Volume 4 Chapter 135
by Need_More_SleepVolume 4 + Chapter 135: Why Did It Turn Around Like This?
The Beastman Prince shattered the ice encasing his arm, breaking free of the restraint. He seized his weapon and swung his warhammer straight at Xia Yi’s small head.
“Tsk, what a pain.”
Xia Yi intended to grab the elven princess’s hand and pull her along to evade the Beastman Prince’s attack.
However, the moment that thought surfaced, her wrist was seized by the girl behind her.
In the blink of an eye, Xia Yi realized she had been lifted into the air—held securely in Eve’s arms.
She had clearly been planning to save someone, yet instead she ended up being princess-carried herself??
“Huh?” Xia Yi froze in disbelief.
Boom!
Immediately afterward, the spot where Xia Yi had been standing was smashed into a crater by the Beastman Prince’s warhammer, sending tremors through the ground.
Eve, astonishingly, held Xia Yi in her arms, deftly dodging the Beastman Prince’s attack with nimble reflexes before landing smoothly on the ground.
“You…”
Xia Yi widened her eyes, staring at Eve’s face, words caught in her throat.
She could keenly sense that this elven princess was anything but simple—not merely a beautiful figurehead.
Leaping into the air to dodge the Beastman Prince’s attack might look impressive, but in reality it was extremely dangerous. Being unable to maneuver midair made one a perfect target.
If the Beastman Prince had chosen to pursue, one could easily have been smashed into pulp.
Yet Eve had made this choice, clearly having seen through the Beastman Prince—judging that he would not give chase, or perhaps… that even if he did, he would not be able to hurt her.
Only someone whose strength surpassed the Beastman Prince’s would dare make such a judgment.
“You—what are you two doing?!”
The fox princess Yue Liu, upon witnessing this scene, instantly turned into an anxious little fox.
Xia Yi was staring intently at Eve, analyzing her strength—but the little fox knew nothing of that.
From her perspective, it looked exactly like her sworn rival had been captivated by a heroic rescue.
Yue Liu felt an indescribable discomfort in her heart, as though something important had been stolen from her—after all, Xia Yi had never shown such an expression in front of her before.
The little fox was so anxious she was nearly spinning in circles.
“Sakura Moon!!”
She summoned Sakura Moon and unleashed her sword-drawing technique.
Slash!
In an instant, sword light flashed, carving countless fissures in the ground around the Beastman Prince.
“No more chaos, Beastman Prince! If you dare act recklessly again, that sword aura just now will all be aimed straight at your head!!”
The little fox pointed her sword at the Beastman Prince, venting all her anger onto this unfortunate fellow.
“This is the final warning. You yourself just declared that the Beastmen race has withdrawn from the Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance—everyone here heard it loud and clear. If you continue to cause trouble, it can be regarded as an outright provocation against the Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance!”
“Fox clan—are you going to stop us too?!”
The Beastman Prince nearly ground his teeth to dust.
“Why?! Why is the whole world against us?! What did our Beastmen race ever do wrong?!”
No one answered the Beastman Prince’s anguished question.
The Beastmen race truly had done nothing wrong.
Their nation had been invaded by the vampires, their honor trampled by the Vampire Ancestor. Like a bereaved dog, they raged helplessly, begging others for aid—yet received no response.
Precisely because the other nations did not wish to share the Beastmens’ fate—losing both dignity and country—they hoped the Beastmen race could still provide some remaining value, holding the vampires back a little longer to create an opportunity for the Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance to defeat the Vampire Ancestor.
It was cruel—but this was reality.
Eve set Xia Yi down from her arms and once again walked up to the Beastman Prince. “Beastman Prince, I will give your Beastmen race one more chance.”
“A chance? What are you talking about?”
“Apologize for your violent actions just now—especially for your words and killing intent toward Xia Yi. That was utterly unacceptable,” Eve said coldly.
“Me?”
Xia Yi was a little surprised.
Everyone felt that something about the situation had started to feel… off.
Clearly, it had been Xia Yi who protected Eve at the beginning—so how had the roles reversed, making it seem as though Xia Yi was the one being wronged, with Eve stepping forward to defend her?
“Why should I apologize?!” The Beastman Prince thought he must have misheard.
“I can understand that losing your nation caused you to lose your reason,” Eve said. “If you calm down now and apologize for your impulsive actions, we can consider accepting you back into the Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance and providing a certain level of aid—such as food, weapons, supplies, and so on.”
Eve narrowed her eyes. “But if you refuse to apologize for your recklessness, then we will immediately expel the Beastmen race and reject any further requests for communication.”
The Beastman Prince stood stunned.
This was nothing less than a public humiliation of the Beastmen race before everyone present.
If he refused, the Beastmen race would truly be finished.
If he swallowed his pride here, at least they could obtain some assistance and allow the Beastmen army to hold on a bit longer.
He did not want to accept this—but before setting out, he had promised his father to return with hope.
“I’m sorry… I apologize for my actions…” the Beastman Prince forced the words out of his throat with great difficulty. “Please… Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance… forgive me…”
“And Xia Yi,” the elven princess reminded him.
The Beastman Prince almost spat blood, yet he still turned to face Xia Yi and lowered his head. “Silver Dragon Princess, I sincerely apologize. My earlier impulsiveness caused you great distress…”
“Oh.”
Xia Yi replied perfunctorily.
“Return to your seat, Beastman Prince. Do not disrupt the normal proceedings of the meeting any further,” Eve said.
“…”
The Beastman Prince said nothing and walked away.
Without question, in everyone’s eyes, the Beastman Prince had become a complete clown.
Had he remained rational and communicated calmly from the beginning, even if the outcome would not have changed, he could at least have preserved some dignity.
Now, even that dignity is gone.
As for the elven princess Eve—her attitude and presence this time had utterly exceeded everyone’s expectations. It was completely different from the Elven King’s usual style, and her stance toward the dragon race had even grown subtly ambiguous.
“You weren’t hurt just now, were you?” Eve asked Xia Yi.
“Well… um…”
Xia Yi felt a little awkward.
It felt as though her actions had completely put the cart before the horse.
Still, out of courtesy, she decided to express her thanks.
“Thank you, Princess Eve.”
A smile bloomed on Eve’s beautiful face. “Just call me Eve.”
“But…”
“Call me Eve,” Eve insisted once more.
“All right. Thank you, Eve.”
Xia Yi ultimately complied with Eve’s wishes.
Eve seemed about to say something more to Xia Yi, but at that moment, the pink-haired little fox suddenly squeezed herself between the two of them, forcibly interrupting their conversation.
“Alright! Since the farce is finally over, let’s not drag this out any longer—let’s continue with the meeting!!”
