toward Xia Yi was sincere.
“We had no intention of saving you. We merely acted for our own purposes and happened to achieve this result along the way,” Xia Yi replied plainly.
“No matter the reason, you are the benefactor of Pine Blossom Village. If there is anything we can do for you from this day forward, please speak, we will do our utmost.”
“My request is simple. Do not spread word of our appearance here.”
“Benefactor, please rest assured. I will see to it personally.”
Afterward, the village chief led the others to deal with the corpses scattered throughout Pine Blossom Village.
Of the White Night cultists, Xia Yi had intentionally spared two.
“Your Highness, I tried to question them about information regarding the White Night cult, but they refused to say anything,” Elly reported. “No matter what, they insist they will not reveal the location of any nearby strongholds.”
“They refuse to speak?”
Xia Yi had intended to use these two cultists to learn the location of a White Night cult base, so she could ‘borrow’ some supplies.
If they would not disclose it, that would indeed be troublesome.
The young princess lowered her head and pondered for a moment. Gradually, a brilliant idea formed in her mind.
“I’ve got it. I know exactly how to make them willingly reveal every piece of information.”
Thanks for the chapter
