by Salted FishThe Mad Emperor and His Fairy in the Painting (End)
“Does Xing’er want to hear a story?” Xie Chenyuan looked up at the ceiling and spoke heavily.
Xu Xinghe naturally nodded. She wanted to understand Xie Chenyuan more deeply, not just learn everything about him through the system.
“My mother didn’t marry my father willingly. Father… imprisoned mother.” Xie Chenyuan’s tone was somewhat heavy.
“Mother hated him because she had someone she loved, but Father separated them by force.”
“But one day, Mother suddenly changed. She seemed to start falling in love with Father. She would cook for him and care for him. I thought I could finally be a happy child.”
Xie Chenyuan’s voice choked up a little here. This was a vulnerable side of him he had never shown before.
Xu Xinghe wrapped her arms around his waist and gently patted his back, soothing his emotions.
“Then, Father fell in love with someone else. Mother went mad from that day on. I hated Father for destroying everything, but I there was nothing I could do.”
“From that day on, Father never came to see Mother again. Mother spent her days studying foods to cook for me. I thought that was fine.”
“Maybe without Father, Mother and I could have just lived peacefully like that.”
“Until later, my health started getting worse and worse. Father finally came to see Mother. That day, Mother was very happy. She put on her most beautiful dress to meet Father.” Xie Chenyuan recalled, his body unable to stop trembling with cold.
“It turned out that Mother had been poisoning me every day just to get Father to come see her.”
Xu Xinghe could barely continue listening. She had never imagined that a mother would poison her own biological child.
She couldn’t bear to think about how Xie Chenyuan had grown up and how he had become a strong emperor.
Xie Chenyuan was still speaking. Xu Xinghe had to force herself to keep listening.
“Father flew into a rage and wanted to divorce Mother. That night, Mother took me and jumped into the river.”
“Mother died, and I was rescued.”
“Xing’er, I watched with my own eyes as Mother struggled in the water. She was in so much pain. She pushed me down, trying to climb out of the water, but she died before she could get out.”
The pain in Xie Chenyuan’s eyes nearly overflowed. Did he hate his mother? Actually, he didn’t.
It was only when he grew up that Xie Chenyuan understood. He hated himself and his own helplessness in that moment. Weakness was the original sin.
After all the hatred, the truth was that he simply hated that they didn’t love him.
Xu Xinghe took a deep breath. She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, her voice would come out in tears and then Ah Yuan would only worry more.
“Ah Yuan, don’t be afraid. Your father was scum. And though your mother was a victim, she took her resentment out on you. That just proves she and your father are the same kind of people.”
“Neither of them deserves sympathy. My heart only feels pain for you, Ah Yuan. How helpless Little Ah Yuan must have been and how painful the process of growing up must have been,” Xu Xinghe’s eyes were full of tenderness as she wrapped her arms around Xie Chenyuan’s waist and spoke softly.
Xie Chenyuan’s shoulders heaved. He suddenly turned his back to her.
Xu Xinghe knew that he was crying and that he had his pride. She quietly stayed by his side.
Only when Xie Chenyuan’s emotions calm down did he turn back and tightly pull Xu Xinghe into his arms, like grasping the only straw after falling into a lake.
Then Xie Chenyuan noticed that Xing’er’s body was trembling slightly. He quickly spoke to comfort her. “Xing’er, don’t cry. I never suffered at all.”
Seeing her cry hurt him more than cutting out his own heart.
“Silly Ah Yuan. From now on, there will be no more suffering, only sweetness and me.” Xu Xinghe lifted her head and smiled with tears hanging from the corners of her eyes. The tip of her nose was red from crying, looking so pitiful.
Xie Chenyuan kissed her eyes obsessively, licking away the tears at the corners. This was proof that Xing’er loved him.
So sweet.
In my world, you are the most dazzling existence, the treasure I refuse to let go of — Xie Chenyuan
